Songwriters Guild Live - May 3 with Annelies Jonkers & Wieger Troostheide | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:50

Annelies Jonkers maakt tijdloze folk muziek. Songwriters Guild Live - April 26 with Emma Elba & WPL de Witte | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:56

Emma Elba is a singer-songwriter from Amsterdam. she grew up with folk (from Irish Xmas tunes to idealistic hippie songs) and you can easily hear that back in her subtle songs. Her songs can silence the roughest sailor and tell about love, nostalgia, and nature's phenomenons. WPL de Witte is a recovering alcoholic (7 months in), and as part of treatment started to compulsively write songs. Since January, WPL has written an album full of them, which is called 'Baart u ook Egeltjes', produced by Tim Achthoven. The record will be released after the summer. The album deals with life, love, death and more of that good stuff, told from the perspective of the eponymous hedgehog (not to be taken literally of course, but more a prickly character).  Songwriters Guild Live - April 19 with The Early Spring and Job Alone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:44

The Early Spring is a singer-songwriter from Belgium. Her indie folk universe is influenced by everything that surrounds her. She writes about her personal experiences, but also what she witnesses, hears and sees. Passionate of adventures, travelling and meeting new people, The Early Spring wants to share her music a maybe create some special memories along the way. Songwriters Guild Live is a weekly radioshow in Amsterdam, focussed on singers who write songs. This week your host was Ro Halfhide.

Songwriters Guild Live - April 12 with Earopener and Dieter van der Westen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:58

Earopener works according to the principals of both Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso: compositions are never finished and always moving forward. This produces deeply emotional and ever changing Acoustic Soul from the Amsterdam formation, that frequently changes itself too. Expect the music to be gripping, moody and above all highly original. Earopener regulars are three very versatile musicians and a highly talented producer, covering a host of instruments. Victor Butzelaar plays on his main instrument the piano, Martijn van der Schouw has drums as his main and Rogier primarily plays guitar and sings while producer Jeiel Graanoogst puts it all together. Songwriters Guild Live - April 5 with Skiff and Jack Deen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:07

Jack Deen: "I'm from Volendam, I have been playing and writing since I was 16. I got inspired to write folky songs by the songwriters of the PX-songwriters in Volendam. The artists I take inspiration from are mainly: Bob Dylan, Tallest man on Earth, Jason Molina and Sufjan Stevens."  Songwriters Guild Live - March 29 with Bill Parker and Guilty Johnny | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:14

Bill Parker: "When I saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in February, 1964, my life changed from black & white to Technicolor, with a capital “T.” Three years later, I joined my first band, a kid bass player slinging Top 40 hits. By the time I switched to guitar four years after that, I had become well-versed in Top 40, soul (Stax & Atlantic Records, rather than Motown), rock & roll, rock, and The Blues. After graduating from high school, I left the southeast Chicago suburbs, moved to Texas, and started down the path to becoming a songwriter. It was never my intention to be a solo/singer-songwriter, however: I wanted to write songs, be in a good band, tour, and make records. I ended up becoming one because I couldn’t find musicians interested in doing original material, neither mine nor theirs. Seemed like everyone wanted to play the latest and greatest by the likes of Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I’d already had my fill of being a juke box. A friend once told me, “Billy, sometimes you just have to say ‘later’ and shine it on.” So, I copped a walk. Moved to England, back to Texas, then to Seattle, to Indiana, back to Texas, and now I’m in the Arizona desert with my guitars, my harmonicas, the bass I bought last summer, and my dog Mister Boogie, aka “6.5 Pounds of Death & Destruction.” Have guitar, will travel. Anytime, anywhere. And always remember Rule Number 1: If you can walk, you can make the gig." Heroes such as Ben Howard, John Butler, The Tallest Man On Earth and John Smith and a profound love for ancient myths and stories about lost times create a very distinct sound. The great common divider within the music is folk, but within the genre influences are very wide-ranged. Touching americana and blues music on one side and psychedelic edges on the other side of the spectrum, and ranging from small and quiet songs to epic songs about dragons to groovy dance-beats. Virtuosity on the guitar, a unique voice and themes on dragons and the wild all contribute to the feel of a great journey.
