We continued with our Freedom day build up and celebrated the legacy of the late Khaya Majola, a former cricketer and administrator. Hoosain Ayob was our guest. Johnny Jacobs - President of St Augustine Cricket club helped us tell the story of the late South African born - former England cricketer Basil D’Oliveira.
Part Three of our Freedom day build-up, We spoke to a devout boxing fan Joy Greyvenstein who has been honoured by Boxing SA for her passion for the sport. The boxing community call her MamCirha and she will tells us what attracted her to boxing. We also highlighted the contribution made by legendary Boxing Administrator Mr Les Muller. Muller's protégé Mava Malla and boxing trainer Loyiso Mtya paid tribute.
We spoke to Blanche Moila (Queen of the Road) who made history in 1984 when she became the first black female athlete to be awarded Springbok Colours. SAFA President Danny Jordaan talked to us about SA being re-admitted back into international football. We also spoke to the great Vusi "Computer" Lamola about the SA Black eleven team that beat Argentina at Rand Stadium in 1976.
We spoke to Former SA Sports Minister Ngconde Balfour about SA Sport pre and post 1994 elections, unification talks, transformation and quota systems as part of our freedom day build up. Also joining the conversation was Mayihlome Tshwete to reflect on the role his father Steve Tshwete played in sport. The struggle icon is SA’s first sports minister in a democratic state.
