 Giants Potpourri - 09/22/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1861

In my house, we have a twice-weekly tradition that my husband calls "clean out the fridge night." You can probably imagine what that entails--we feast on leftovers from the last few days because I hate wasting food, and I refuse to make anything new until the old stuff has been consumed. Anyway, for today's podcast, I decided to deploy a similar concept. You'll get a little serving of everything--stats, roster transactions and thoughts, an audio clip from Tuesday's media session with the coaching staff, and more.  So take a peek inside. I promise there's nothing among the contents of this particular podcast you'll find to be spoiled. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Eli Manning on What the Giants Miss now that Saquon Barkley is Out for the Season -09/21/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1623

"Monday, Monday (bah-da bah-da-da-da) "So good to me (bah-da bah-da-da-da) "Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be ..." Nah, I don't think so. This particular Monday is just awful if you're a member of Giants county.  Forget about the fact the team started 0-2 for the fourth straight season and the seventh time in the last eight years. That's bad enough. Even worse is the fact that running back Saquon Barkley suffered a season-ending torn ACL, and receiver Sterling Shepard looks like he's going to miss a few weeks with a turf toe. That's hardly good news for the Giants or their fan base. While both are significant losses, Barkley will probably be the most challenging to replace in the Giants offense. Let's hear what former Giants quarterback Eli Manning had to say about Barkley's loss and what that might mean for the Giants offense as led by a second-year quarterback in Daniel Jones. It's our weekly crossover show featuring Lorin Cox, host of the LockedOn Bears podcast. In segment one, we take a look back at that historic moment and follow it through Jones' gutsy Week 1 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night. Learn more about your ad choices.  Week 1 Recap: A Glass Half Full - 09/15/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2517

A win is a win, and a loss is a loss. But when you're talking about a team undergoing a rebuilding process such as the Giants, it's easy to overlook the positives in favor of the negatives. In this episode, we look at the positives from their 26-16 loss over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football, and we try to dig a little beyond the numbers. Gene Clemons of Giants Country helps break it all down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 Game Day Musings - 09/13/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1784

Happy Game Day, Giants fans! I honestly didn't think I'd have a chance to say that this year, but it sure does feel good to be able to say that. You know I was thinking over the weekend how last year I couldn't wait for the season--a miserable season--to end, never imagining that we'd find ourselves months later in a global pandemic that would threaten football season. But we made it, and after initially planning to wait for tonight's game to unfold and do a recap on Tuesday, I called an audible. You see, I had started to write an article for Giants Country about some thoughts I had at the start of the season, and I thought, "Why not talk about them instead?" So here we are, with those thoughts, which include expectations for the team, for certain players, and the season in general, all covered in today's podcast. Have a listen, and don't forget we'll have our weekly mailbag (hopefully) on Wednesday to discuss whatever is on your mind--and there should be a lot after we finally get a look at this team. Enjoy tonight's game! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 Friday Vibes - 09/11/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1615

Ah, Monday Night Football, how I missed you. That's right, you read that correctly. But if you're new to this podcast or have no idea what I'm talking about, I've never been shy about expressing my disdain for night games and especially Monday Night Football, which from a professional perspective, is the worst of the worst. Why is that, you ask? Long night, short deadline, and short work week to follow. It's awful, and I don't know anyone in the sports media business who works on deadline who likes MNF. But look, after facing the prospect of there not being any football, here we are. So who cares if it's a night game that will create a short work week? We have football! My change of heart for MNF isn't the only change of heart I've had. I share in head coach Joe Judge's feelings about playing starters on special teams, which you'll hear him explain.  I also continue to be impressed with how meticulous this man is in getting this team together--and remember, I covered the Coughlin years from start to finish.  I have no idea what the upcoming season holds for the Giants. But I like what they're doing and what they're saying, like how Saquon Barkley sits there and says (yes with a straight face) that he'll never be the running back he wants to be. And that's not because he doubts himself but because he recognizes how important it is to keep on reaching for the stars. There will be a lot of people who, if the Giants get blown out by the Steelers (for the record, I think they lose to the Steelers, but I also think it will be a lot more competitive than some of the Giants games we've seen in the past), will have the pitchforks out. But let me leave you with this since the next podcast is Tuesday: It's all about progress, and that progress is probably going to be made in baby steps that hopefully begin with the team being worthy of standing on the same field as the Steelers.  Week 1 Cross Over Show with Christopher Carter - 09/10/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1872

