The Politics of Breastfeeding | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

Tonights show is a follow up to last weeks show on the IMPORTANCE OF SEEING NURSING IN PUBLIC. We honored to welcome back Emma Kwasnica tonight of Organizer of Human Milk for Human Babies. We will be discussing how all over the world women are impeded from protecting their own and their babies’ health, and often survival, because of factors beyond their control. Why, after about a million years of survival, has one of the principal evolutionary characteristics by which we identify ourselves as mammals become so damaged? I hope you will join us!

Why SEEING Breastfeeding is Important | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

On tonights show I will be talking to Emma Kwasnica the Montreal-based mother and breast-feeding activist, organizer of human milk for human babies.Human Milk 4 Human Babies (HM4HB) is a global network represented by community pages for each state/province/country. These pages provide a space where families in need can connect with women who have milk to share. HM4HB affirms that human milk is the biological norm for human infants and children. HM4HB does not support the sale of human milk. In light of the horrendous disasters in Japan, we are seeing how formula can fail a society when clean water is not readily available. Tonight we will be discussing the importance of SEEING other women nursing and how it can help NORMALIZE/MAINSTREAM nursing your baby. The more we hide it away[breastfeeding], classify it as obscene, shame mothers into covering up while feeding, and encourage women to retire to "private" rooms in order to breastfeed the baby, the less we see of it in public, and the less and less people are comfortable with the very idea of nursing in public. This is the sad reality, in this pathologically hyper-sexualized (yet sexually repressed...) North American culture of ours.

The Self Worth Project | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:00

Tommy Corey will be my guest as we discuss THE SELF WORTH PROJECT.This humanitarianism project really brings peoples attention to all of the recent suicides. This is a project to let everyone know we are all the same and no one deserved to be broken down because of race, religion, body type, or life decision. God loves us and we should reflect that love onto our brothers and sisters. he Self-Worth Project's popularity is proof that feelings of insecurity are universal. Only a month old, the Project's Facebook page has over 4,000 friends, and growing. Tommy has accepted invitations to photograph subjects at Chico's Stonewall Alliance Center and is working on funding to take the project to Humboldt, Seattle and San Francisco. He would like to someday compile the images into a book to benefit non-profit organizations.

How to Start Welcoming Your Girl Into Womanhood | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

A pioneer in Menstrual Empowerment, DeAnna L’am is a recognized world expert in helping women and girls make coming-of-age easier, and womanhood richer. Like many women, DeAnna struggled with PMS and for many years viewed her period as a bother and a nuisance. In 1992 she began a personal journey toward embracing her monthly cycle, which led her to “reverse the curse!” Having already been a trained coach and facilitator at the time, she called her first Menstrual Empowerment circle in 1994. The response was overwhelming, and the journey embarked upon — profound. In 1995 DeAnna coined the term ‘INNER MAIDEN’ as a result of recognizing the deep need in all women for soothing, healing, and reclaiming the adolescent girl within, who may have never been welcomed into womanhood. In Israel/ Palestine, her country of origin, DeAnna helped Jewish and Palestinian women surpass political, religious, and cultural differences by deeply bonding as cycling women. Since founding ‘Red Moon’ in 1994, DeAnna has been teaching nationally and internationally, empowering women to reclaim menstruation as source of inner guidance and spiritual renewal; coaching Moms in welcoming their coming-of-age daughters into womanhood with ease and comfort, and training women to hold Red Tents in their communities. DeAnna is author of Becoming Peers – Mentoring Girls Into Womanhood and creator of The M.A.D.E.N. Acts - 5 Steps To Making Coming Of Age easier, And Womanhood Richer!

SO SEXY SO SOON PART II | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:56:00

Tonight is part II of our II part show on the sexualization of our children. Tonight of my guest is Melissa Wardy of Pigtail Pals- Redefine Girly offers empowering products for girls (and girls at heart) that encourage girls to be smart, daring, and adventurous. Created by a mom who believes our daughters need to SEE and GROW with images of girls in action and achievement. Our Topic So Sexy So Soon is based on how constantly, American children are exposed to a barrage of sexual images in television, movies, music and the Internet. They are taught young that buying certain clothes, consuming brand-name soft drinks and owning the right possessions will make them sexy and cool—and being sexy and cool is the most important thing. Young men and women are spoon-fed images that equate sex with violence, paint women as sexually subservient to men and encourage hooking up rather than meaningful connections. The result is that kids are having sex younger and with more partners than ever before. Eating disorders and body image issues are common as early as grade school. There is nothing wrong with a young person's natural sexual awakening, but it is wrong to allow a young person's sexuality to be hijacked by corporations who want them as customers. We will talk about how parents can limit children's exposure to commercialized sex, and how parents can engage kids in constructive, age-appropriate conversation about sex and the media.
