 716 Dungeon Master's Diary #51: Roger and Out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1730

The Roleplay Rescue Dungeon Master’s Diary features me, a microphone, and whatever gaming-related nonsense flows from my mind. This is recorded in short snippets throughout the week and then roughly edited together to form a diary of one man’s journey in gaming, shared week-by-week. It’s raw, glaringly personal, and not everyone’s cup of tea. This is the end... well, the last episode of the DM Diary... the end of this rambling mess.  715 On Gamemastering: Choose Your Players! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2056

Brian Jamison’s “Gamemastering”, self-published in 2011, has had a major impact on me over the years. Initially, the book intrigued me and I tried to take the advice to heart. Doing so, I quickly ran into some genuine resistance from fellow gamers. This past week or so, I began to re-read it and re-visit it. It seems I am still niggled by the style and tone but I am also trying to mine the book for useful methodology. It’s really the first and only book on methodology that I have found useful thus far.  714.9 Dungeon Master's Diary #50 (Part 3): Staggering Onward | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2119

Somehow, we've made it to 50 episodes of this tripe, so that is some kind of an achievement. This week I have split it in to three halves: this is Part 3 which features chatter about manifestos, wanderings about why I can't game in the evenings, and some more ideas about RuneQuest. Special thanks to Barney D and Jason C for their contributions to this episode. Game on!  713 Satanic Panic with Peter Laws | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3952

Peter Laws is an ordained minister with a fascination for the macabre, an author, journalist, film critic, public speaker, and regular writer for Fortean Times. He is the creator of the Matt Hunter novel series and the host of the Creepy Cove Community Church podcast - an immersive, horror-themed ‘church service’, broadcast from the mysterious fishing town of Creepy Cove. Besides from horror, Peter is said to hail from somewhere down south and enjoys retro TV and Krispy Kreme donuts.  This episode crosses a divide which I have always felt is a false one: the division between fiction and reality, between movies and the creativity of imaginative games. Hear Peter and I discuss horror movies, the development of Creepy Cove, Dungeons & Dragons, Jack Chick, reasons why people collect horrific memorabilia, and what it means to enjoy fiction.  Fair warning: We do touch on some dark places and don’t shy away from some difficult questions.  Big thanks to Peter Laws for willingly crossing the podosphere and doing the interview. Details for that event below. The Roleplay Rescue Dungeon Master’s Diary features me, a microphone, and whatever gaming-related nonsense flows from my mind. This is recorded in short snippets throughout the week and then roughly edited together to form a diary of one man’s journey in gaming, shared week-by-week.  Quiet Voices (Bonus) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2536

An episode sharing call-ins responding to my Addendum episode from some weeks ago. Thanks to Spencer, Lieren, Rob, Dave, Judd, Tim, and John.  Music by John from Tale of the Manticore.

711 Not Letting Work Kill My Hobby | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1813

Rather ironically, I am experiencing some of the work-induced, invasive, and destructive feelings that inspired the podcast in the first place. In short, I feel like work is killing my hobby. This episode arises from the challenges that I’ve been facing in my hobby, to which Judd refers in his opening call-in. I talk about what’s been happening and what I am doing to tackle these challenges. After that, I share few more call-ins from Jason and The Lonely Adventurer, responding to both. There's also some cool new music from John (Tale of the Manticore). Thanks to all the callers and to John - without you guys, I don't know that I'd still be able to do this. Game on!  710 Dungeon Master's Diary #48: School Kills Your Hobby | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1519

Britain’s response to the global Covid-19 pandemic is loosening and I’ve been asked to return to work. Because of this, I talk a fair bit about my reaction to this turn of events this week and so - fair warning - it’s not all about the gaming. Thanks for listening.  709 What Is It With D&D Fantasy? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2085

This one is a pot pourri of stuff: I'm asking why I keep returning to the specific D&D fantasy thing and suggest a few thoughts around the issue. From there, it's time to catch up on the call-ins from listeners and give some replies. Like I said, it's a bit of a mish-mash. Make of it what thou wilt. Game on!  708.5: Dungeon Master's Diary #47 (Part 2) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1523

The DM's Diary episodes feature me, a microphone, and whatever gaming-related nonsense flows from my mind. It's recorded in short(ish) snippets  throughout the week and then roughly edited together to form a journal of one man’s experience in gaming, shared on a bi-weekly basis. It’s raw, glaringly personal, and not everyone’s cup of tea. Included in roughly chronological order of receipt are call-ins from community members commenting on past episodes, most of which need little response but all of which are gratefully shared. There was so much content and so many lovely call-ins that I have split the episode into two parts. The first part was released yesterday. Thanks to Frank T for the clip. Game on!  Bonus: Talking Play-by-Post With Evil Jeff | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2999

Responding to questions about Play-by-Post Roleplaying Games, I decided to hop on Zoom and have a chat with my friend, Evil Jeff (Minions & Musings) whom I know is a long-time player in such games. We had a positive chat in which I asked some pretty basic questions and got some helpful answers. Because other out there might find this approach to gaming both mystifying but also potentially perfect for them, I thought I would share the conversation as a bonus episode. Hope you find it to be as useful as I did. Thanks to Evil Jeff for doing it. Game on!
