Human beings are creatures of habit. We cling to traditions and rituals because they're comfortable and familiar. But when it comes to our relationship with God, it's important to sift through religious traditions and realize which ones come from Scripture and which ones don't. In order to grow in our spiritual walk with Him, we've got to figure out the "non-negotiables" -- and then let go of the rest so He can do His work in us and through us.

We often go through experiences that make us think we can't have joy in this life. Sin holds us back from experiencing all that God has for us. But the truth is that because of Jesus, we're offered unspeakable joy that lasts not only through this temporary life, but for all of eternity!

God gives us one life to build while we're on this earth. The question is: what are we building that life out of? We can either construct it with "wood and straw" -- temporary building materials that'll ultimately be burned up in the end -- or we can build it with eternity in mind, so on the day we see Jesus face-to-face, we can present Him with a life of lasting reward that was lived for Him.

When Jesus died on the cross, He took upon Himself the entire sin of humanity, and He offered Himself up as a perfect sacrifice to God. Because of Him, we can be made clean and righteous in God's eyes. But in order to receive this gift, we first have to "RSVP". What's our response going to be?

Jesus told His disciples that when they followed Him, He'd make them fishers of men. But the same promise applies to us today. If we're following Jesus, we'll be fishing for men just like the disciples did, and our lives will serve as a witness to others because we won't be able to keep the work He's doing in us a secret!

There's a story in the Bible about three men who were thrown into fire for refusing to bow down to the king of Babylon. But instead of being afraid, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted that God would deliver them from the flames. They serve as an example that no matter what danger we face, God's got a plan -- either to deliver us from it, or deliver us in it.

The biggest decision we'll ever face is choosing whether to follow Christ or reject Him. The choice we make not only shapes our temporary life here on earth, but it determines where we spend our eternal life -- forever. There's a very real Heaven and a very real Hell, but the only way to experience abundant life after death is by giving ourselves to Jesus and chasing after Him.

We're all afraid of something. But the Bible tells us that when God's in us, there's nothing to fear! When He calls us to do something, He'll equip us to do it, too. So what do we need to do to face our fears and live in His spirit of power and love?
