The Liverpool v Manchester United rivalry with a twist | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:19

It’s been a summer of massive change for Liverpool FC Women... with a new name, a new manager, new staff and new players. And in our latest podcast we reflect on what has been a very busy pre-season and look ahead to the Reds’ opening game of the campaign at home to a newly formed Manchester United Women side that contains a whole host of familiar faces. Neil Redfearn is the new man at the helm at Liverpool and we caught up with the ex-Leeds manager to reflect on a rollercoaster first two months in charge and to find out his short and long-term aims for the 2013 and 2014 Women’s Super League champions. We also get his thoughts on the Continental Tyres League Cup clash with United, who are not only managed by former Liverpool defender and England legend Casey Stoner, but also feature a number of players who, until last season, plied their trade on the red half of Merseyside, including new captain Alex Greenwood. We also talk about the memorable moments Redfearn enjoyed against Liverpool during his playing career and discuss the top-class players he produced while working at Leeds, latterly under controversial owner Massimo Cellino.  Allez Les Rouges: Debating the defence, Roberto Firmino and what will be key to Liverpool winning the title | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:58

Peter Hooton is back with his excellent Allez Les Rouges podcast – and he’s invited a special guest along for the latest instalment. Alongside regulars Kieth Culvin, John Nicolson and Ste Monaghan is Accrington Stanley manager – and big Red – John Coleman. The lads were impressed with the way Liverpool started the season as West Ham United were put to the sword at Anfield – in particular debutant Naby Keita and the attacking options that were able to come off the bench. That said they were less heartened with the cover at the back and, while they believe Alisson could go on to become one of the club’s best ever goalkeepers, they do question whether Jurgen Klopp should have brought in another defender before the transfer window closed, and what his best centre-back partnership is. Reds boss Klopp is certainly not short of quality in midfield after the summer arrivals of Keita and Fabinho but James Milner proved on Sunday why he remains such a vital performer – and Coleman gives a fascinating insight into what the former England man is like up close. Coleman – who performed miracles to get Stanley promoted to League One last season – then offers his ‘controversial’ opinion on Roberto Firmino before talks turn to whether Klopp must deliver in what is his third full season in charge at Anfield. They key to winning the title is then discussed – including factors both on and off the field – before another must-listen podcast rounds off with the news surrounding Mo Salah this week. Enjoy.  What next for starlets who impressed in pre-season and why Liverpool is the club to go to for young players | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:21:51

It’s a big weekend for Liverpool FC’s academy with their U18s and U23s sides playing their first home matches of what is set to be another exciting season at Kirby. Neil Critchley’s U23s welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield on Friday (7pm) before the U18s, now managed by the highly regarded Barry Lewtas after Steven Gerrard’s departure to Rangers, take on rivals Manchester United at the academy on Saturday (11am). We preview both matches – and talk much more besides – in our first Academy Show podcast of the new campaign. Our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce guests on the show after spending the afternoon in the company of Critchley and Lewtas. The rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold to integral first-team squad member was the highlight of a brilliant season for the academy last time out. And there is real hope that there are more players ready to follow in Trent’s footsteps. The likes of Curtis Jones, Rafa Camacho and Nat Phillips certainly staked a claim with their performances in pre-season and James explains what could happen next for the trio and why goalkeeper Kamil Grabara has a real opportunity on his hands. James also discusses the futures of Sheyi Ojo and Pedro Chirivella before talk turns to the U18s and their summer signing Bobby Duncan, the highly rated young English forward who is the cousin of Reds legend Gerrard. That in turn leads to a debate about why Liverpool is now seen as the club to go to for talented young players before James rounds off the podcast by talking about the returning Pep Lijnders. Enjoy.  Keita comparisons, Fekir ‘saga’, and why Jose Mourinho and Manchester City have a problem with Liverpool | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:14

