One question I always ask at the beginning of every mastermind session with my business partner David is "What does success look like when this meeting ends?" We don't end the meeting until we've gone through all those agenda items. Why? Because if you don't frame your meetings, you'll get lost. Having a success agenda also provides a sense of accomplishment as you're making progress.
It's awesome to have guidelines and rules, but unless you're flexible you will struggle. "Blessed are the flexible for they shall not break." Be ready to deal with the outliers.
If we're not careful, as content creators, we become overly responsible. We take responsibility for people's results. Your job as the content creator is to be responsible for the tools and to over deliver. If people are successful, you'll get a big ego. If they're not, you'll beat yourself up over it. It's just like the manufacturer or developer of a piece of exercise equipment. If the people are successful or if they fail in getting healthy, it's not their responsibility. Give yourself a break.
Not every season is a time to write. Sometimes you need to push through the resistance but sometimes it's actually not the right time. How do you know the difference? Look at your pace, your family and your rhythm and determine if it's your time to consume or to create.
People often do beta tests of their products or services to charge less or charge differently and to essentially give themselves an out. As a result, people show up differently. You need the pressure of officially launching your book, course, etc. There will be mess ups, but that's why you over deliver. No beta tests.
I'm with the Ohio Realtors Leadership Academy with a Daily Show tip of the day. Study your audience before you speak. Watch here to find out more.
It's negative 3 degrees here in Ohio , and school is canceled. But in Wisconsin Minnesota it's negative 39 degrees, and they still have school. We make judgement calls all the time based on our conditions. Sometimes we need a new environment — we need to distance ourselves or run toward a different culture. Don't assume what is normal is what you're used to. Consider changing your environment.
Are you pursuing your dreams or are your dreams pursuing you? Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Someone recently told me that she found my videos while exercising incredibly distracting because I'm filming during such an unpleasant task. To me, exercise is not unpleasant. You're always going to have critics, but we're not responsible for those people. This doesn't mean we shouldn't take in other people's opinions. But we don't have to be held accountable to them.
Are you chasing squirrels or are you planting trees? People who are making a difference in the world are planting trees. They are on the offense instead of the defense. Focus on planting trees and soon the toxic squirrels can't even be seen.
We are all either reporters, historians or futurists in our lives. Historians focus on the past. Reporters focus on the present and Futurists look to the future.
The only thing preventing you from getting what you want in this life is the story you tell yourself. We often sabotage the exact thing we want. You will never outperform your own self image. It's like I talk about in my book Your Secret Name, we have an internal thermostat. Don't change your life, change your story. Start believing the truth that God says about you, not the truth the world says about you.
What do you do if someone on your team makes a mistake? I recently had that happen on my team. What did I do? I encourage them to move on. I believe if you're not making mistakes you're playing too small — being too safe. You need to allow yourself to make mistakes and then you can give your team grace as well. I believe my role is to give grace not critique.
How do you get other people to trust you? First, you make good on the promises you make to yourself. Whether it's working out, following up or showing up on time, you need to make sure you do the things you've told yourself you would do. When you don't believe in yourself, other people can sense it.
Yesterday I went to four different stores to find a snow blower. They were all out and really didn't know when they would get more in stock. I ordered one from Amazon and it will be here tomorrow. Now, I'm not here to tout the virtues of one shopping option over another or one company over another. Instead, I want us to think about our own mindset of doing business. Are we lean and malleable or overweight and lethargic in business? Do we find a way to make things happen? Evaluate your mindset today.
