 Josh Rosen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:47:45

Airplants (tillandsia) are living sculptures, with a personality all their own. They thrive suspended in air, unconstrained by the limits of soil. This incredible ability, combined with their otherworldly form, inspired Josh Rosen to create products as unique as the plants themselves. As a landscape architect, artist, and horticulturalist, Airplantman was up to the challenge to create the best way to showcase his airplants. Built with an eye for fine design, craftsmanship, sustainability, and a genuine obsession for all things airplant, the Airplantman Designs product line was developed. http://larchitect.org/

IMPLEMENT is a design-focused landscape architecture practice based in Columbus Ohio; the studio name speaks to our ambition and reflects the pragmatic values that have shaped the agricultural and industrial landscapes of our Midwestern context. Lead by Design Principal Jason Kentner, the studio leverages its facility for conceptual visualization and strategic planning along with a craftsman-like attention to the quality of materials and resolution of construction details. That design dexterity allows the studio to work across scales from large to small; in a variety of contexts from rural to urban; and within a range of project typologies from parks and gardens to vacant lots and post-industrial sites. http://larchitect.org/

With offices in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio; Implementation of a new software within their design process needs to be well understood and strategic to maximize a return on their investment.  Erualdo R. González | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:02:58

Dr. González is a Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University Fullerton. Prof. González has 20 years of experience as a program evaluator and strategic planner for healthy communities with an emphasis in Latinx communities and communities of color. In today’s podcast we will discuss Dr. Erualdo R. González’s book Latino City: Urban Planning, Politics and the Grassroots. The book is written as an in-depth case study where he tackles and addresses critical questions about present-day redevelopment models for central city downtown areas such as new urbanism, creative city, and transit-oriented development in areas with a substantial latinx population by revealing the history of Santa Ana’s city commercial redevelopment plans. Not only does his research reveal redevelopment plans, controversies and grassroots struggles in isolation but he analyzes them critically as a connected part of a larger narrative that includes race, ethnicity, and immigration, especially from Mexico. He also dives into topics such as class, privilege, community redevelopment, political economy, and grassroots activism and analyzes these constructs in context. http://larchitect.org/
