Download Podcast The 1963 March on Washington was one of the largest public demonstrations in the history of the United States. While often described as being a mix of Black and Whites participating, observers estimated that 75–80% of the marchers were Black and the rest were non-black. The march is said to have helped pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 2013, the United States Supreme Court struck down Section 4(b) of the Act, which contained the coverage formula that determined which states and local jurisdictions are subject to Section 5 preclearance as unconstitutional. Black Autonomy Federation Radio will critically analyze the historic march which took place 50 years ago on Wednesday, August 28, 1963.

Tonight we want to inform you about the "2nd Annual Let’s Organize the ‘Hood Black Power Conference" which will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, next Saturday on June 8. The conference will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Little Theater of the Alma C. Hanson Student Center at LeMoyne-Owen College, 807 Walker Ave. in Memphis. A $5 donation is requested.