Liverpool and football are back – and so are our Weekend Verdict podcasts. And our first guest of the new season is the Merseyside Football Reporter for The Telegraph, Chris Bascombe. Chris was at Anfield on Sunday to watch the Reds make an early statement of intent by sweeping aside West Ham United 4-0. The impressive victory served only to heighten the expectation surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s side. But Chris argues the pressure is largely external and, if Liverpool are unable to overhaul Manchester City in the coming months, very little will change at Anfield – and with good reason. Naby Keita was one of the stars of the win over West Ham and we discuss whether the comparisons with N’golo Kante and Andres Iniesta stand up to scrutiny – and whether Nabil Fekir will be ‘missed’ after all. Oh, and why the Fekir ‘saga’ was never a saga in the first place. Squad depth, Daniel Sturridge and the goalkeeping department all get a mention with Chris believing a way to rebuild Loris Karius’ confidence could come down a traditional route. Talk then turns to transfers and the window, which then leads to a discussion about why Jose Mourinho has a bee in his bonnet about Klopp and Liverpool, and why Manchester United’s rivals Manchester City also have a problem with the team tipped to push them closest in the title race. Chris also makes a bold prediction about how many goals and points the Reds will score and accumulate this season. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Blood Red: Liverpool can get carried away about Naby Keita - and James Milner's unexpected influence | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:35

The Premier League is back for another season - and Liverpool have hit the ground running. The Reds smashed West Ham United at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah opening the scoring, two goals from Sadio Mane and a strike from Daniel Sturridge doing the business for Jurgen Klopp's side. Liverpool top the league on week one and the Blood Red podcast is overflowing with positivity, with Joe Rimmer being joined by Kristian Walsh and James Pearce to discuss the game. The lads can't help but get carried away by Naby Keita, with James warning against over hyping the Guinean midfielder in one breath and comparing him to Steven Gerrard in another. Kristian pays tribute to James Milner and his "on board navigation system" and the lads discuss Joe Gomez and Liverpool's options at centre-back. There's also time for Kristian to school James in Expected Goals and Joe to crack another awful joke. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Post-Game: Liverpool thrash West Ham to make perfect Premier League start | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:25:50

Well, as starts go, that was just about perfect. The 4-0 win over West Ham was Liverpool’s biggest opening day victory at Anfield since 1932 – so little wonder then that the mood is buoyant on our first Post-Game podcast of the new Premier League season. The podcast kicks off with the thoughts of five Reds supporters who phoned into the ECHO after the match. Then you’ll hear from our Liverpool FC correspondent – both home and away – James Pearce. And the pod ends with audio from Jurgen Klopp’s press conference, in which the Reds boss delivers his verdict on the performance, Naby Keita’s eye-catching debut, the expectations surrounding his side, Dejan Lovren’s injury, and the players who had to settle for a place on what must go down as one of the strongest Liverpool benches in years. Enjoy – and if you are a Reds fan who would like to contribute to future Post-Game podcasts, then email paul.wheelock@reachplc.com for further details.  The inside story on Liverpool's Premier League opener against West Ham United | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:26:45

The wait is nearly over – Liverpool kick-off their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham United on Sunday. And we’ve got a full preview of the Anfield clash in our latest podcast. The pod features our very own Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce, who has been with the Reds every step of the way this summer, in England, America, France and Ireland. James gives us the latest from inside the buzzing Liverpool camp, explains the fine line that Jurgen Klopp is trying to tread, and how he expects the Reds to line-up on Sunday. The pod also features an interview with the West Ham writer for the Football.London website, Sam Inkersole, who explains how the ugly scenes that marred the Hammers’ 3-0 home loss to Burnley in March was the catalyst for a summer of change that saw Manuel Pellegrini replace David Moyes in the hotseat and see nearly £100m splashed on new signings. Sam also talks former £35m Reds forward Andy Carroll and why a confident West Ham will fancy their chances on Sunday. The podcast also features audio from Klopp’s press conference on Friday – including his brilliant three-minute response to the question of whether his Liverpool side can lift the club’s first league title since 1990. He references Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago and, like the rest of the pod, it’s well worth a listen. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Poetry in Motion: What Liverpool's signings can bring and the Premier League predicted | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:48:51