We're here, folks! That's right, preparations are underway for Week 1 of the NFL season, and that means it's time for our weekly crossover shows with the other LockedOn hosts. This week, Christopher Carter of LockedOn Steelers joins the program and, attention Joe Judge and Daniel Jones! Christopher has a massive tip on how the Giants can get the better of a very tough Steelers defense, which last year led the NFL in just about every significant passing category. But don't worry, folks. I didn't give away too much about the Giants and their weaknesses (I don't think), though to be honest, when it comes to the Giants defensive secondary vs. the Steelers receivers, I get chills, and no, not the good kind. (Same can be said of the Steelers' front seven against a revamped Giants offensive line, by the way.) And did I mention that this week's game marks the return of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the quarterback that had the Giants not been able to swing the trade in 2004 to get Eli Manning would have been lining up for New York all these years?  Regular-Season Vibes - 09/09/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1648

Okay, admit it.  You probably had your doubts that the NFL would make it to this point and successfully keep the COVID-19 pandemic at bay, right? Yeah, so did I.   But it's okay, folks. Unlike the Fonz, who always had trouble uttering a certain word that's applicable in this case, I am happy to admit I was wrong about the regular-season starting on time. So here we are, Week 1 on the horizon and that being a very, very difficult Monday Night Football match-up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Now for as happy as I am that there will be Giants football, I'm not digging the match-ups on both sides of the ball, which I explain on the podcast.  If you had to put me on the spot right now, I'd say I don't feel good about a Giants win (the Giants are a 5.5 underdog at home, by the way). But hey, stranger things have happened, which is why you line up to play the game, right?  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 Twitter Tuesday - 09/08/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1818

It never fails. The Giants make roster moves every year that leave fans stunned, shocked, and even angry, and 2020 was no different. The waiving of linebacker Ryan Connelly and the release of receiver Corey Coleman are the two moves that qualify as the "What the heck were they thinking?" moves, so we try to answer that question in this week's listener mailbag. We also have questions about the practice squad rules and how that will work this year that we sort through. Plus, a very astute listener might be on to something when it comes to the Week 1 starting offensive line plans. It's all in our latest Twitter Tuesday podcast, which, if you want in for the future, all you have to do is send your questions to lockedongiantspodcast@gmail.com.  Oh, and a special shout out to our listeners in Brazil. We appreciate you. (If you're a new listener or from overseas, be sure to let us know so we can give you a shout out as well!)  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 LockedOn Giants: Breaking Camp - 09/04/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1753

Summer training camp sure went by quickly, didn't it? With training camp now in the books, the Giants brass has a lot of work to do--a lot. There is the matter of resolving the 53-man roster and the expanded practice squad. There is also a matter of figuring out if there is enough talent at every position on the team to be competitive. On top of it all, the Giants' brass has to navigate through all kinds of new rules governing injured reserve, practice squads, and other roster nuances. It's enough to make one's head spin--and trust me when I put my initial 53-man roster projection together, my head was spinning. This podcast episode covers some of the big-picture takeaways from training camp, starting with head coach joe Judge's coaching style and why he seemed able to "get away" with being a "hard-ass," whereas Tom Coughlin was unable to do so when he first came to the team back in 2004. We'll also talk about the cornerbacks, once a position that I thought would be a strength on this team but which has morphed into an area of concern that has improved just slightly with the addition of Logan Ryan. Finally, I'll cover some of those tricky roster moves so that you have an idea of what was behind some of the decisions made when they come out. It's all right here on the latest LockedOn Giants podcast.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 LockedOn Giants: Twitter Thursday - 09/03/2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2056

Is it me, or did training camp fly by in a snap? Regardless, here we are, the final day of Giants training camp, which will, of course, end with the team's final scrimmage. After that, the coaching staff and personnel department will retire to contemplate who makes the initial 53-man roster. Fittingly, today's Twitter Thursday features a host of questions from listeners concerning roster happenings and predictions.   Ashley P., Ron G, Jon G., Cesar A, Howard V., Pete M., David S, and, all the way from Germany, Stefan M. all check in with questions regarding various roster units that are still of a concern. Also, among the questions is how the roster cutdown and practice squad rules will work in this rather unusual preseason and more. Thanks to everyone who contributed a question and remember: if you want in on the weekly LockedOn Giants Listener Mailbag, send your questions to lockedongiantspodcast@gmail.com. Our next planned mailbag is set for Tuesday, September 8. I would love to hear from ya. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

 LockedOn Giants: Enough! - 09-02-2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1629

This is getting ridiculous. Yet another media outlet whose writer has probably never been on a Giants conference call or at a practice this year, has decided to pen a "judgemental article" about the Giants and head coach Joe Judge's methods.  But all these people who are taking swipes at Judge are managing to do is prove themselves to have no clue whatsoever about how things work. Hey, maybe the Giants won't win many games this year. But that's to be expected given that they have a new culture, new systems, new players and are trying to navigate through uncharted territories. Also in this episode, how Logan Ryan is going to help this team -- a LOT. Bolstering the defensive secondary is one way, but Ryan's presence is actually going to help the pass rush and the youngsters, making him well worth his one-year, $7.5 million contract. And what's the latest on the Giants injury situation? All that and more on today's LockedOn Giants podcast.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
