 Episode 38 – Let Cheez-Its Take The Wheel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:56

Sometimes on We Only LOOK Thin you lean valuable lessons.  This week you learn that not all “t”s are silent and that Catherine is a yuk mouth who thinks apples are “meh”.  Catherine and Donald also tackle emotional eating; the act of turning to food for comfort when we get upset or stressed out.  The two of them discuss how they ate to soothe themselves for most of their lives and how learning to sit with discomfort and own your feelings is a huge step in the weight loss adventure.  In addition, Listerine and fresh breath are both the Product of the Week (POW!) and Tip Of the Week (TOW!).  You also learn that Donald is a knight named “Sir Cheese Wygal” and yet another valuable lesson; you don’t want to wear a chum bathing suit to a shark convention.  Episode 37 – The Motivation Bus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:28

Have you ever said, “I can’t lose weight because I’m just not motivated?”.  Catherine and Donald sure have, but in this episode, they reveal that motivation is a fallacy in weight loss and even when it does come along, it’s fleeting and unreliable.  If you wait for The Motivation Bus to pick you up, you’ll end up stuck at the bus stop. Instead of motivation, slowly build up momentum.  Momentum is better than motivation.  It’s like feeding yourself a pill wrapped in baloney, but it leads to weight and health goals.  Also, this week’s tip of the week is to take progress photos and this week’s Product Of the Week (POW!) is the rebounder.  Lastly, find out why Donald wore tissue boxes on his feet.  Episode 36 – Planned Obsolescence | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:10

When you fail to plan your obsolescence you plan to be obsolete.  Okay, that makes no sense, but I promise that this podcast will make everything clear.  In an episode with two new segments, Catherine and Donald talk about the planned obsolescence that’s built into many diet programs and home exercise equipment.   They caution about getting too excited over a new gadget or gizmo or a “get thin quick” diet instead of building sustainable habits.  They also introduce the Tip of the Week and this week’s tip is to watch out for buzzwords. Then they argue about whether it’s “ants on a log” or “sadness on a log”.  Which team are you on?   They also launch the Product Of the Week!  POW!  The “t” is silent.  Lastly, they ask the age-old question, did the dinosaurs track their calories?  Listen for the phrase that pays!  Note, there is no phrase that pays.  Episode 35 – You Can’t Fight Math | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:48

Math; none of us understand it. Certainly, none of us like it. But it turns out that it’s futile to fight against it. In this episode, Catherine and Donald talk about the weight loss equation; putting effort in equals results out. They discuss really examining your habits and being truly honest with yourself when “you’re trying everything” and still can’t lose the weight. Donald also talks about giving himself the nickname “Tank” and the couple take you on a vision quest. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a fun Pringles story and zombies! Share Tweet Share

 Episode 34 – What to Expect When You’re Expecting Company | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:07

On our weight loss adventures, it’s often easier to stick to our goals when we stick to our normal routines.  Unfortunately, loved ones and friends sometimes want to see us in person.  Catherine and Donald talk about ways to minimize the weight-loss impact of out-of-town guests and give a few tips about going to visit others.  Donald also discusses his inability to eat anything that doesn’t look like a caterpillar rainbow.   Last, but not least, they also talk about Fonzie, but not the Fonzie you’re thinking of.  Episode 33 – 365 Surprises | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:29

As the song from the musical that we never saw reminds us, there are 525,600 minutes in a year.  Surprise!  During our weight loss adventures, we often use things like weekends, holidays, and special occasions (weddings, birthdays, taco Tuesdays) as excuses for indulgent behavior.  In this episode, Catherine and Donald discuss how treating every day like it’s a surprise, will get you nowhere with weight loss.  You don’t have to be perfect, but try at least to achieve a solid B-.  Also, the couple reveal their secret for taking advantage of “Kids Eat Free Wednesdays”, discuss holidays from around the world for some reason, and prove that they are math geniuses.  Episode 32 – Imaginary Arizona Force Field | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:44

Social constructs, and barriers, and milestones, oh my!  We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to accomplish weight-loss goals by a certain age or for a certain event and if we don’t, we view ourselves as failures.  Catherine and Donald talk about getting through these imaginary barriers and not building them for ourselves in the first place.  It’s never too late to develop good habits and get to the weight that you want.  If Catherine and Donald can do it in their 40s, then anyone can.  Also, they get very confused about the difference between American Pounds and British Stones and they also ask the age-old question, “Is Magic Shell human food?”.  Episode 31 – Sowing the Seeds of Grub | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:20

