Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children will open this year's Woman's Film Festival. It's the screen adaptation of Salman Rushie's epic novel of the same name. It won the Booker prize in 1980 - and is on Penguin's list as one of the best books of the century. Midnight's Children opened at TIFF a couple of weeks ago and is screening at the Calgary Film Festival this week. That's where Chris O'Neill Yates reached director Deepa Mehta.
The star of Food Network's Chuck's Day Off is off to Elliston. Chuck Hughes is joining chefs such as Todd Perrin, Jonathan Gushue, Grant Van Gameren, Martin Juneau, Jeremy Charles among others for Roots, Rants and Roars Food Festival in Elliston. He's the youngest Canadian Chef to win iron Chef America. Chuck stopped by the Weekend Arts Magazine studio.
One critic said the word troubadour could have been invented for Matt Epp. Sirius Satellite radio called him the singer-songwriter discovery of the year in 2010. He's performed with Rose Cousins, Amelia Curran and many others. Matt has released five albums. At Dawn is his new CD. On September 29 the Manitoba native is back in St. John's, a place he dearly loves. Host Chris O'Neill Yates caught up with Matt at his home in Winnipeg.
