 EP 30: Courtney Love | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:53

The girls are back for another episode- just the two of them talking about some amazing women. Whether you love her or love to hate her, Courtney Love is undeniably one of rock n rolls modern muses. This week Lynx tells Chanty about Courtney’s rise from troubled childhood to rock n roll Goddess, as well as her marriage to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. While this part of Courtney’s story may be familiar to some, it’s how many songs she’s inspired her rock n roll peers to pen that cements her status as muse. Courtney takes the prize for “Queen of the Unwanted Song”, having songs written about her by Billy Corgan, Scott Weiland and Dave Grohl, to name a few. The girls give a shoutout to both of their dad’s- who are both big fans and supporters of the Podcast. The girls also discuss being so busy that they have to split up for rock and roll shows with other dolls (hey Ellen and LJP!) and report back later. Apparently it’s a show with a bunch of shoutouts so Chanty takes this opportunity to say hello to her favourite Roadie, Darryl! Lynx tells Chanty about the Riot Grrrl scene and talks about what killer female rock n roll bands inspired her from L7, Veruca Salt and Bikini Kill. GIRLS TO THE FRONT! You can donate to Chanty’s Dad’s MS Walk here. Donations go to finding effective treatment and hopefully soon, a cure for MS. http://mssoc.convio.net/site/TR/Walk/OntarioDivision?px=2693522&pg=personal&fr_id=5503 You can find the girls on Facebook and Instagram @musesandstuffpodcast Online at www.musesandstuff.ptbopodcasters.ca and on Twitter @ChantyandLynx

The sweetest chit-chat with Fred Penner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:32

Fred Penner is a 3-time Juno Award winning singer-songwriter who  just released his 13th Album which is called Hear the Music. Hear The Music features incredible Canadian talent including Ron Sexsmith, Alex Cuba, Basia Bulat, The Good Lovelies, Terra Lightfoot, Afie Jurvanen (a.k.a Bahamas) plus backup vocals from his family. For our American and overseas listeners, it’s important to know that people our age grew up watching Fred on television, as he had a television show called “Fred Penner’s Place”. It was on air for 12 glorious seasons. We grew up with him, sang with him laughed with the puppets, felt comforted by his wisdom and safe in his space. We are Fred Heads, and you’ll learn what that means in this upcoming interview. It was really our first time interviewing someone who was larger than life for us, but Fred put us at ease immediately. Ron Sexsmith describes Fred as having a “shaman like” quality about him and we agree. He is beautiful not only on the inside, but also on the outside. Fred is the real deal, he has been at this for 45 years and is an inspiration not only with his positive message, but his outlook on life- which we get into in our short and sweet chat. Fred is also an Ambassador for World Vision. Seeing as we are so very interested in musicians using their power for good, we certainly hope to continue to travel on this journey with Mr. Penner by our side, in our hearts and in our ears. We certainly recommend that you check out his new album Hear the Music, available everywhere music is sold. Tap into your inner child and reconnect to what’s important. Enjoy the show.  54-40 at Canadian Music Week | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:55

It’s a first for Brad and Dave of 54-40- their first podcast interview! Brad, Dave, Chanty and Lynx chat about their favourite podcasts, what radio stations they’re listening to and how social media has changed the way fans interact with their favourite bands. The million dollar question is: Do we really need to know what Dan Mangan had for lunch? The guys tell the story about the time they fanned-out or rather, Groupie-d out with Ron Wood and divulge the story behind the song “One Gun”- inspired by the bad-ass social activist Geanine who also happens to be married to Neil. It’s no surprise that these guys have had such an enduring career- they’re the real deal. Their music is not only classic and relevant, but they are genuinely kind and lovely men. You can look for their upcoming album “Keep on Walking” available in June and catch them on tour this July, we will be!