Are you a weight-loss farmer or a weight-loss hunter?  Can’t decide?  That’s probably because we just made up those things.  However, if you listen to this episode, the choice will become clear.  Catherine and Donald discuss the attempt to reap weight-loss benefits without giving your crops a chance to grow.  Many people plant the seed of weight loss, but then pull up the plant at the roots before it has a chance to yield fruit.  Trying to find a “get thin quick scheme” doesn’t pay off in the long run.  Also, they mix their metaphors and throw in some banking references to investing and compound interest for some reason. As if that wasn’t enough, Catherine sings about all you can eat tacos.  Listen for yourself, won’t you? Share Tweet Share

Episode 30 – We Only LOOK Thin After Dark | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:40

This episode is about what happens after the sun goes down.  Whether you are alone or with that special someone, things can get wild in the dark.  Spoiler alert, Catherine and Donald talk about late night, unplanned eating, and overindulging.  Willpower wears down throughout the day and can be at it’s lowest point at night.  When you’ve had a full day, worked hard, and are tired, you don’t always make the right food choices.  Catherine and Donald talk about strategies for being ready to fight those late-night cravings.  Does it have something to do with Soylent Green?  Listen and find out!  Episode 29 – Weight Loss Rumspringa | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:13

There is a popular belief, that We Only LOOK Thin will do nothing to dispel, that when Amish children reach a certain age, they have a rite of passage called “Rumspringa”. The children live separately from the Amish community for a time to experience technology and to sow their wild oats (do people still say that? How old is the person writing this?). In this episode, Catherine and Donald talk about the fact that during a weight loss adventure, people often want to take a Rumspringa. How you deal with these urges and how you move on from a Rumspringa is an important part of achieving your goal. How do you self-identify? Also, they introduce you to the new Tums bracelet and the equally new, box of powdered Doritos. Share Tweet Share

Episode 27 – The Chumbawambasode or Weight Loss is Stupid and I Hate It | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:36

We’ve all had bad days or weeks on our weight loss adventure. Sometimes it just seems stupid. But as the great American Poet Chumbawamba wrote, “I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down”. In this episode, Catherine and Donald talk about handling bad days when you just want to throw away your weight loss plan. Do you hide it? Do you eat in secret? No, you share your feelings, so you don’t feel so alone. You also get introduced to the Ice Cube of Hatred and Catherine debuts her Tom Cruise character. This episode is truly Top Gun!  Episode 28 – Public Enemy: Fear of a Roger Planet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:15

In a very patriotic episode, Catherine and Donald tell you what’s wrong with America. Don’t worry, it’s not what you think. They introduce you to Roger and the hate method of weight loss and tell you how it relates to staying married out of spite. They also talk about how weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint. If you start too fast, too soon, you can burn out before you reach your goal. Pace yourself; if you lose even one pound a month, that’s almost 50 pounds in 4 years. They also discuss building up to lifting a full-sized refrigerator and running a mile for medicine. Share Tweet Share

 Episode 26 – Breaking Bad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:15

The latest episode of We Only LOOK Thin is fueled by drugs.  Or at least it’s fueled by a TV show about drugs.  Catherine and Donald use a “Breaking Bad” analogy to discuss the slow erosion of good habits and how you can take tiny steps in the wrong direction that lead to becoming the Walter White of gaining weight.  You have to be ever vigilant and honest with yourself during your weight loss adventure and not say “just this one time”.  Before you know it, you’re doing a bad habit over and over again. It’s not all doom and gloom though.  Catherine and Donald also talk about the good news;  it can also work in the other direction.  By gently adding one good habit at a time, you can work your way towards your goal and towards being your best self.  They also ask the age-old question; do you kick a medicine ball? Sponsored by Bloomin’ Celery! Share Tweet Share

Episode 25 – Better Off Fed or Be Flexible With Your Method Not With Your Goal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:09

Fresh off their critically acclaimed appearance at the 2018 Idea World Fitness and Nutrition Convention, Catherine and Donald talk about skiing down the mountain that is weight loss and that when obstacles get in your way, you have to be prepared to turn. Your path down the mountain may change, but reaching the bottom is still the goal. Sometimes we get locked in to the idea that there is only one “right way” to lose weight. Instead, we need to look at the reality of our situations and be flexible. The couple also discuss the difference between jazz hands and spirit fingers and how doing both at the same time is impossible. Share Tweet Share

Episode 24 – Water Cooler Talk with Kate | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:51

Catherine and Donald talk to Kate about being honest with yourself and realize that “mostly doing it on most days” is not the same as really doing it.  They also discuss the value of being your true self and not setting unrealistic goals.  Even when something seems like it’s now a habit, if you lose focus on it can slip away.  Plus, there’s water cooler talk.  They literally talk about water coolers and the potential hazards of changing 5 gallon water bottles.  They also talk about the best times of year to drink water and how salad is a broad concept. It’s riveting! Share Tweet Share
