Today my guest is Cyd Ropp. she has a Ph.D. in rhetorical Theory and Criticism from the University of Memphis. Today we will talk about the differences between midwifery and obstetrics and how it's oxymoronic to charge midwives with practicing medicine. We will also talk about intuition and prudential reasoning vs. logic and protocols. While we are at it we are going to tackle this thought: that all women should think of this as a "pro-choice" topic--why should pro-choice only mean abortion? Can't we coopt the phrase for homebirth? (do you think that's too controversial? Would Christians want to be "pro-choice" for homebirth? Can live and let live extend to everyone's womb? It's gonna be a good one!

On Friday we hoped to speak live with Rowan Bailey, a birth advocate in North Carolina, where midwives are literally criminalized and Homebirth is virtually prohibited because mothers are forced to choose hospital birth or unassisted birth. We hoped to talk to Rowen from jail, where she was taken because she assisted a mother in excercising her own human right to birth her baby where she chose. Unfortunately she was unable to contact us during the live progra. I was able to talk to an attorney during the program, Hermine Hays-Klein. We also spoke with Leigh, Rowans wife.

In tonight's special show we are covering breaking news. Republican Representative Debbie Riddle said yesterday in a Facebook post: House Bill 1706 was brought before a House Committee today – it is about breast feeding. Now, I am all in favor of breast feeding – however it is important for women to be modest while feeding their baby – and most women are modest and respectful. But, a bill that would allow for law suits if one “interfered” with a woman breast feeding is really going a bit far. If a business owner objects to a woman who is not being modest then be fearful of a law suit is government out of control. Most of our laws and bills being considered for law would not be necessary if people would simply be considerate and thoughtful of others. Needless to say – I am not supporting this bill. I will be discussing this with Sara Chana Silverstein IBCLC-RH. This statement has caused quite a lot of furror on the internet. Pitting moms against one another..
