Impact of Dion Wiley's Injury, Exhibition Game Recap, Xfinity Beer Situation, College Park Bar Talk | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:57

Today on Red Shell Radio, CT, Dan, Eric and Matt convene in the SVP Lounge to discuss a sad Saturday for the Maryland Terrapins that featured a loss to Wisconsin, Trevon Diggs committing to Alabama and news that Dion Wiley would be out for the year with a torn meniscus. Plus: an exhibition game recap, the beer situation at Xfinity Center, Looney's is horribly laid out and Bentley's is charging $15 for cover these days.  Topics discussed include: Saturday was a bad day for Terrapin sports Football loses its sixth straight game Looked good in the first half, came unraveled in the second Dammit, Ross brothers Dion Wiley tears his meniscus, out for the year Pointing to the Terps depth is what most will do, but this is a big loss Trevon Diggs commits to Alabama, who can blame him? The way Maryland underutilized Stefon Diggs, had no quarterback during his time in College Parks, cost him a lot of money. The Diggs family bridge to Maryland is effectively burned. Other schools using Stefon Diggs against the Terps in recruiting, "how'd it work out for him?" Brad Craddock has surgery on his hand, might never see him play for Maryland again The impact of Dion Wiley's loss on the Terps' lineups, starting and how the guards change roles as Melo Trimble goes in and out of the game This more or less ensures Jake Layman will be playing exclusively at the three Anthony Cowan and Kevin Huerter sign their letters of intent CT not going to the the Mount Saint Mary's or Georgetown games Dan gives the rundown on the beer situation at Xfinity Looney's is a horribly laid out bar Bentley's charged a $15 cover on Saturday night. What a joke Dan summarizes the exhibition game Diamond Stone gets the start, leads the Terps in scoring in limited minutes Ivan Bender sighting

Today in the SVP Lounge, CT, Dan and Matt kick off their fourth basketball season doing Red Shell Radio by previewing the much-hyped 2015/16 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team. They answer a slew of BURNING questions about the squad, running down nearly every guy on the roster and dishing out HOT takes during this monstrous preview podcast. Topics discussed include: Hey guys it’s basketball season! We’re pumped! Mark Turgeon from the HOT SEAT to the DRIVER SEAT Entering the season, the biggest concern I have about this team is __________ Expectations could be a problem, Dan wants to be a top Ken Pomeroy rankings team Romelo Trimble is the Big Ten preseason player of the year. Does he end up winning the actual award? Obvz, Melo is the most important player on the team. Hopefully he doesn’t have to shoulder the bulk of the scoring work. Does his time at the Pan Am games affect his game? How confident are you in Jaylen Brantley’s ability to effectively back-up Melo Trimble at the point guard position? He needs to take the ball up the court and spell Melo for 8-10 minutes Dan will wear one of CT’s dirty t-shirts if Brantley plays more than 10 minutes a game Is Rasheed Sulaimon the missing link? How does he fill the void left by Dez Wells? The pod is excited about the fact that Sulaimon is a turncoat The Terps have an embarrassment of riches in the front court Diamond Stone has the luxury of progressing and not needing to perform immediately with Damonte Dodd and Michal Cekovsky If there’s one thing Turgeon knows how to do, it's develop big men. All three of those guys could play well What are the line-ups going to look like? Are they going big all the time? What will they look like when they go small? Does Jake Layman emerge as a great, everyday player? Or will he continue to drift in and out of games? Out of all the Mark Turgeon castaway’s that left the program following the 2013-14 season, who will have the best year? The worst? CT hopes Nick Faust is junk out at Long Beach State Which member of the show will make the biggest fool of themselves before/during/after the Princeton game in Baltimore Does Dion Wiley emerge as a viable third guard or is he still another year away from being consistent? Will Robert Carter be the second best player on the team? Don’t we always hear this about the transfer who sat out last season? The guys share what they’ve been drinking throughout the show Mark Turgeon is the star in this puzzle, but has the tough task of figuring out how to properly utilize nine to ten guys How is this team’s mindset different from Turgeon's early disaster squads Dan wishes Turgeon would have the team play faster, zone defense -- both have been effective at getting us back into games Don’t forget about Jared Nickens! Bench talk with Varun Ram, Kurt Auslander and Ivan Bender Hot takes to end the show

