My two favorite versions are by the Nashville Bluegrass Band and Dwight Diller. I love the lyrics as sung by NBB.

John Lusk was a Tennessee fiddler born in 1889 and grandson of a slave who had been sent to New Orleans to learn fiddle. John played with two family members and was recorded by the Library of Congress first in the 1940's. Apple Blossom feels like a square dance tune.

Played in clawhammer style but added the guitar-(bass-) line as a midi file through TablEdit because I didn't have a bass player ;-) Tab available on the "Learn"-page.

From the 2006 CD "On The Edge" by The Cliffhangers. The players are Mark Simos, fiddle; Brendan Doyle (me), banjo; Jody Platt, tenor guitar; Rusty Neithammer, guitar; Karen Falkowski, bass. We learned it from the playing of George Mert Reves.

Famous fiddler Kenny Baker played Freda and Carthy Sisco (b. 1921), originally from Arkansas and later from Washington state, played his version of Freda. Carthy played lots of Kenny Baker tunes. Here I combine the two.
