Jack corrects the eating habits of Don and Phil, then the scene shifts to the Coleman's house. Ronald and Bonita Coleman complain about the latest antics of their neighbor. Phil plays some transitional music, then we find Jack in the middle of a violin lesson. Jack has a specially hired English butler to help with the festivities. Will the Coleman's be impressed by the effort Jack has tossed into his party? The jokes and small talk are broken only for Larry Stevens, who sings a closing medley of Christmas Carols.

The Mills Brothers had a radio program from 1931-37, and a few moments of it are created again today. The 4 brothers blend voices, accompanied only by a guitar. How are stations on a network able to recieve programs at the same time? Why doesn't Jack Benny stay in New York to do his broadcast like he used to do? Cherio is a radio personality who is asked to return to the air to share an uplifting story about a soldier in the first World War. In flashback we hear the story of a soldier telling his nurse about his rescue, and closure for the nurse who tended to him. The incident inspired a poem, which is shared. PS: The Mills Brothers actually were acompanied by only a guitar. The sounds of other instruments you hear are done entirely by their own vocalizations.

As usual, Lou is late and has to explain himself to Bud about his landlady. The two are planning a big Christmas party. The discussion of their guestlist and invitations shifts to topics including: girls, Christmas Trees, fur coats, and more. Connie Haines sings, the Trolley Song. Downtown Lou and Bud do some last minute shopping for their party. They meet a high society woman who gets Lou mixed up, and Lou offends her by making fun of her broad vowel sounds in her speech. The guys run into Lou's girlfriend, Lena Ghensta. Lou manages to offend everybody, and it looks like nobody will be coming to his party. Not even Mrs Niles, Verna Felton, when she meets them, but should that be a surprise? Mellonhead is a cab driver who just isn't please with anything Lou says to him. Lou is feeling low when it's midnight, and nobody is at his party. Flashback to Lou's childhood and his friends Chowderhead Abbot, and Skinny Niles. Verna is Lou's mom who rides herd on the three unruly boys. Santa comes down the chimney to enumerate Lou's long list of misdeeds. Since nobody loves him, Lou leaves his parents a note to say he is running away. Back in modern time, Lou is still upset over being left alone, and having nobody at his party. Surprise! the whole gang comes to the party afterall, and Lou is joined by the cast to sing a parting song for the holiday season.

The job to investigate a warehouse of furs that caught on fire comes across Richard Rogue's path. For a hot tip, Rogue needs to pay a $1000 payment to the informant. Is the white haired gent a crackpot and a bum, or is he legitimate and wealthy as he claims? Miss Grant is the distraught daughter of a warehouse manager. Emotional secrets are shared including a mysterious Miss Maxwell who has a hold over her dad. An encounter with disgruntled cops leads Rogue to face up to a gunman who tries to kidnap him. Making a narrow escape, Rogue is off to question Miss Maxwell. Is the blonde bombshell the kind of dragon lady who could mastermind a rash of arson, or is her crime limited to the murder of Mr Grant? A thump on the head awaits our hero for his troubles. When he comes around though, Rogue knows who to go after, and with the right pressure applied, he exposes a cover up. A plan to substitute fake furs for real ones, and in taking both the insurance money, and still having the real furs.

Abner and grandpap enjoy a game of checkers. Normally Lum would be all over them for playing during business hours, but something has had Lum distracted. He's always looking for excuses to drop in to check on the new school teacher. As the checker players enjoy their game, they wonder over what new excuse Lum might come up with next. Does the scholars have enough ink? What about enough firewood to make it through the cold day? While Lum heads to the feed room, grandpap studies the Checkerboard, and Abner takes a phone order. When there's a legitimate order to be delivered to the school, Abner and grandpap conspire to offer themselves to make the delivery. Lum just won't stand for it, and demands to run the errand himself. There's just one thing he forgot as he races to the school, the ink that was needed.

Leroy and Marjorie enjoy a look at Gildy's old photo album, and the old time fashions when he was a kid. Birdie has her own troubles dealing with a man who knocks at the door. Can Gildy bail her out with the tobacco salesman, and his cigars? Later, Leroy and his friend Piggy discover the box of cigars, and a dare leads to Leroy lighting up. How's it taste? Pretty bad, then it gets worse when Leroy lights up to take his first puff. After a few drags on the stoagie, the boys start feeling sick from the affects. Have they learned their lesson? In their dizzy illness, the boys inadvertently layed the cigar aside, and as they stepped out to clear their heads, the living room catches on fire. Birdie saves the day, while Gildy and Marjorie do some Christmas shopping across town. How will Leroy explain the fire, and how it started? It isn't difficult for Gildy to figure out what happened, now what will he do to deal with the errant Leroy?

Marjorie is set on selling an iron deer to raise money, and her conversation with the junk man leads to an interesting exchange of words. At the same time, Birdie has designs on the deer, as does Leroy and Gildersleeve. Who will win the race to sell it for scrap money? Mr Lewellyn, the man who sounds like Elmer Fudd, is still in town, and chats with Gildersleeve about his predicament. Can the man help Gildersleeve with some of his own bookkeepping woes? Will the multiple claims on the iron deer be cleared up? Who is getting the best deal for the disappearing deer?

