MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner kicked Episode 37 off with Tricia and Gareth discussing the UKPC which Gareth recently attended. He played the Main Event and the Finale and gave us some insight into the way he played, how the fields were, and what it was like for an online player to go live. Tricia also shared some information on the withdrawal process from online sites that was sent to her via listener Jonas. We then got into the show and tackled a question from Grant regarding how to master poker when you have little time available (30min 30secs) and a bankroll question sent in by Albert (47mins 47secs). Gareth gave some very specific advice on how to determine what sized games we should be playing based on the size of our roll.  Episode 35 - Game Selection and Perfectionism | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5446

MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner kicked Episode 35 off with Tricia and Gareth talking about her new puppy Oliver Twist & Gareth’s new boiler situation. Also, Gareth shared a couple of large online MTT wins that he accomplished in the last couple of weeks. Gareth jumped into his question on game selection and we had an in-depth discussion on the various components that make a game “good” including field size, overall opponent skill, and value. Game selection can make a real difference to your bottom line, so figuring it out is critical to your long-term profitability. Tricia then covered a question posted in her Facebook group about why we can know exactly what to do but fail to pull the trigger. She discussed the basic problems of perfectionism: unrealistic expectations, rumination, need for approval, concerns over making mistakes and doubts about proper action. It is important to study and build confidence in your fundamentals so that you know the right things to do and then you must get over your mental blocks in order to execute. You also have to strive for the right amount of fear – just enough caution but not too much such that you are paralyzed.  Episode 34 - Max-Exploit, Self-Respect and Self-Discipline | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4773

MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner kicked Episode 34 off with Tricia and Gareth talking about all the progress Gareth has been making towards getting into shape so far this year. He also shared an app called Sleep Cycle that you can download to your phone to track your sleep. Tricia discussed a bit about how the 2nd round of the Solve for Why Academy Primer Course is underway and how she is learning so much more on this second go around. It pays to revisit your learning materials. (36:41) We then launched into answering a question from a Twitch viewer who asked about a particular fold that Gareth made on his stream with 99. The full hand history was discussed and we outlined the times in which it makes sense to make exploitative folds. We even touched on the fact that Phil Hellmuth does a lot of exploitative folding – maybe too much! However, it is important to not talk yourself into making bad river calls.(57:08) Tricia then covered a question sent to her by a private coaching client about the relationship between self-respect and self-discipline. She explained the scientific research that indicates that making the choice to be disciplined actually enhances self-respect. Want us to answer your poker question?
