This month's DJ Mag Canada podcast gets taken over by New Verona Records founder, Invalyd. Already supported by Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Cosmic Gate, Invalyd began his journey into electronic music after a show at Toronto's dance mecca, The Guvernment,"I first got into dance music about 6 or 7 years ago when I was still living in Toronto. I was actually into production long before that though, as I did a college program in audio engineering. After I hit my first "rave" (I believe it was Ferry Corsten at Guvernment) and dove headfirst into the scene, it was a natural next step for me to begin producing my own tracks", Invalyd told me. The San Francisco based producer cites Laidback Luke as a huge influence and his favourite producer at the moment, with this mix being similar to something the Dutch DJ would craft, "I'd have to say Laidback Luke. His productions have an amazing energy and continuously blow me away, but more so, his positive attitude and lack of ego are a rare treat in this business. Having built a solid foundation for their music in Canada, the two brothers Antoine & Gio pooled together almost 10 years ago and formed their label, Eyezcream Recordings; their own imprint that brought through the likes of an early Axwell & Steve Angello. The label exploded onto the scene with a string of releases from the discovery of Canadian superhero of funk, Dave Armstrong. That summer “Make Your Move” earned a “gold record” for Eyezcream and pushed the label to new heights with every major label looking at Redroche for licensing new material. The years that followed have been a catalyst for Redroche’s career as credible & established producers. The discovery of Estelle’s little sister, H-Boogie who provided vocals for the Redroche single “Love Has Gone”. The track was a highly successful, number 1 chart topping, top 40 release all around the globe; licensed to over fifteen countries worldwide. The video was spectacular with over a million views on YOUTUBE in over a couple of months, in addition to becoming a top ten on all MTV dance video shows. This certainly put a spot light on Redroche and finally getting the attention and massive support from superstar DJ’s, top radio jocks and producers alike. As well as achieving ‘Gold’ status on Eyezcream, Redroche’s original material is today signed under multiple license deals to major labels globally with official music videos seeing repeat MTV airplay. Their solid foundation in Canada has seen Redroche gain support from the world’s elite producers including Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sebastien Leger, Pete Tong, Lifelike, Mark Knight for every release. A steady stream of Redroche originals and high profile remixes has since seen the brothers take on remix duty for Erick Morillo, Avicii, Robyn, Alanis Morisette, The Young Punx, Kelis, Afrojack, Benny Benassi & many more. Fast forward to 2011 and this year has been one of Redroche’s biggest; seeing the duo remix UK #1 single, DJ Fresh, ‘Louder’ (Ministry of Sound), Olav Basoski “New Day” (Defected), Chris Lake & Marco Lys “Running Out” (Rising), Fast Eddie’s “Believe N Sex” (Black Hole), Quivver, Bootik, Fast Eddie and they are currently in the studio doing production work for pop giants Chris Brown & Twista. Two major Redroche single releases are currently out on multiple label licenses including Blanco Negro/We Play/Vdisco/Nu Age Music/Discowax/Sony/Energy Music/Scorpio in Europe and more new original Redroche material is set for release in 2011 around ADE conference with material that will lead towards Redroche’s first artist album. 2011 was a great year for Producer/DJ and Burner Records co-founder, Paul David. His remixes and original productions turned heads in the global dance music scene and received enthusiastic support from mainstream outlets such as Mixmag, Hypemachine and world-renowned DJ’s like Dj Chuckie, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sander Kleinenberg, Markus Shulz and BBC Radio 1 Dj Kissy Sell Out. Paul David’s EP “Sunset Electric” sat at #3 on the Juno Download charts and landed in the Top 100 on Beatport. Honing his skills as a producer and live PA, Paul has played clubs across Canada and the U.K. at festivals such as the World Electronic Music Festival and Edgefest, culminating in a personal invitation to play the Detroit Electronic Music Festival by Detroit dance music pioneer, Carl Craig. Paul’s original productions consistently blow minds, while his DJ sets have people forgetting themselves on the dance floor. Scott James didn’t always know he wanted to make dance music. A Calgary native who spent more of his youth on a lacrosse field than on a dance floor, Scott’s journey to the studio has taken many twists and turns along the way. Since discovering the art of DJ’ing in 2006, James has been honing his skills as a resident of Montreal’s famous Circus afterhours, an institution that he is quick to credit as one of the driving forces behind his personal development as an artist. In 2013, James is spending most of his time in the studio, developing a signature sound that he describes as dark, but progressive. DJ/producer duo Project 46 made an undeniable impact on the progressive house scene this year, on a meteoric rise that started when their breakthrough Monstercat release Reasons featuring vocals by Andrew Allen went straight past Tiesto to the #1 overall spot on Beatport.