Fresh from hosting the Liverpool ECHO’s successful first live Blood Red Q&A, Neil Fitzmaurice is back with a very special edition of his Poetry in Motion podcast. Joined by regular sidekicks Joe Rimmer and Dan Kay, the triumvirate kick-off another must-listen pod by assessing the four senior signings the Reds have made this summer. Joe is most excited by Naby Keita and argues one of the perceived flaws in the midfielder’s game could actually be a positive for Liverpool. Dan believes Alisson Becker will once and for all solve the club’s long-standing goalkeeping problem while Fitzy reckons Xherdan Shaqiri could prove to be one of the one of the signings of the season. But what of Fabinho? And are the lads a little concerned by the Brazilian’s pre-season showings? Talk then turns to the Daniel Sturridge revival and why Joe is ready to get his heart broken all over the again. The rest of the podcast is dedicated to predictions and, with Fitzy promising to do a Brendan Rogers-style envelope reveal at the end of the Premier League campaign, the trio give their verdict on who will be champions, who will be relegated, who will be top scorer, who will be the player of the year, who will be the surprise package, and who will be the first manager to go. We think you’ll like the answers to the first and last of those categories in particular.  It’s a cracking listen. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Why Liverpool are now acting like a big club – and the key to toppling Manchester City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:47

The phoney war is over, the real stuff starts on Sunday, but before then there’s the little matter of transfer deadline day to get through. So to talk the last day of the window, and look back on pre-season and look ahead to the new campaign, Liverpool season-ticket holders Sean Bradbury, Dan Kay and Paul Philbin join host Paul Wheelock for our latest View from the Kop podcast. The Reds have impressed both on and off the pitch during the summer in a manner that Sean, Dan and Paul Philbin believe befits a big club. Indeed, apart from the pursuit of a certain Lyon midfielder, the trio struggle to think of any major dramas since the Champions League final. Dan is a little concerned, though, that a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. However, the mood is overwhelmingly positive, with all three praising the 17-year-old Scouser who has played his way into Klopp’s plans, and the less heralded new signing who Paul reckons could have an impact similar to Yossi Benayoun. Sean, Dan and Paul are relaxed about transfer deadline day and reckon that whatever happens between now and 5pm on Thursday, Liverpool will have done the best business of any of the top six. So will that lead to a first league title since 1990? Dan is very confident and Paul believes, although Sean wonders whether Manchester City will prove just too strong again. That said they all three agree that pre-season has proved the Reds have a key factor in their favour when it comes to toppling Pep Guardiola’s men.  The real story of Liverpool chant Allez Allez Allez – and why the club are now buying into Reds fan culture | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:51:46

The story of Liverpool’s run to last season’s Champions League final is well told – but less so is the tale of the man whose song soundtracked the memorable march to Kiev. Jamie Webster’s brilliant version of Allez Allez Allez has taken the big Red and fellow matchgoer Dan Nicolson on a remarkable ride that is showing no signs of slowing down yet. From the Ukraine, to the United States, and then to Dublin, Jamie and Dan have experienced a rollercoaster few months they will never forgot. And now back in Liverpool ahead of the new season, they joined hosts Paul Wheelock and Paul Philbin for a special podcast. The duo recall the magical scenes in Shevchenko Park and what it was like to be asked to accompany Liverpool on their pre-season tour of America and Ireland – including the amazing moment Jurgen Klopp walked in on Jamie while he was performing THAT song. Allez Allez Allez has taken on a life of its own and Jamie and Dan, whose BOSS night event was where the song truly came to prominence, explain its origin and the brilliant reason why and how it ended up in the charts. They also pay credit to the club for recognising and buying into the thriving fan culture that has been created by young Liverpool supporters in the city – and why that can only help Klopp’s side on the pitch. It’s a great Scouse success story of collective identity that is being replicated the world over. Enjoy.  For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

It's a special edition of the Blood Red podcast as Ian Doyle is joined by Kristian Walsh, Paul Gorst and Joe Rimmer to answer your questions. The lads talk about which of Liverpool's summer signings will take the Premier League by storm, as well as who might struggle this season. Paul believes thank Alisson will solve a long-standing problem for the Reds, while Joe reckons Keita is going to shock the league. But Kristian isn't so sure on Fabinho.  Then there's plenty of discussion about how this Liverpool squad compares to 2008/09 and 2000/01, with the panel convinced that the current team can mount a serious title challenge. Later Kristian talks balls and pot, Paul Gorst is interrupted on a regular basis and Doyle (not Ian) critiques a number of names. Oh, and Joe talks about Emile Heskey. Again.
