 Ten Forward:Episode 24: Book Club Destiny Book 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:04

This week it's book club time and Sina & Michael are joined by Literary Treks Matt Rushing as we discuss the second book in the Destiny Trilogy: Mere Mortals by David Mack. Our Thoughts:This is a great book. The story continues at a good pace with the fate of the whole Alpha Quadrant in the balance. Again as in Book one Mack continues to thread together stories from across the Star Trek universe towards it's conclusion in book three. We all agreed that we enjoyed the interaction / story between Dax & Picard while not too keen on the Titan story with its secondary characters. Matt & Sina were able to pull Michael round to their way of thinking towards the way Picard is portrayed and that the book is indeed not padding. David Mack manages to show the horrors of war unlike anything seen in Star Trek before and keeps the adrenaline flowing with some great battle scenes with the Hirogen. The Final Verdict: An extremely well written book that was enjoyed by all the hosts. We thoroughly recommend it.

Ten Forward:Episode 19: Night of the living Trekkies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:56:40

This week it's book club time and Sina is joined by Stolen Droids podcaster Carl Stark as they review 'Night of the Living Trekkies' by Kevin David Anderson. Our Thoughts:  Carl and Sina definitely liked this book.  Carl, who is an uber zombie and Star Trek fan, was in heaven with the mashup of the genres. Sina, who greatly dislikes horror and brain eating zombies, nevertheless appreciated the author's Star Trek knowledge and Star Trek inside jokes that are present throughout the book.  There are enough Star Trek references to make the typical Star Trek fan happy, and sufficient zombie killing and blood and guts (literally) to keep the zombie fans reading through the book.  Sina did not like the (***spoiler***) deaths of some of the characters the reader gets to know, but understands that in the horror genre, only a few survive. The Final Verdict:  An enjoyable, easy read with lots of fun for both zombie and Star Trek fans.

Ten Forward:Episode 15: Book Club Destiny Gods Of Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:42:10

This week on Ten Forward, barkeeps Sina and Matt chat with guest host Michael Clark about Book 1 of the Destiny Trilogy: Gods of Night. We also discuss a bit of news and read your emails about Anthony's controversial opinions. Join us as we talk books and more books! Our Thoughts:  We really enjoyed this book. It is fast paced and very well written. It discusses many stories (four captains and four ships), has lots of character moments in spite of all the action, has a view of Federation politics, and contains a blend of familiar favorites and new faces. The book has both poignant moments as well as all out battles against Borg cubes. David Mack is able to tie many threads from many series together to bring about a cohesive, exciting book that keeps you turning the pages. An excellent beginning to a three book trilogy that entices you to come back for more. The Final Verdict: An extremely well written book that was enjoyed by all the hosts. We thoroughly recommend it.

Ten Forward:Episode 11: Book Club: Borg And Babies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:00

In this week’s episode we are joined by Carl Stark as we continue our book club, there's almost no news this week but we do of course make time for your emails. Our Thoughts:  There were several aspects that we enjoyed about the book.  We liked the idea of the new life form that spanned the entire star system, and its slip stream method.  We enjoyed meeting some of the new senior officers and the call backs to previous episodes.  We got to see Hugh again!  We liked the battle sequences too.  However, the book seemed to drag:  there were too many staff meetings, too many people talking, at times too much introspection.  Additionally, T'Ryssa Chen, the new Contact Specialist, was pretty annoying to most of us, and Picard was a bit depressing.  The ending hit us in the solar plexus!  Everything that the Enterprise E crew did in the book was ruined! The Final Verdict:  Overall, a decent book but not fantastic.