Let's hope they're frisky for a half? You can probably listen to the podcast at this time in years prior and we'll have the same defeated attitude about football Eric tries to spin things positively  Stefon Diggs is the hero in the Minnesota Vikings game, his wink at the camera after the touchdown is the NFL's version of the shimmy Terps land at #3 in the first Associated Press poll No reason is be rankled. They haven't played any games, there's a lot of question marks and they got blown out in the second round of the NCAA tournament last year Maryland has plenty of chances to prove themselves in the first quarter of the season with Georgetown, North Carolina and UConn on the schedule Exhibition game on Friday CT and Eric have friends in town for Homecoming What was everyone for Halloween? CT was mustard, Dan was a carrot, tries to pay for his drinks at the bar with a bag of carrots Eric predicts the Terps will go 1-3 in football to end the season, with a win over Indiana Dan predicts the basketball team will lose at home before CT makes it to Xfinity Center

A game that you truly were vested in the outcome? For at least one Saturday this year, football was fun Maryland had plenty of opportunities to win this game, couldn’t get it done Stings to lose to James Franklin Eric says the tailgating scene was awesome, Penn State heavy. The inside of the stadium was 50/50 and there were fights! The early turnovers were killer Secondary got bombed by Christian Hackenberg — long ball repeatedly killed the Terps Perry Hills had five turnovers, some how made them less backbreaking than Caleb Rowe would have Talking about five turnovers as an improvement shows how ugly things really are Will Likely and Shane Cockerille make appearances. Eric says Cockerille’s appearances remind him of Josh Portis showing up to run the option  Penn State strikes twice right before the half to go up 17-14 Terps have two nice, long touchdown drives in the third quarter — Another sign of progress The guys grasp at moral straws Dan hopes that the loss puts to rest any Mike Locksley for head coach talk Terps had multiple chances to take the lead back and win the game in the 4th quarter. Defense hung tough, giving the ball back to the offense multiple times, but the offense couldn’t hold up their end of the deal Defensive line played really well Firing Randy Edsall midseason was a good call, brings a different dynamic to the team Can Maryland hang with Iowa? CT and Eric don’t think it’s that crazy Eric’s a secret Iowa fan, fills the guys in on the undefeated team The Hawkeyes dodged a bullet in missing the B1G East’s big three, could end the regular season undefeated CT and Matt talk to a guy with inside knowledge on the coaching search and conclude no one knows anything Dan shows off his basketball season ticket booklet Ken Pomeroy has Maryland ranked at No. 24 in his preseason rankings, Terp fans need to settle down Stefon Diggs has a great day for the Vikings, makes one of the catches of the year

Projecting the turnout among both fan bases  First game for Mike Locksley as head coach, hopefully will they come out with energy as they did against Ohio State Also hoped for improved play calling and that Perry Hills can be effective, again, with his legs How does everyone feel about Penn State? Certainly one of the “winnable” games left on the schedule Last week’s argument about who made the game-saving tackle on Ricky Dobbs in the 2010 Navy game at M&T Bank settled The Solid Verbal’s Ty Hildenbrant joins the guys in the SVP Lounge to talk Maryland-Penn State Ty gives the Penn State perspective on the Maryland-Penn State rivalry, says Rutgers tweaks Nittany Lion fans  CT and Ty commiserate on fall weddings and how in your late 20s they can bog down your fall and football season Dan breaks down the scale of delusion overrating or underrating the Maryland football job Would you take Lane Kiffin or roll the dice on the field? Exploring the theory that Greg Schiano hires people to talk him up online for head coaching jobs Ty’s thoughts on handshake-gate from last year’s game Year two of the James Franklin era: Ty is a fan of James Franklin the recruiter, not the strategic mind There are three schools of thought when it comes to the head coaching position at Penn State Ty’s soured on Christian Hackenberg, he only threw the ball 12 times last week Penn State plays good defense, defensive line will cause problems for Maryland’s offensive line Saquon Barkley is a serious threat on the ground Game predictions Any regrets you didn’t go to Magic Maryland Madness? Dan calls out CT for the negative episode title last week Die hard fans would enjoy an actual midnight practice Robert Carter is looking “chiseled,” Ceko looks ripped as well Just when you think you can’t love Scott Van Pelt any more, he'll host SportsCenter at the Xfinity Center after Maryland-Georgetown Terps land at No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches poll — Do you care where they’re ranked?  Randy Edsall OUT as Terps Head Coach, Too Little Too Late Vs Ohio State, Don't Go To Maryland Madness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:29

