Wait, What? show

Wait, What?

Summary: Ostensibly about comic books and graphic novels, "Wait, What?" is a podcast in which two friends swap stories, theories, and jokes about all aspects of pop culture...but especially comics. For our early episodes, our theme music is Track 18 from Nine Inch Nails' wonderful ambient album Ghosts, which Trent Reznor graciously made available under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license. But for some time now, it has been an original composition by our very own Graeme McMillan: this update is overdue!

We also cover general topics like : Avengers HR, the problem with The Human Torch, the second part of the Spider-Man/Daredevil crossover, Chris Claremont, Frank Tieri, the pleasures of Zombo, Prophet #21, Memorial #2 and much more.  Wait, What? Episode 68.2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:16:28

This is the finale to Episode 68 with Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester covering the other big stories and/or non-stories from 2011. For the next seventy-five minutes, join us as we discuss the Kirby trial outcome, layoffs at Marvel, superhero movies, women in comics, kickstarter, comics marketing, Watchmen 2, and the proverbial much, much more. We hope you enjoy our last podcast for 2011 and will be here for more discussion, disagreement and comic related chaos in 2012. Happy new year!

 Wait, What? Episode 68.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:24:30

Episode 68 is part one of an especially rambling year in review from Graeme McMillan and me. Part one, which is an hour and twenty minutes long manages to cover our Christmas with The Swamp Thing special, shopping and other holiday thoughts; DC's New 52; Marvel's trade paperback program; day and date digital; things that come out of Brian Bendis's mouth, the paintings of Sharon Moody (who I erroneously call Shannon Moody for the whole damn podcast!); the voices of the Marvel Architects and a long analysis of the year's crossover events through the only lens that matters--that of Mark Millar. Although the episode installs abruptly--we cannot tell you why the outro music failed to end up in our final mix--we hope you enjoy and come back for part two. As always, thanks for listening!

 Wait, What? Episode 67.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:48

Episode 67 might start off seeming a bit diffuse--with Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester talking The Nerdist Playlist; storytelling tricks in pinball and in Lost--but it ends up focused with laser-like precision as we turn our attention to the post-Fear Itself interview by Matt Fraction and Tom Brevoort concerning the epilogues. In a Wait, What? first for us, we're splitting the episode in two but posting both parts at the same time, so feel free to jump ahead to part 2, if you'd rather hear us discuss our picks for a comic book holiday gift list. Or listen to both! We would be happy, either way. But, as always, we thank you for listening and hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 67.2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:11:11

Episode 67 moves from putting some coal in your stocking to giving you suggestions for gifts you might want to give that special someone--even or maybe especially if that special someone is yourself. After reeling in shock over how many episodes we produced this year, Graeme McMillan and I slowly recover so we can bring you a long list of holiday gift suggestions. Some of what we mention will be familiar to long-time listeners but there are also some surprises in our picks in order to give you a list of more than 30 holiday gift suggestions. We hope you enjoy and wish you the very best this holiday season. Thanks for listening!

 Wait, What? Episode 66.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:39:59

This is Episode 66, a done-in-one episode where Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester come as close to giving you an hour and forty minutes of frothy comic talk as is humanly possible. Topics covered include a very lengthy discussion about the just-released Defenders #1 and the power of secret shout-outs, Dark Horse Digital's recent pricing hullaballoo, Avengers vs. X-Men, Bendis leaving Avengers, Spaceman #2, OMAC #4, Daredevil #6, the Lethal Weapon comic that never was, Flash #3, Secret Avengers and Wolverine #19 and, yes, of course, The Muppet Movie. It's all here in one mondo installment for you and, as always, we thank you for listening and hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 65.2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:18

The second of Episode 65's two installments features not only mallomars, but a teeny-ting bit more discussion of Steve Gerber's Defenders. Plus, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester also discuss Matt Fraction's recent appearance on Word Balloon, the pros and cons of interviewing pros, being trolled on Twitter, Watchmen 2, the price of satisfaction. Also, we reveal some of our terrifying purchasing decisions in this ninety-plus minute conclusion. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 65.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:03:26

After a brief Thanksgiving break, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester are back for the first of two installments for Episode 65, and a look at the classic Defenders run by Steve Gerber. But of course, us being us, we also end up discussing Carrier IQ, a big bunch of Kieron Gillen books, Batman #252, and Topatoco's first collection of the amazing Oglaf by Doug Bayne and Trudy Cooper. If you've ever wondered why we haven't done very many in-depth looks at classic comic runs, this will probably help you figure out. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 64.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:40:59

Just in time for the oddball American holiday of Thanksgiving it's a black friday sized done-in-one podcast running just a hair under a hundred minutes. In it, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester discuss the TV shows Community and Parks and Recreation; fights on Twitter (and more specifically Graeme's recent dust-up there); Avengers #19 and the brilliance of Daniel Acuna, the mini-comics Cindy and Biscuit by Dan White, Sabertooth Vampire by Mark Russell, and The End of the Fucking World by Charles Forsman. We also talk up Mud Man by Paul Grist; Batman and Robin; Wonder Woman #3, and much, much, much, much more. It's the perfect podcast for tuning out family and relatives on an endless Thursday afternoon and should tide you over for the long two weeks until we pop up next. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 63.2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:56:29

After spinning around the globe for offbeat classics, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester woozily return to the USA for oddball hijinks closer to home, namely Marvel's handling of Avenging Spider-Man, the cancellation of the Victor Von Doom miniseries by Nick Spencer and Becky Cloonan, changes to Marvel's incentive payments; and the latest issues of Journey Into Mystery and Marvel's Point One promotional one-shot. We also dazedly strew some choice non-Marvellish topics along the way, in our convenient less-than-an-hour wrap-up. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 63.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:38

Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester are back for the first part of Episode 63 to talk comics. More specifically, some very offbeat comics from around the world, including The Spy vs. Spy Omnibus by Antonio Prohias; Nemesis The Warlock by Pat Mills, Kevin O'Neill, and Bryan Talbot; Strontium Dog by John Wagner, Alan Grant and Carlos Ezquerra; Crying Freeman by Kazuo Koike and Ryoichi Ikegami, and more praise for the astounding Ganges #4 by Kevin Huizenga. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!

 Wait, What? Episode 62.1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:04

We didn't quite finish the job we started last week, so Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester are back with a brief, somewhat addled episode 62 to continue answering questions posed to us on the Savage Critic website. The plan was to do a strong ninety minutes but recording woes mean it's more like a slightly sketchy hour. So join us on an abbreviated trip through listeners' questions, with topics including Kid friendly books in the New52, Matt Fraction and Dave Eggers, Uncanny X-Force, Spaceman #1 and the future of Vertigo, Kevin Huizenga's Ganges, Alphas and Misfits, and as much as we can work into our unfortunately-truncated time schedule. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy!
