Today's Podcast Giveaway: NINJA Audio Today's Email Questions: Emily - I just found out that I failed FAR for the second time. My scores were 73 and 64. I've passed the other parts, so I just need this one! I am wondering if you have any advice on how to take the test. I think the simulations are what have been giving me the most trouble. Anthony - Where is the best place to get CPE online? Randy - Where can I find study resources for Treasury Circular 230 on the REG exam? Anila - I passed Audit. Should I take FAR next or BEC? Ian - I am having trouble with Cost Accounting in BEC. I have the NINJA Notes, but I need some guidance in this area? Sherri - How do I prepare myself for the Written Communications portion of BEC? Spencer - I watched your video on the changes in AUD for 2013. Within the video you mention that changes go into effect on July 1, 2013. My questions is do changes for the other three sections go into effect on July 1, 2013, as well? Nicole - How many times should I rewrite the NINJA Notes as part of my studies? Rob - How long should I study for AUD? Is two months enough time? Ari - I have been studying for REG using 2011 materials. Will this hurt my chances of passing? Ankit - I am wondering if pursuing CPA after/along with my MBA would help my career? Do people generally pursue CPA after MBA or not? How can CPA help my career growth post MBA? Paul - Looking to the future - What career opportunities are available for a fresh CPA at 36 years old? And how do I help my family understand the time commitment the CPA Exam requires? I am single, but my family has such a hard time understanding when I say no to family gatherings. Teresa - I am taking the Audit Exam for the 2nd time and I think I need to brush up on my accounting skills. What do you suggest I do to have a quick review of general concepts? Should I grab an Intermediate or Financial Accounting book to skim over? Michael - I took FAR for my first time and failed. I studied a lot and I can't say I expected a passing score, but I expected I would do better than I did. Do you have any ideas for me on how to make sure I pass the next time?   Free NINJA CPA Review Materials   Want to Study Less & Get Higher CPA Exam Scores? Staying fresh/motivated while you go through the CPA Exam Noteboards - What's the deal? Auditing question re: Testing of Controls Today's Email Questions: Norma - I have 2012 study material from my video course and Wiley and the 2013 NINJA Notes. I am planning to take all four parts this year. Do you think I can get away with using the 2012 videos and Wiley material, vs. purchasing 2013 material? Randy - What recommendations do you have for preparing for the tax preparer and ethics related questions on REG? Maggie - Do you know when the audit reporting standards are changing on AUD? I heard everything is changing starting July 2013. Brian - I didn't do all that great on REG. I think the problem I had was reading the chapters too much and not working the questions enough. Would it be a good idea if I focused all my energy on your NINJA notes, flashcards, and multiple choice questions and shy away from the textbook? I feel like I learn better reading cram notes than reading from the text. Have you seen any other student study in this manor and succeed? Hershey - I am preparing for FAR and planning to sit for the test in May. But now I am thinking that I should instead sit for Audit since it is going to change in July. What do you think? Shauna - Is there a complete IRC database online similar to the one in the exam software (other than the one available in the AICPA sample test program)? Adam - I studied my butt off for Audit using a video course and the Wiley test bank. I came out of the exam feeling like I got every question correct. I could not have felt more confident on the exam and the material. I got my score and ended up with a 71. I'm in complete and utter shock at my grade. Have you heard of this before? I feel like my exam was switched with someone else's. Sylli - I need to send my resume to one of the Big 4 firms, but I haven’t started taking the exam yet. Should I put the name of my review course in my resume? Andrew - I failed REG for the second time. The simulations are killing me. What can I do to improve in the sims? Michelle - It has been a long time since I have taken the exam and I am very nervous about starting this again. I do not remember the information about the new test format for each part, I do not know when the scores come out. I am like a new student with an old past. Please give me your advice on how and where I begin.   