Today in the SVP Lounge, CT, Dan, Eric and Matt convene to talk about Randy Edsall’s firing as Maryland head football coach. Plus: Outlook on the rest of the season, a Kenny Tate/Adrian Moten argument, don’t go to Magic Maryland Madness and more.   Topics discussed include: Randy Edsall OUT as Maryland football head coach, Mike Locksley named the interim head coach Did you really believe it when the Jeff Ermann dropped the news that Edsall would be fired following the Ohio State game? Thoughts on how Kevin Anderson handled the situation, from the news leak to the press conference The Terps go out and play hard against Ohio State before the Buckeyes pulled away half way through the first quarter Had to be excited after that first score, at least a little bit, right? The guys agree that even if the Terps had beaten Ohio State that Maryland would have fired Edsall anyway You could tell by the play calling that Randy knew this was it Perry Hills rushing the ball is what kept Maryland in the game, he’s probably going to be the starter going forward The wide receivers have been garbage Matt, again, wants Brad Craddock to punt The guys speak highly about Hills’ performance, but that doesn’t mean they’re high on Hills Most of Locksley’s more successful offenses have come with mobile quarterbacks, so expect to see more of Perry Hills using his legs Randy storms out of the press conference after a dumb first question. Weird way to see him go out What’s the outlook for the rest of the season? Does anything really change? What’s Locksley’s status if he starts winning games? Should Maryland’s next head coach try and retain him in some capacity? How would you recruit high schoolers to Maryland? CT would go the Louisville-hooker route Saying goodbye to Randy Edsall. What were the high points of his tenure? They’re limited How will the openings at Southern California and South Carolina affect Maryland’s coaching search? Early head coaching candidates? Season is going to have to play out for any progress to be made on this front. Hooray weeks of baseless speculation! CT thinks that Greg Schiano hires people to throw his name into coaching searches. Nobody wants him, yet his name always comes up Penn State kick off set for 3:30 The guys debate whether it was Kenny Tate or Adrian Moten who made the 4th-and-goal tackle on Navy’s Ricky Dobbs back in the 2010 opener Magic Maryland Madness is Saturday. He’s the list of guys from the podcast attending: Do anything but go to Magic Maryland Madness The pod continues to debate Moten vs. Tate CBS Sports releases their 101 top college basketball players heading into the 2015-16 season

