Sids Ahky, Author, SIDS Survivor, and Advocate for DV Survivors | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:00

Domestic violence (DV) is a form of violence by a partner(s) against another partner(s) in an intimate relationship. It is recognized as an important social problem by governmental & non-governmental agencies. Victimization from domestic violence transcends the boundaries of gender & sexual orientation, with significant percentages of LGBT couples facing these issues. Men are subject to domestic violence in large numbers but they are less likely to be physically hurt than female victims. Social & economically disadvantaged groups in the US regularly face worse rates of domestic violence than other groups. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death or crib death, is the sudden unexplained death of a child less than 1 year of age. Diagnosis requires that the death remains unexplained even after a thorough autopsy & detailed death scene investigation. SIDS usually occurs during sleep. Typically, death occurs between midnight & 9:00 am. There is usually no evidence of struggle and no noise produced. The exact cause of SIDS is unknown. The requirement of a combination of factors including a specific underlying susceptibility, a specific time in development, and an environmental stressor has been proposed. SIDS makes up about 80% of Sudden and Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUIDs), with other causes including infections, genetic disorders, & heart problems. Grief support for families impacted by SIDS is important, as the death of the infant is sudden, without witnesses, & often associated with an investigation

Nicky Carara, a Missionary in Her Jamaica Homeland, Shares Her Testimony | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:02:00

From Nicky's Facebook page: "So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body” (Ephesians 4:25 NLT, 2nd ed.). Lasting change requires honest, authentic community. You need people in your life who will tell you the truth in love. There are some things in your life you will never change without the help of others. You may be so embarrassed by certain issues in your life that you won’t talk about them with anyone. But how well has that strategy worked for you? If you could change your life on your own, you would have already done it. You can’t! You need to stop lying to yourself. If you want to change, you will need other people to help you. You will need to be in gut-level, authentic community. This is why small groups are so important. But you need more than just a small group. You need one person within that group with whom you can be completely open & honest. You don’t have to open up to everyone, but you need to open up to someone. God wired us in a way that we need each other, but that means we cannot get rid of our bad habits & hang-ups on our own. You can’t do it alone, because God made you to need other people. The Bible says, “So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body” (Ephesians 4:25 NLT, 2nd ed.). If you’re a believer, you belong to the Body of Christ. You belong to other believers. You were not made to live the Christian life alone. You can’t do it. If you’re serious about changing the deepest, darkest defects in your life, you have to overcome the fear of being honest. We waste an enormous amount of energy trying to cover up our sins, our hurts, our hang-ups, & our defects. Visit Nicky at: http://bit.ly/2iNbMzl

Dr. Jasmine Zapata Wears Many Hats: Author, Entrepreneur, with Room for More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:00

Dr. Jasmine Zapata (Dr. JZ), a Dynamic Author, Physician, Inspirational Speaker, Entrepreneur, Former Collegiate Athlete, & Health Empowerment Educator, is on a mission to heal, uplift, & inspire. Having received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2013, Dr. JZ completed her Pediatric Adolescent Medicine certification in 2016. On top of all that, she's completing her Master’s in Public Health & Preventive Medicine, a dual medical certification.  As a medical doctor, she specializes in the fields of both pediatrics preventive medicine/public health & her overall focus is looking for ways to get outside the clinic walls to impact health outcomes on a community based level. Her research focuses on healthy birth outcomes & racial disparities in infant mortality among African American women. Given the life-threatening birth of her daughter related to complications of extreme prematurity, this is a topic near & dear to Dr. JZ's heart. Another true passion of Dr. JZ’s highlighting the link between poverty & poor health outcomes & working on ways to decrease disparities related to that area. Interestingly, one of the biggest social determinants of health outcomes is economic stability & for this reason Dr. JZ got involved in real estate as a means to achieve personal financial freedom & help others do the same. Dr. JZ's excited to be a co-author of She Conquered, a collaboration project to further spread the message & inspire others to continue reaching for their dreams no matter what obstacles come their way!  Visit Dr. Jasmine Zapata at www.DrJasmineZapata.com or on Facebook.

Panel of Female Co-authors Who Conquered Their Battle to Greatness, Part II | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:00

Tonight's show is the rescheduled show that was cancelled due to technical difficulties. In their book, She Conquered, that Lenise R. Williams, Esq., was able to compile, you will find a collection of ladies who wrote stories about how they overcame adversity, faced their fears, and conquered entrepreneurship. Their stories are of women who have faced disappointment, financial hardships, divorce, being a single parent, lack of support, prison sentences, battles with cancer, and more. They continued to push and achieve their dreams. Their strength? All the things that were meant to deter them only made them stronger. Their stories were written to inspire, educate, and help women rise to shine. Firm believers that women who may think that it's too late or there are too many obstacles to overcome will find strength from their stories, stories about ordinary women, no different from the people that you may know. Their stories explore the lives of women who decided to live outside of the box despite what they were told. These ladies have all faced different obstacles in their hometowns across the United States. Despite their differences, they share several things in common: being passionate, laser-focused, having a strong commitment to build successful businesses, and living a life that they LOVE. Because their stories will ignite a fire in women who are sitting on the sidelines watching others achieve their dreams, you're encouraged to get your copy of She Conquered by visiting  www.SheConqueredBook.com/.
