Boston Pops - 129th Season - Podcast

Historic footage of the lunar landing provided by NASA will accompany a program of stirring patriotic music featuring the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, with music about our universe including Holsts' "The Planets". Honor one of America's proudest moments in space exploration with a spectacular Pops concert. The Navy Band Northeast Wind Ensemble joins the Boston Pops on June 13.

Watch the video podcast! On the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Boston Pops pays tribute to the great swing clarinetist Benny Goodman, a musical giant who became known as "The King of Swing." In an unparalleled evening of his music, Goodman is honored by a program that includes such memorable songs as "Let's Dance," "Don't be that Way," "Sing, Sing, Sing," and other favorites. The evening will also feature our annual tribute to Boston Pops Maestro Arthur Fiedler (June 5 only).

The program will highlight Americas favorite musicals drawn from Donens distinguished career in film, such as "Singin in the Rain", "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", and "Royal Wedding". The Pops honors the man whose creative genius reshaped musicals forever. Donen will appear with the Pops on May 28 and 29. This program also includes Star Gazers from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, featuring Pops' harpist Ann Hobson Pilot.

Celebrate the release of the Boston Pops Red Sox Album, the Pops' latest CD produced in conjunction with the Boston Red Sox and Major League Baseball. Hear Fenway's favorite "Sweet Caroline" and all the baseball classics including "Casey at the Bat" and "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", plus the "Star-Spangled Banner". From Opening Day to end-of season mythic battles to win the pennant, this Pops program will rouse the hearts, hopes, and fond baseball memories of all in the audience.

In tribute to the Centennial of Ballets Russes, Keith Lockhart brings a bit of Paris and St. Petersburg to Boston with world premieres of creative ballet by Rebecca Rice Dance Company, original costumes by Amanda Mujica, and multi-media imagery synched to music by Stravinsky, Borodin, and Prokofiev. This performance is part of the Ballets Russes 2009 Festival, which celebrates the revolutionary Russian ballet and opera troupe that captivated European and American audiences for twenty years in the early 20th Century.

Together, they expanded access to classical music for millions of people. This special tribute to "Mr. Pops" will feature Ravel's Bolero, Offenbach's Gaité Parisienne, and many more of the Dickson favorites in a tribute to the 100th anniversary of his birth.