Repartee at Canadian Music Week | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:52

Chanty and Lynx have the pleasure of interviewing Repartee  – Winners of the Indie Award for Best Pop Group of the Year! Chanty has been a long time fan of Repartee since she saw them play in Halifax years ago. Meg and the boys are so funny and sweet and Josh didn’t even complain once when he got blinded by a video light! The girls ask the band how they really feel about the term Groupie, which city has the most enthusiastic dancers, which form of social media they prefer to connect with fans and what outrageous requests they would have on their roster, if they were that kinda band. You can find Repartee online at www.reparteemusic.ca on Instagram and Twitter @reparteemusic You can find Chanty and Lynx on Twitter @ChantyandLynx Instagram @musesandstuffpodcast online at www.musesandstuff.ptbopodcasters.ca

MunizO at Canadian Music Week | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:03

A little bonus for you! Chanty and Lynx went to the show at the Silver Dollar Room for Night 1 of Canadian Music Week and have a little something to share. On the bill was a band called MunizO, a three piece rock and roll group from Japan. They are great! And cute! The Groupies were thrilled! Chanty and Lynx were chatting with them after their show and figured they’d sneak in a little interview. We learned a few things Night 1 of CMW- including the meaning of the word MunizO, what exactly Jiro was wearing, what the Groupie scene in Japan is like and how powerful the mic is and to not hold it so close to everyone… We apologize for the sound quality. Groupie Growing Pains! Find MunizO online at www.munizo.com and on Instagram and Twitter @muniz023

EP 29: Alice Carbone- The Sex Girl (A Novel) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:21

Our guest this week is Kimberley Elyse, a podcaster from The Badassery Show, innovator and Australian beauty now living in Montreal. She is also Chanty’s “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers friend”. This week Chanty, Lynx and Kim discuss the novel The Sex Girl by Alice Carbone. The girls open up like they haven’t before, taking a page from Alice’s book in hopes that discussing their own struggles with addiction and body-image as well as lessons learned can help heal themselves, as well as others. This episode deals with subject matter which may be triggering to some, so listener discretion is advised. Chanty discovered the amazing, intelligent, and fiercely honest and courageous Alice Carbone-Tench through… a Heartbreaker. Like so many other inspiring women the girls have discovered through the podcasting process, Alice came into their line of vision after they started following her on Instagram though Benmont Tench‘s social media. Alice is so much more than the wife of a rock star in one of the biggest bands of all times, she is one of those women healing themselves and others through their art. In Alice’s case, she is healing not only through writing, but through cooking and her honest and lovely social media presence. This is the first time the girls dive into a novel. Once they were all finished reading, they were curious to know more, because when you’re finished with the book you’ve just begun. All avid readers, the girls started to make connections between the main character K’s struggles and found hope, knowledge and inspiration in Alice’s recovery. Don’t worry, the girls don’t release any spoilers, so you can pick up a copy of “The Sex Girl” and be totally blown away. You can let the girls know if you agree with their prediction behind character inspiration (Leonard Cohen!?!), learn what it’s like to be a “Sober Groupie”(awesome) and ultimately how to deal with personal trauma and find balance in a world of extremes. Thank you, Alice.  EP 28: Pamela and Michael Des Barres- Rock and Roll Marriage and Enduring Friendships | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:02

This week is dedicated to our Fairy Godmother, the one who started it all, Pamela Des Barres. Lynx and Chanty are tickled to have an entire episode dedicated to the Queen of the Groupies, the woman who brought them together.  She is a best selling author, writing mentor to so many dolls and still rocking today! She has a amazing clothing line called GroupieU and a new book coming out SO SOON! It’s called Led it Bleed: How to Write a Rockin’ Memoir and you can pre-order it on Amazon today. The girls discuss Pamela’s second book: Take Another Little Piece of my Heart: A Groupie Grows Up. They talk about Pamela’s meeting, marriage, divorce and everlasting friendship with Michael Des Barres. (Guess what, HE was the Groupie in that meeting- knowing EXACTLY who she was and LOVING her for it!) They touch on themes of the ideal rock and roll romance and marriage, monogamy, polyamory, struggling with addiction, yoga, finding your true self outside of being a rock star’s girlfriend/wife and how much they all love their daddies. Plus! The episode is packed with hilarious tidbits from the time Pamela went out to the movies with Woody Allen, received a call from Barbara Streisand and the time she was invited to Bob Dylan‘s birthday party and danced all night to the jukebox gifted to Bob by Tom Petty, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne! Michael Des Barres has one of the girls’ favourite social media presences. He is positive, insightful and always wanting to do good and better, meanwhile encouraging others to do the same. Michael is a musician, actor, and host of the Michael Des Barres show on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM Radio. He is eloquent and inspiring, prompting the girls to deduce that the drugged up, drugged out rock star is not what anyone is looking for in our modern Groupie era. Give us the Enlightened Rock Star, please! Chanty and Lynx’s Groupie research has led them to so many wonderful people including Michael’s love, Britta who is also doing her part to heal the Earth through wellness and plant science! This episode is the perfect lead into next week’s episode where the girls will get deeper into the world of the addict, the muse and the rock star when they discuss Alice Carbone‘s book Sex Girl. She is another amazing and powerful woman who we discovered through one of our favourite bands… but you’ll have to wait until next week to hear THAT story. As Pamela and Michael believe, it is so important to stay friends with those people who shaped you to be who you are, and so we would like to say thank you and we love you to our rock and roll lovies, past, present and future for allowing us to grow through what we go through! And as Pamela says, “Hug your ex, dolls!” You can pre-order Miss P’s new book here: https://www.amazon.ca/Let-Bleed-Write-Rockin-Memoir/dp/0399174206 Miss P’s delicious clothing line can be found here: https://www.groupieu.com/ Find her on Instagram @groupieu @pameladesbarres and Twitter @PamelaDesBarres Listen to Michael’s Radio Show: Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM Radio Channel 21, weekdays from 5-8am PT and 9pm- midnight Pacific Follow him on Twiter @michaeldesbarres and @littlesteven_ug You can find Britta on Instagram @pilateswithbritta You can find the girls on Twitter @ChantyandLynx Facebook Muses and Stuff Podcast and at www.musesandstuff.ptbopodcasters.ca

