 #202 Seth Baird | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3625

There are as many different running stories as there are runners, but Seth Baird’s path to the sport is more unusual than most. Up until three years ago Seth was working hard to pursue professional body building - the literal opposite of what he is doing now. After a serious injury, and a dalliance with performance enhancers, Seth picked up running and took to it like a fish in water. This fall Seth ran his first marathon, after setting PR’s at every distance in his lead-up, and clocked a 3:14 at Charlotte. In this episode, Seth talks about this running conversion, adapting to a new model of training his body, what the marathon feels like for a first-timer.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

 #198 - Carly Spataro | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3021

In 2016, Carly Spataro was living a relatively sedentary lifestyle after years of playing soccer. By the end of 2017 she had run five marathons and improved her time from her debut 3:49 to 3:14. Needless to say, she was hooked. This last month Carly did the seemingly impossible for an amateur runner who works full-time as a pharmacist - she ran both the Chicago as NYC marathons (just three weeks apart) and did so in 2:55 and 3:05, respectively. In this episode Carly shares how she built herself into a successful and durable marathoner, how she came to love the sport, and how she stepped up her game in 2019. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

 #194 - Alissa Kolarik | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3181

I was so exited to get Alissa Kolarik on the show because I can’t get enough of comeback stories. In the same vein, I also love stories about people who buck conventional wisdom and find a better path for them. Alissa embodied both of these ideas on her way to a huge PR of 3:05:20 at the Berlin Marathon. In this episode, Alissa discusses her winding running journey, choices she’s made to improve her running, and her ability to work through, and past, setbacks. In this episode Julie Sapper talks about something that affects us all - bouncing back from injury. We discuss all things about mindset, planning and execution that got Julie back on the road very quickly. In the spring Julie tore her meniscus as she was preparing for the Boston Marathon. Then, Julie hit the comeback trail in time for a Last Chance BQ marathon.  #190 Aly Groft | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 4544

People like Aly Groft was the reason  the Rambling Runner Podcast was created. At the Erie Marathon last week Aly got her fourth consecutive Boston qualifying time. Thankfully, it was her first time getting far enough under the qualifying time to run the race. That’s right, she had three straight BQ’s but none fast enough to register. Her commitment and determination are matched only by her optimism. With four kids under the age of eight, and a job as a first grade teacher, Aly is surrounded by little ones begging for her attention. In this episode we talk about maintaining a positive mindset, achieving goals, working with kids while planning training around your own, and so much more.