Rochester gets a bath ready for Jack, but after all the preparations, Jack decides to abandon the fleet of ships and rubber duck for a shower. Rochester's mundane house work is interrupted by what sounds like a gunshot, and another violin lesson from professor LaBlanc. How will the nusic teacher feel about Jack'sa attempt at his scales, Shine Little Glow Worm, and bits of pop music? Phil and the band plays a jazzy transitional tune. With the lesson over, Jack's visit to the vault to pay his teacher is side tracked when Dennis Day visits. They talk about the football game the dayt before, and buying Christmas cards. Creaking and spooky sound affects announce the visit to the vault, and Ed the security guard. Will LaBlanc ever get his money? First a musical commercial from the Sportsmen. They sing a version of Ragtime Cowboy Joe that explodes into a "Wait a minute" moment for Jack. Jack is distracted by Phil Harris, who shows off the birthday present he got for Alice. The boys in the Beaver Scouts meet Phil, and a new kid is introduced. Will he believe the bragging, and accomplishments that Jack has tried to pass off on the kids? After Phil leaves, Jack plays a little football with the kids. Rochester saves the day for Jack, but will LaBlanc get paid?

Since the arrival of the new school teacher, Lum's duties seem to have increased. Today, Cedric visits the Jot Em Down store to tell Abner about his return to school. He has been tested, and claims he gets to start with a promotion into three readers over where he was. By the time Abner figures it out, Cedric's math skills show that he's really right back in the third reader again. Abner gets upset over Lum, that polka dotted varmint, when Cedric tells that he's been at the schoolhouse most of the day. Though Lum won't admit it, it's clear that he's in love with Miss Platt. As Cedric leaves with his school supplies, Lum enters. Abner grills him over where's he been all day. Armed with info from Cedric it's easy to catch Lum in a web of lies. And were those water pipes really faulty?

As they often do, George and Gracie enter to joke about dating other people, and their fashionable nightlife. Topics also include Christmas shopping, and Senor Lee's crazy butchering of the English language. After Gracie announces her intention for doing her play later, the disgruntled sound man shares his own Christmas moment. The play is a musical, full of jabs at the characters in the cast. Gracie is a newspaper reporter who is out to clean up the town. To get an inside scoop, she convinces her staff of reporters to get arrested and get a first hand look at the corruption in the system. Artie Shaw plays a mellow dance tune. With the entire staff of reporters languishing in jail, and no actual scandal, can Gracie help them escape? Will they all emerge as concquering heros? The play ends in a grand musical finale to say goodbye.

Marching feet close in on the house where Jack Benny lives. What's the parade all about? Mailmen are delivering the entries in the contest to tell why people hate Jack. Inside, Jack talks with Phil about Christmas gifts. With mail piling up, it's hard to get to the door for some jabs from Frank Nelson. Larry Stevens has to bow out of singing, and Rochester joins the fun in the jokes about the mail. What's a frustrated Jack to do? After a brief musical interlude, Jack gets busy with making Christmas shopping lists. Phil gets a phone call from his daughter to talk about Santa, and Christmas. A child actress, of corse. Jack tries to tune in the radio but has trouble with the stations. Will he find the show that Don is on amid the crazy music, drama, and commercials? Maybe Jack will get some good gossip about him, rather than all the hate mail he has been getting lately. Lewella Parsons makes a radio appearance on Jack's dial. Note: The real life Baby Alice would be about 4 years old at this time. If she were starting school, it would have been in a preschool program of some kind. It wasn't always customary to have a kindergarten at most schools. With Mary out with laryngitis, Jack says a special goodbye at the show close.

The story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Joe Friday is working the Burglary department, when they have to investigate the theft from a church at Christmas time. Joe, and partner, Frank Smith set out to mail Christmas cards, and talk about their Christmas shopping, but are interupted to go on a case. A priest reports that baby Jesus has been stolen. Joe gives an elaborate description of the cathedral, it's decorations, and the custom behind the decorations. It's not so much the monetary value of the missing statue, but the sentiment behind it. Armed with some leads, Friday eleminates the possibilities. Pawn shops turn up nothing. Suspicious parishoners are interviewed, but everything proves to be OK. Other pressing cases come in, but Friday puts the captain off so he can solve this crime in time for the next church service. With every lead coming to a dead end, where does Joe turn to next? As Joe and Frank return to face up empty handed to the priest, all the loose ends of the case come together. The solution is much more simple and harmless than you might expect. Here's a hint, it involves a small child and a Christmas wish.

Sound Effect of the Week. Learn about the sounds of baby cries, and a man with the DT's. A salute to a program gone by is, Dino Crime Clues. A few of the original cast return with a condenced mystery. Match wits with the crime hunter, and see how good you are. The under world, seedy dives, gangsters, and dames play a part in a murder mystery in a theater.