EP 27: Miki the Rock and Roll Psychic | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:22

Lynx and Chanty have the pleasure of sitting down with Miki, a clairvoyant Medium who has been working as a Psychic since the age of 12. She is a highly sought after professional whose client base spans two continents. Miki’s many talents have made her a welcome guest, lecturer, and advisor on radio, television and in numerous newspapers and magazines. These include City TV, The Life Network, Breakfast Television, CBC, CTV News, Global News and CTV Talk Television. She is the only Psychic in the history of print to have a nationally syndicated newspaper column.  The girls met at one of Pamela Des Barres’ legendary writing workshops in Toronto and are gathered here today in the name of friendship, love and Rock and Roll! They talk about growing your intuition, how it’s okay to be spiritually in tune these days (although John and Yoko were doing it first), opening our minds to something bigger than ourselves, and how psychics have different wrists. Miki explains how she became known as the Rock and Roll Medium, how a Crystal Ball works, why she won’t read children and past life recall. They also talk about the macabre, ghosts, gorgeous tour buses, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton and Steven Tyler. This week Chanty and Lynx balance out last week’s episode with The Girl in the Song! How did we pick just 10? We explain that, so give it a listen! The muses this week include Leonard Cohen’s Suzanne, a Spice Girl, Mac DeMarco’s beloved “Kiki“, a President’s daughter, and a seamstress for the band! We actually talk about way more than 10, and every one of these songs will be up on our Muses and Stuff Spotify account, so get hip! Chanty finally gets to talk about one of her favourite poets BESIDES Leonard, and that’s Pete Doherty! She surprises Lynx with the girl behind the song What Katy Did and Lynx surprises everyone with a personal story of the time Pete actually gave her his guitar.  EP 25: Male Muses (The Boy in the Song) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:43

This week is all about the boys! Lynx and Chanty have rounded up 10 lesser known backstories to some of their favourite tunes that were inspired by the artists’ friends, family members, ex’s and fellow bandmates. The pair also gush about their love for Steven Van Zandt, ponder the state of current rock “feuds” and discuss the fact that we all want a song written about us, that is until it turns out to be an unflattering one. Oh, and they also sing! (and are very sorry about that). You can find most of these stories in the book “The Boy in the Song” By Michael Heatley & Frank Hopkinson, and be sure to check out our brand new Spotify account for a playlist specially curated for your pleasure!  Bonus Episode: Something about Tom Petty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:57

Chanty and Kimmy were introduced by a mutual friend because a) They are both badass women who have bad ass podcasts and perhaps more importantly, b) THEY ARE BOTH TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS! Chanty and Kim have been chatting online for weeks and finally spent a night in together meeting face to face (kind of- Kim is an Australian living in Montreal)! They share stories about where and when they heard TP & TH for the first time, discuss favourite albums (Chanty cannot decide, Kimmy can!) They also talk Mudcrutch, Petty solo records and Chanty tells a story about how she almost got into a fight in public defending why there absolutely should be at LEAST 4 discs of Runnin’ Down a Dream.  EP 24: Cyrinda Foxe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:36

