A prevailing phrase in American culture is "follow your passion". However, scripture screams "Don't follow your passions! Follow Jesus!" It is our nature to follow our passions, but we must be intentional about pursuing Christ.
How have you grown in your relationship with Christ? As we come into the new year let us not just set goals for fitness and finances, but let us make spiritual goals. Are you more like Christ than you were a year ago? Let's spur each other on to look more like Jesus!
We the church of Christ are a broken people who have been healed. Christ came into this dark world to rescue us from the destruction we brought upon ourselves. "For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:21)
In light of the horrific event in Newtown we take some time to remember who Jesus is and why we can still sing. He is the light of the world amidst this darkness. "'Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me'" (John 14:1)
As followers of Christ we should set the curve in the way that we love others. "'By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.'" (John 13:35) Our love should not be average we should look different: "they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world" (1 Peter 2:12).
How can great leaders and teachers in the faith seemingly fall away from the truth? We worship a sovereign God and He uses wicked men to fulfill His purposes. Jesus was not surprised by the wicked deed of Judas. On the contrary, He used it to accomplish the greatest act in history.
We all want to be apart of something greater than ourselves. If you are a follower of Christ you are an agent on the greatest mission! We must never stop praying. We must keep our eyes open to every opportunity to share the truth of the gospel.
Are we a nation in crisis? God's solution is to build up His church. God builds royalty from refugee bricks, and we His bricks resist temptation, respect His authority, and represent Christ well.
If we grasp this passage in John we won't need any more instruction and our life will be a source of glory. We see a picture of Jesus' service to us through the washing of the disciples feet. Jesus lowered Himself to wash the unclean feet of the disciples which is a picture of how He lowered Himself from heaven to wash us with the blood of His cross. This truth should grip our hearts and compel us to worship our King.
What is the role of the church in American politics? As Christians we are blessed with the opportunity to influence our government toward righteousness through voting. This action alone is not enough though. We must continue to be the church, and invest in the people of our nation. The state of our political system represents the state of our nation, so the biggest influence in government we the church can make is by investing in the people of the nation.
"A man who hardens his neck after much reproof will suddenly be broken beyond remedy." (Proverbs 29:1) Is your heart hardened toward the truth of the gospel, or do you receive it with gladness? Jesus said "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day." (John 12:48) Will you be a good example or a horrible warning?
If you want to see God then you need to look at Jesus who is the physical representation of God's nature. His purpose in coming to earth was to reveal the glory of God through humiliating Himself to death on a tree. Some will respond with awe, and others will reject it (2 Corinthians 2:14-16). How will you respond?
In this message, we take a quick look back at where we have been over the last 42 weeks in John. As we continue in John, we are challenged to live in the truth that is revealed and work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
This week is a celebration of how God has provided through His body through the last several years at Watermark. Now that that there is "More Than Enough," Todd reminds us that we should continue to do what we have done all along: make disciples!
William Lane Craig joins Todd Wagner in a discussion about faith. Dr. Craig (of ReasonableFaith.org) answers several questions that skeptics of the Christian faith often raise such as is the Bible reliable, does God exist, and if God is good then why is there evil in the world.