Free NINJA CPA Review Materials   Want to Study Less & Get Higher CPA Exam Scores? Episode 33 Questions: James - I have 18 months to retake and pass FAR, REG, and AUD. Do you recommend focusing on one section at a time until I can pass that section or rotate through sections so I don’t get burned out? Which section should I focus on first? Sara - My last score report for BEC showed I was only weak in the written communication portion of the exam. How do I improve in this area? Rose - Where do I find the motivation to work, study, and take care of my family while my spouse works? It has been a rough 2.5 years, and I’m exhausted. Do you have any advice? Jenny - Is if there is any real advantage to being licensed in the state in which one lives as long as it is not a job requirement? I’m a candidate in Indiana and recently moved to Iowa. I don’t want to pay the fees to transfer my license or take the ethics exam. I don’t think my employer will mind that I’m not licensed in the state. Is there anything that would make me want to pay the extra money to be licensed in Iowa? Hassan - I am studying for AUD, and my exam is coming up this month. I will not receive my video review materials until the mid of the month. Is there any way I can study and pass the exam the first time? Yim - I'm taking the exam in 2013 and interested in the NINJA Notes to study along with my 2010 review course material; however, I think there were lots of updates and changes since then. Do you think it is worth my money to purchase 2013 material from my review course? Elizabeth - The tragedy of the hurricane aside, the extension of the testing window presents me with a dilemma. Currently I am scheduled for November 29th. Should I take advantage of the extension and push my test back over another weekend or just buck up assume I am not going to increase my score by studying one more week and keep my exam on the 29th of November? Zubin - I graduated a year ago with a BS in accounting and have been working for a small startup for the past year. My career goal is to work for a CPA firm (big 4,regional, or local small firms). Do you think I should continue my work and pass the cpa exam and apply to firms after completion of all parts? Or should I go back to school for a Masters in Accounting and get another shot in the recruiting process? Ricky - I recently graduated and I have been having trouble finding a job due to what most accounting firms consider a low GPA. I would imagine it would be easier if I had some experience but it is hard to get experience when I cannot get a job in first place. I’m very disappointed because I thought I knew the information. Where do I go from here?   Lisa - I have taken AUD three times now. I don’t feel like I have time to rewrite the notes like I have on other sections. Do you have any advice for me?   Angela - REG is the last section I need to pass, but I have failed it three times now. Do you think a personal tutor would help me?   Samantha - I failed REG for the fourth time. My plan is to do more questions, take more notes, and focus on a few more areas. Is there anything else I should do?   Dury - I just graduated from college. My GPA wasn’t very good, and I have poor credit due to some large debts. Will these factors affect my chance of getting a job with a Big 4 company?   Richard - I have passed the CPA Exam, but I do not have enough hours working for a CPA to obtain my license. Do you have any suggestions for what I can do?   Mary - Can you give me some insight on how the FAR simulations are graded?   Pam - If I take a governmental accounting job, will I only be able to take jobs in the government sector in the future? Is it worth a score review?   Julian - I spent an entire year studying for FAR and failed with a 68. Should I change review courses and consider getting the Wiley online test bank?   Shawn - I failed REG, and I’m starting to study again. Should I rewrite my notes, or can I use my old notes for review?   Robert - I failed BEC twice after not doing any of the writing. I don’t have any grammar or writing training. Can I pass BEC without doing any writing, or should I take a writing course?   Lisa - Do the testlets get harder if you are doing well on the exam?   Jason - I’m studying for my third attempt at FAR. Do you think I should watch all 51 hours of lecture videos again? I don’t know if the videos help me as much as working MCQs.   Mike - I’m done with school and not working right now, but I’m finding it hard to study with so much time on my hands. Do you think I should get a job to help motivate me?   Astrid - I started the CPA Exam and passed FAR while living in Puerto Rico. I recently moved to New Jersey and wonder if I am eligible to sit in New Jersey. Do you have any advice?   Elizabeth - I wasn’t able to officially exit my exam and I'm worried that my score won’t be processed. I exited the written communication screen and was kicked out just prior to exiting the last screen. Is there a need to get the 2012 version, or has there not been that much of a change?   Stephanie - I'm studying for BEC, using a video review course and the NINJA method. I keep finding that the homework takes much longer than my course says and more than I have budgeted in my time to study each week. What is the best way to adequately prepare and stay within my study time limits?   Javier - Are the FAR simulations and long and difficult as the ones provided in review materials?   June - I just failed AUD for the fourth time. Is there a real difference between the letter or the memo format for this test?   Kelly - If I pass all four sections within the 18 months time span, is there a time requirement on how long you have to get your experience requirement as well? I have zero public accounting experience right now.   