This week Chanty and Lynx discuss the stunningly beautiful Cyrinda Foxe. Raised in a strict, often abusive household, Cyrinda found solace in rock n roll music and magazines. It was there she discovered women like Marianne Faithfull, Pattie Boyd, and Anita Pallenberg, divine women she describes as “absolutely superior”. In 1971, Cyrinda left home for New York City. It wasn’t long before she became a regular at Max’s Kansas City, making friends with Leee Black Childers and Candy Darling who transformed her look, giving her the “Marilyn Makeover” that caught the eye of Andy Warhol. Andy cast her in “Pork” where she met and befriended Cherry Vanilla, a woman she describes as “A pure work of art” (Chanty and Lynx full heartedly agree with this sentiment!) It was through Cherry and Leee that Cyrinda met and fell for her first rockstar, David Bowie. Their affair was hot, hot, hot, and we have Cyrinda to thank for the fantastic song “Jean Genie” (though the lyrics are about Iggy and not her!) Her first marriage was to New York Dolls frontman David Johansson, but it’s her tempestuous second marriage to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler (and the tell-all book she wrote about it!) that really caused a stir. Lynx and Chanty discuss all this, and Cyrinda’s deep aversion to the word “Groupie”… tune in for the full story on this week’s episode!  EP 23: Pleasant Gehman Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:39

Our guest this week is Pleasant Gehman. Crowned the Princess of Hollywood by Rodney Bingenheimer, this Goddess does it all. She’s a writer, actress, musician, tarot reader and alternative healer. It doesn’t stop there. Some of you may already know her as Princess Farhana- Belly Dancer extraordinaire. She is also the source of one of our favourite quotes: “Being a Groupie is like worshipping at the Church of Rock ‘n’ Roll and you are the High Priestess”. Pleasant tells us exciting and hilarious tales from the LA Punk Scene. This includes how she befriended a then unknown Darby Crash and Pat Smear of The Germs.  She had a wild summer fling with Iggy Pop, and lived at Disgraceland (Punk’s notorious party house with roommates like Belinda Carlisle). She went from ‘zine maker to rock and roll journalist to performer and rock star in her own right, and she’s funny as hell. We have a discussion about coming out of the Broom closet, how the veil is lifting and swap mutual paranormal experiences. Oh, and Chanty freaks out when she discovers that Pleasant once co-starred in a movie with Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys!! Listen in to hear the whole story! You can find Pleasant online at www.pleasantgehman.com You can find all of her books there including, Showgirl Confidential: My life Ontage, Backstage and on the Road and The Belly Dance Handbook: A Companion for the Serious Dancer You can find her on Instagram @princessofhollywood You can find Princess Farhana online at www.princessfarhana.com and on Twitter @PrincessFarhana You can find Chanty and Lynx on Twitter @ChantyandLynx and Instagram @musesandstuffpodcast Don’t forget to Rate, Review and Subscribe iTunes!

 EP: 22 Agnes DeMarco Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:20

Agnes DeMarco is a Rock Star. A former ballerina, a true music lover and a guiding light of inspiration, she truly believes that music is the ultimate connector helping people to find their sense of purpose. Oh, and she’s Mac DeMarco’s mom! She has introduced Mac’s band at festivals, joined him on tour and even gotten up on stage to sing alongside her son. Agnes just returned from spending a few weeks chillin’ in LA with Mac and Keira and took some time to sit down with us to discuss a whoooooooole bunch of stuff! She taught us that Edmonton is the cultural mecca of the prairies and shares with us her upbringing in a musical household. (Be sure to check our her dad’s story- Hank DeMarco, the bionic saxophone player). We discuss music as a platform for social change, standing up for what you believe and how human connection is of total importance. That’s why Agnes takes the time to connect with Mac’s fans, responding to the questions and letters she receives from the Fan Club. Agnes tells us some amazing stories such as her first rock concert being CREAM because the cute boy on the bus told her to go! She is our Rock and Roll Oracle, sharing such wisdom as: you don’t have to be Bachman Turner Overdrive to be successful in Canadian music, and that sometimes you don’t need anyone to fix it, you just need somebody to hold you. We can’t thank Agnes enough for being such an open, kind and beautiful guest. We look forward to frequent check-ins to make sure we keep up to date in the world of Mama DeMarco!
