#87 – March Madness Brackets Busted, Unrest in NBA Resting | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:06

We’re taking on this whole March Madness thing by ourselves. The brackets are mostly busted with only a few oddities in the world with a perfect Final Four. THANKS THE EAST! Adam Silver is cracking down on teams for resting players in the NBA but some whiny fans are saying that it’s not fair that their favorite player happened to sit at the only game they’ve ever been to. Will the NBA crack down on this further? Geoff thinks they should.

#86 – March Madness WYR, Geoff’s Tired of Tebow, How to Pick | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:31

Would You Rather Be a guy known for a foul that allowed someone to win the game, or be the guy who lost because he missed those same free throws. Toss Up Who’s the first 1 or 2 seed to lose in March Madness? John goes with Duke losing in the second round and Geoff says Gonzaga, who John has winning the whole darn thing. Other Bits Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer played each other outside of the finals for the first time since 2004 as they were seeded 6th and 10th at Indian Wells. We also have confirmation it’s Kyrgios like keer-ee-aus or keer-y-oss. The Columbus Crew have their first loss of the season against the Houston Dynamo, losing 3-1. The Crew are now 0-1-1 and take on D.C. United this Saturday. There was a double-knockout in an MMA match earlier this week. Pretty crazy stuff. The Columbus Blue Jackets now have the most wins in franchise history and are only a few games away from grabbing the President’s cup. Sergei Bobrovsky still holds the most wins as a Blue Jackets goalie with 37. The Blue Jackets play the NY Islanders this Saturday. Kevin Love is starting to practice again, so that’s good news for the Cavs. Michael Brantley is making his way back for the Indians, producing runs in the minor league of Spring Training. The Indians are hoping to have him toward the beginning of the regular season. You can check out my guest post on the non-basketball way to make your March Madness picks, which includes Well-informed Toast, Mascot Deathmatch and hex value.

Villanova got screwed with Duke being in the same bracket and Steve and Geoff explain why. We also get into how the bracket committee works and how they decide who goes in what portion of the bracket. Who do you have as your big bracket buster this year? The crew goes over their final four all the way to the National Champion, but you’ll have to listen to see who we chose. Plus, John asks some dumb questions but also gives a quick rundown of how teams do in the tournament and finals based on what their mascot is. Hint: Cats do pretty well.  #85 ? NFL Free Agency Has Begun, Here’s Everything You Missed From Day 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:16

Free agency began Thursday this week and things got crazy right out of the gate. There’s a pretty good list of the biggest moves below, but first let’s chat about what the Browns did. Browns Making…Good Moves? In a true test of Paul “Moneyball” DePodesta’s skills, he made one of the craziest trades of free agency. The Texans, feeling the burn after paying a ton of money for Brock Osweiler and essentially getting no return wanted to dump both him and his contract. Problem was there was a $16 million tariff for anyone that wanted him. Enter the Browns. Coming into free agency with roughly $100 million in cap space, they had the room to grab Osweiler and take the hit of $16 million. The cherry on top was that they not only got Osweiler, they also got picks for the 2017 and 2018 drafts including a second-rounder. So Browns get sub-par QB (so far), two picks and only gave up a later round draft pick and $16 million. To top it all off the Browns are now even saying they’re open to trading Brock away and including half of that $16 million to make it more appealing. There are plenty of jokes to be made, but for now it seems like the Browns know what they’re doing. They also picked up WR Kenny Britt, C JC Tretter and G Kevin Zeitler. Pretty good so far. Other Big Moves Jay Cutler released by the Bears, we think he might land with the Jets Mike Glennon signed a huuuuge contract with the Bears Phil Dawson is headed to Arizona Robbie Gould will replace Dawson in San Francisco Desean Jackson is probably headed to Tampa Bay Russel Okung negotiated a great deal for himself and wound up at the Chargers Dan Carpenter was released by the Bills Bills grabbed Safety Jordan Poyer from the Browns Bills also nabbed fullbacks Mike Tolbert and Patrick DiMarco in preparation for what could only be a Maryland I 49ers agreed to terms with Kyle Juszczyk Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley are headed to the 49ers as well Markus Wheaten is headed to the Bears Ted Ginn Jr. headed to New Orleans Kirk Cousins is asking for a trade Many, many more moves to come

#84 ? w/ Andrew Mauney – The Upcoming eNBA and What Do eSports Coaches Do? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:03

Andrew Mauney joins us again to discuss an upcoming transition into an NBA league that is truly electronic, with NBA teams owning their own teams of esports players to then play…other NBA esports players? We’ve heard about coaches in esports, but what do they do? What does a practice session look like for an esports team and how do they learn from their mistakes. There are the standard big esports games, but what should they start playing. What would be fun to see? Mauney suggests Rainbow Six Siege and StarCraft, John suggests the classic IDARB and Geoff suggests Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team Racing or FIFA. This episode features cheese being made in the background. Remember to subscribe on iTunes, Google Play Music or Stitcher.

#84 [GB] Bird-killing Stadiums, MLB Pace of Play and Our Own Combine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:45

Thanks for joining us for another week of That One Sports Show. This week we attempted to go live on our YouTube channel and did so successfully as a test, but we aren’t quite ready to do it weekly. In the meantime, subscribe on iTunes, Google Play Music or Stitcher. This week’s call-in topic, what is your favorite baseball memory? Leave us a message at (614) 398-3243. Would You Rather Have a stadium that killed birds or tore ACLs? The home of the Minnesota Vikings appears to be killing birds at an alarming rate and certain groups are not happy about it. At the end of the day though, if you had to choose the Vikings stadium, which kills birds or the Rams former stadium in St. Louis, which tears ACLs (see Reggie Bush), which you choose? Toss Up Will a RB or a WR or a DB have the fastest 40 time at the NFL Combine? John – DB Geoff – WR Last Week: Total points in Indians v. Reds Spring Training opener 11.5 = G-Over. J-Under John (5-4-1) – Yes Geoff (5-4-1) – No MLB Pace of Play It’s hard to argue that baseball games are starting to feel longer than they used to. In the last 100 years of baseball, games have moved from an average length of one hour, forty-seven minutes per game to three hours and two minutes per game. A listener sent along a New York Times article that took a look at what could potentially be done about the lengthy games and some answers have some validity. Whether or not they will be used is a different story.  #84 ? – Leonard Forty-nette, Combine Expectations, Old RBs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:06

The NFL Combine is going down this week/weekend and we take a look at what that means for young players, whether or not it has an effect on draft stock and what players can do or not do to help themselves during the drills. A few old running backs have been cut, but will they end up back on their old teams or will Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles find a new home? Nick Mangold was let go while he was in Disneyworld and a few other Jets have been released. John avoids the quarterback situation in Cleveland. When we’re hosting our own combine we’ll be trying out the bench press to see how many reps we can get, but it definitely won’t be as many as Samaje Perine. The running back from Oklahoma put up 30 reps. We revisit the “tremendous bird-killing machine” of the Vikings stadium. Geoff reminds John of father-son NFL duo the McCaffreys.