Otto - I won't be taking AUD until January while I finish my Bachelor’s Degree. How should I use my study time from now until then? My plan is to take AUD in January and then FAR in either February or April.   Blake - I passed AUD and FAR but failed REG after studying the same way for all three sections. I watched all the lectures, took notes, and answered all the Wiley book and online questions. What suggestions do you have to help me pass REG?   Jessica - I’ve heard that timing is key to start studying for the exam. Is there a good time of year to start studying?   Eric - I’ve taken all four sections and only passed AUD. Get it on iTunes. Caitlin - Financial is the last exam I need to pass. I have taken it 3 times now and have failed with a 68,66,66. I know the material. I honestly have no idea what to do differently. I bought new material and your notes and flashcards. I have one more chance to take Financial in July/August before I lose credit for audit. Do you have any advice at all?   Dan - For your NINJA Notes I was thinking of reviewing them a week before I take the exam. Do you recommend looking at the notes at the end of studying or as I am working through the material in my review course?   Aaron - I lose credit for one section on Oct 31. Do I have to take and receive a passing score for my last section before Oct 31 to keep credit on my first part or do I have to simply have to take the last section prior to Oct 31 and receive a passing grade when the scores are released in November?   Anastasia - What is your advice on restudying BEC when you receive a 74?   Emily - I am stuck in the group of people who always score between a 70 and a 73 for all of my exams. I just can't seem to break the 75, and I just don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestions?   Nick - For FAR, what journal entries are a must to memorize? I want to study for this exam right and get it on the first try.   Betsey - I have to take FAR and AUD, as well as retake REG by November, after failing with a 69. Is this possible? What should I do to prepare better? Right now, I am using a video review course with the Wiley books. Please help!   Mike - I recently sat for REG for a second time. The first time, I got a 73. I just received my second score this morning, a 74. Is it worth having the second score reviewed?   Mary - What do I do when I pretty much did everything you suggested and still failed the exam again? I spent about 46 hours per week studying. Do you have any idea what I may have done wrong?  CPA Reviewed – Podcast #24: 2 CPA Exam Sections in 1 Day? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Get it on iTunes. Emily - I am on my third attempt at FAR, and I am considering changing my review course and adding the Wiley test bank and your NINJA notes. Do I need to watch all of the videos again, or are the Wiley test bank and NINJA notes enough?   Will - I have passed FAR and REG. For AUD, I plan on studying a full eight weeks at about 25 hours a week. I have absolutely no Auditing experience and I have read a lot on the forum how much trouble others have had. Should I approach AUD the same way I have for the other two?   Salomon - I have been out of school for some years now and having trouble with grasping some of the materials, especially in relation to bonds and equities and consolidation. What do you recommend to help supplement for my study preparation that is cost effective and time effective? I need help specifically with the Financial part of the CPA Exam.   Marilyn - What should I do with study material from 2 years ago? Is it obsolete? Or should I use it?   Kyle - I'm a first time test taker. I am scoring 50-60% on the practice tests. It's making me want to give up before starting. Is this normal?   Ariadne - What's the best way to get a study group together? I think I need to be studying with people and talking about accounting stuff to get me over the 75 hump. Do you have any suggestions?   Mike - I passed the CPA exam. What is next? Should I go for anything else? Are there any more qualifications I should take?   Joyce - My question is on the "Intense Notes." What do you do when the lecturer starts reading directly from the book? I found myself furiously scribbling down notes directly from the book when that happens. Is that what you do?   Calvin - Is there a good method to do a research question on the FAR exam?   Sushma - I will be moving from New York to Texas. Can NASBA transfer my papers from the NY board to the Texas board? Will I still get licensed if i worked in NY, but took the exam in Texas?   Curtis - After being out of school for around 10 years now I've decided to follow my degree path and obtain my CPA designation. Being so far removed from tax and audit, will the material in the reviews be sufficient to refresh and pass?   Michael - If you HAD to take any 2 sections of the CPA exam on the SAME day....which 2 would you choose?   Vis - My plan is to purchase a prep course in the fall when my last class starts for my MS in accounting. I'm sure that I can handle one class and a CPA prep course. Will my material be out of date because I will only be able to take two exams before the end of the year?   Kevin - In the NINJA study framework, when you say nail the videos do you mean watch ALL of the lecture videos first and then do multiple choice?