The guys are bummed there won’t be another night game this year Eric says environment was sad on Saturday, tons of perfectly nice Michigan fans taking over Byrd Stadium Dan says Yannick Ngakoue is the only player on the team worthy of snaps The wide receivers have been super disappointing  Remember when the entire offensive line laid down? Caleb Rowe throws three interceptions, could’ve had five Daxx Garman comes in and looks completely lost — CT things is particularly damning of the coaching staff The guys talk Ohio State. They’re the No. 1 team in the country and it feels like they’ve got 99 problems Urban Meyer doesn’t mention Maryland once in his Monday press conference, opposing fans don’t even talk shit Meyer has more to worry about with his own team than their opponent Ohio State’s struggled in nearly all of their games this year, sad to think they won’t with the Terps CT is going to San Francisco, visiting Alcatraz on his birthday. They guys recap their double date on Saturday night, discuss a typical Randy Edsall blow out at the hands of the Mountaineers, what it would actually take to replace him, preview Michigan and recap CT’s outing to TGIFriday’s Endless Appetizers.    Topics discussed include: CT and Matt go a double date, their girlfriends now do a “are you buying me a dog” bit to annoy them Realized that they never spoke of the Maryland-West Virginia football game throughout their entire evening out Terps lose to the Mountaineers 46-6 The entire fan base has come around the cul de sac and everyone’s done with Randy Edsall West Virginia has dominated Maryland for the last 8 years The game with Matt with a lot of questions. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?  Q: What Randy Edsall disaster does this remind you of? A: All of the them! As terrible as the offense was, the defense was even more atrocious  Edsall’s teams never ever come out energized Looking ahead to potential wins, taking 2 or 3 more games is going to be a fight. The next few games will tell us a lot about this team Brandon Ross is the lone bright spot, has a nice game Caleb Rowe vs. Daxx Garman starting — Don’t worry it doesn’t matter much CT throws out the idea of having Perry Hills grind things out, Matt shoots it down. Defense is getting shredded, duh What would it take to actually get rid of Randy Edsall? From a football and fan perspective it makes sense, but there’s much more to it The guys walk through the other parties involved in hiring and firing football coaches and the politics that come with it CT and Matt are concerned if logistically the university could do a good job at hiring a coach Firing Edsall would be a blow to Kevin Anderson’s ego We could still see Edsall back again next year. Maryland’s afraid of the rebuild The whole Byrd Stadium-name controversy only makes things more annoying The guys don’t care at all — More offended by the football team CT is bummed out he’s missing the tailgate on Saturday Terps are +16 underdogs to Michigan in their token night game of the year, sure to be a flood of opposing fans Previewing the Michigan Wolverines The guys feel like Michigan looks ahead of schedule in Jim Harbaugh’s first year, but still seem a little overinflated. They played bad teams in UNLV and Oregon State, as well as a beaten down BYU squad Maryland could compete, though, they are really good at getting their doors blown off Offense is run heavy, Jake Rudock looks to be improving Defense is strong, experienced CT details his SECOND experience with TGIFriday’s Endless Appetizers Pro tip: Avoid the potato skins For his last plate, CT tried the peanut butter and jelly boneless buffalo wings — They were gross What’s the turnout going to be for Saturday?

Matt says no, Maryland is not as bad as they were in the second half, this is standard Terrapins operating procedure  Eric recounts the the offense’s struggles in the first half, everyone agrees no need to read into Rowe’s interceptions Matt thinks people underestimate the consequences of blowing things up with Edsall, Eric thinks it doesn’t matters and that keeping Edsall prolongs the mediocrity Eric now fiercely anti-Edsall, anti-Locksley What’s the low point of Edsall’s tenure? Matt says easily his first season when he took a 9-4 team and turn it into a 2-10 team. Eric says the Bowling Green is it for him Eric makes his case to fire Edsall, Matt argues the time to hire him is long gone Eric totally melts down at the end of the show What to expect when the Terps take the field against South Florida Tailgating plans for the weekend, they don’t get out there as early as they used to

The program can’t move forward without firing Randy, but to move forward you also need Haskins — who is tied to Randy It’s tough five years in and not see a whole lot of progress. The Bowling Green is among the two worsts losses of Randy’s tenure Maryland is a -7.5 point favorite over South Florida Randy makes a change at quarterback, Caleb Rowe is the new starter It’s maddening that Rowe wasn’t name the starter initially, also maddening Randy hasn’t recruited a quarterback in five years There is still time to turn it around! Maryland basketball has a big time visitor in five star recruit Wenyen Gabriel, CT spots him leaving after the first quarter What kind of impression do you think he got from the football game? Sounds like the visit went well Dan had several ideas that have turned into real-world products. He claims he thought of Snuggies in the 7th grade, recently found k-cup soups and claimed he thought of that years ago
