In March, our lives were turned sideways at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s especially true for Dr. Suzanne Bennett, an anesthesiologist at UC Health, who went from performing relatively routine surgical procedures to helping craft the health system’s pandemic response plan. On episode 73, Suzanne talks about how she realized her dream of becoming a doctor after working as a nurse and what is has been like on the medical frontlines. As the director of UC’s critical division, she’s made personal sacrifices including working 16 to 18 hour days and deciding to have her three youngest sons temporarily stay with their father full-time this spring.  Episode 72: Tonia Elrod - P&G Executive + American Heart Association Ambassador | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:39

Toward the end of 2018, P&G executive Tonia Elrod received a clean bill of heart health. Four months later, she suffered a massive heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. She was unconscious and didn’t have a pulse when the paramedics arrived. Against all odds and after two weeks in the cardiac ICU, Tonia survived. On episode 72, Tonia shares her recovery journey that continues today. Her brush with death taught her that our reactions are what define us and that there’s always something to be grateful for. In her early 20s, Christine Luken was working as an accountant, but her personal finances were in shambles. She had developed an unhealthy relationship with money, in large part due to her romantic relationship at the time. In 2014, Brogan Dulle didn’t show up to coach his swim practice, and his mom, Beth, knew something was wrong. Eight days later, after an extensive search, authorities found Brogan had died by suicide. On episode 63, Beth discusses the search party, and the good things that have come in wake of this tragedy. In 2015, the Dulle family started 8 Days of Greatness as a way to commemorate Brogan’s life each year. Today, mental health check-ins are a normal part of the family’s routine, and Beth works for 1N5, a nonprofit that increases awareness and provides education about mental health to stop the stigma.
