 83. Purpose without Pressure - Navigating Challenging Times | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:21:47

We stumbled and fumbled as we recorded this podcast, not knowing what to say, given everything that is happening with the Coronavirus. In the end, we decided to chat about living under lockdown, the anxiety that comes with that and how creativity can play a role in providing some comfort during this time. I talk about the projects that are keeping my mind off things and Richie shares his thoughts on having a purpose each day. We also ponder the positives that could come out of a situation like this including more online innovation for artists and small businesses. We hope that the podcast provides a little bit of relief in your week. Sending you our love. When artist, Ivy Newport, shared her latest abstract creation on Instagram, I knew I had to have her on the podcast! I’ve been following Ivy’s work for a long time and have watched her online community grow and grow. With thousands of students and a class platform with over 80 classes, it’s fair to say I had some questions! Things like: How do you approach making classes? What do you do to avoid burnout? Do you have any advice for artists that are just getting started? Plus we also talk about studio spaces, working with your husband and our mutual love of colour palettes. These are just a few of the colour conundrums we are chatting about this week. And wow, I have to say it brings up some interesting lines of thought. I didn’t realise I had such a thing against the colour wheel but, apparently I do! I also question if my paintings are getting too matchy matchy? Plus there’s a FREE video for you!  79. Tips for Starting a New Painting | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:28:59

This week I am chatting about how I get started with a painting. It’s a fitting topic as I’ve just started a commission piece. The first commission in a long time. My commission process in the early days was … well, let’s just say that it was less than ideal! So needless to say. I was feeling a bit nervous about diving back into custom work. But then I remembered all that I have learned. All the mistakes, sleepless nights, revelations, conversations. Every part of the journey that has brought me to where I am now. I am not the same artist that I was years ago and neither are you! We are always evolving. So with new confidence, today I am sharing the steps I now take when I start a new painting or body of work. Richie and I also talk about gathering inspiration from a variety of sources. Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to talk about how much I enjoyed the Taylor Swift, Miss Americana documentary!  77. Dealing with Exhaustion and Burnout | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:53

Is it a funk, is it exhaustion, is it burnout? What’s happening here? Why am I still in bed at lunchtime? Just a few of the things that have been going through my head this past week. I had another podcast episode planned for today but it didn’t feel right. So instead, Richie and I are chatting about burnout and what it is is like when your body kicks in and tells you that you NEED to slow down. My hope in sharing this episode is that it encourages others to take that day off, switch off the phone, ask for help and most importantly REST!
