Apple Makes More Money From Games Than Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Combined - IGN Daily Fix | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: Unknown

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Although Apple hasn't many games of its own, the tech giant is now taking more profits from games than Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo combined. And while Apple Arcade is still a great value, it's not the reason for their success in the gaming space. Massive titles like Fortnite and Honor of Kings bring in tons of revenue in the form of a 30% that Apple takes for listing these titles in their App Store. Ubisoft has confirmed a long-held fan theory about the villain of Far Cry 2, the Jackal, and how he connects to the original Far Cry story. "The Jackal is actually supposed to be Jack Carver from the original Far Cry," said Clint Hocking, Far Cry 2's Creative Director, while talking to IGN for the latest Inside Stories documentary, How Far Cry's Iconic Villains Were Created. Carver is an ex-U.S. Army Special Forces and the protagonist in the first Far Cry along with the spinoff Far Cry Instincts. According to Capcom's COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the company behind Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and many more is planning to "mainly focus on PC software" in the future. As reported by VGC, Tsujimoto was speaking to Nikkei and shared that the success of its PC software has been "driving global sales" and that he thinks "PCs will be the next big thing after smartphones."  Konami Reportedly Bringing Back Metal Gear, Silent Hill, More - IGN Daily Fix | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: Unknown

In today's Daily Fix, Tokyo Game Show is in full swing, and two of of Japan's biggest gaming companies showed us the goods. Well, unless you were looking for anything related to Final Fantasy 16. That's right, Square Enix revealed a new demo for its Final Fantasy 1 remake, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins. Tactical RPG Triangle Strategy got a new story trailer, which is neat. The game looks great and the team's previous game, Octopath Traveler, was a solid throwback RPG with a gorgeous art style. And the director of classic Final Fantasies 6, 9, and 12 is back with a new game called Dungeon Encounters, which is a dungeon exploration RPG. Cool! And Konami (remember them?) might just be giving the fans what they want and making new Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear games. The current rumors involving Metal Gear aren't exactly brand new games but remasters of the older Metal Gear Solid games. However, there also may be a full-on remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in the works. Exciting! We hope this is true, as it's actually a little difficult to play the older MGS games on newer consoles, especially if you're playing on a PS5 (backward compatibility issues and whatnot). How about also giving us new remasters of Peace Walker and Acid? And, if I may be so bold, a remaster of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes? Finally, Bandai Namco gave us a refresh of its company logo. And it's...kind of...okay? It definitely looks like a text bubble in a messaging app. Or a neon sign in front of a 90's-era arcade. And the logo wasn't all that was updated. Bandai Namco also revealed a new slogan for the company, "Fun for All into the Future." Guess that makes sense? What should Bandai Namco's new company slogan be? Put your best ones in the comments! It's your Daily Fix!

PlayStation Studios Newest Acquisition Was a Long Time Coming - IGN Daily Fix | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: Unknown

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced yet another studio acquisition - Bluepoint Games, the developers of the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4, and, most recently, the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls. Bluepoint and PlayStation have worked closely together for years, but the news comes after the studio's latest successful release, as Sony confirmed Demon's Souls has sold more than 1.4 million copies since release. IGN spoke with PlayStation Studios Head Hermen Hulst and Bluepoint President Marco Thrush to learn more about the acquisition, PlayStation's overall studio strategy, and about how, though Bluepoint is steeped in PlayStation remaster and remake expertise, it wants to explore original ideas. Christopher Judge, the voice behind Kratos in 2018's God of War and the upcoming sequel, has said that his surgery was the reason that God of War: Ragnarok was delayed from its original 2021 release window. Judge shared this story on Twitter following God of War being crowned the champion of IGN's Best Video Game of All Time Bracket. He Quote Tweeted a Tweet from God of War's engineering lead Jeet Shroff that was responding to the victory and he then continued to thank the fans and send love to his God of War family. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - which one could assume would contain remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas - has been rated by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee. This rating was spotted by those like @Nibellion on Twitter, and it appears to confirm Kotaku's report from August 2021 that said these remasters - all of which would be remastered in Unreal Engine - are on their way to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, mobile devices, and even the Nintendo Switch. It's almost the end of September, which means Sony has revealed the free games available next month for PlayStation Plus subscribers. On PS5, we're getting Hell Let Loose, and for PS4, there's PGA Tour 2K21 and Mortal Kombat X. PGA Tour 2K21 features 15 licensed PGA Tour courses and a robust player and course creator. Mortal Kombat X was originally released back in 2015, and we gave it a glowing review, calling it the best Mortal Kombat game, period. PS Plus subscribers can grab these games starting October 5th. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may not be hitting PlayStation 5 consoles until 2023, but Marvel is already teasing the game's darker storyline. On the This Week in Marvel podcast, Marvel Games executive Bill Rosemann compared the sequel to another famous sequel: The Empire Strikes Back. The first game did a great job of setting up this new version of Peter Parker, and the challenges he faces balancing his responsibilities as Spider-Man with his real-life identity as Parker. Now it's time for the sequel to tackle some of Spidey's more complex storylines. But he won't be alone, as Miles Morales will be there at his side taking on Venom and most likely Kraven the Hunter. And finally, the Nintendo 64 and IGN turn 25 today. Time flies, huh? It didn't feel that long ago when we were using dial up internet to look up cheats for GoldenEye on IGN64.com. What are your favorite N64 memories? Let us know in the comments!

Why God of War 3 Will Have a Different Setting - IGN Daily Fix | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: Unknown

The news that there'd only be two parts to the God of War Norse mythology saga kinda hit different for gamers, but director of the 2018 game, Cory Barlog, is opening up about his reasoning. In an interview with Kaptain Kuba on YouTube, Cory Barlog discussed why the story of Kratos and Atreus would be told over just two installments and not a trilogy or more. So the team at Sony Santa Monica Studio could've extended the story, but instead the decision was made to condense it to its core focal point, that being the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. With that, we'll be getting a presumably well-rounded story based on these two memorable characters. And it's not to say this'll be the last time we see Kratos - God of War: Ragnarok is the second and final chapter in the Norse mythology saga of the series, but who knows where Kratos might end up next? We'll have more God of War Ragnarok reaction when we receive future God of War Ragnarok gameplay. Gamers everywhere are looking forward to #GodofWarRagnarok. In other gaming news, Undertale fans: get excited! The second entry in the follow-up to the highly-popular game, Deltarune: Chapter 2, is coming September 17th. And finally, Gas Station Simulator is ranked third on Steam's Top Sellers list.
