Don't forget to stop by HindiPod101.com for more great Hindi Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- मुहम्मद बिन तुगलक दिल्ली सल्तनत के एक राजा, तुगलक (या तुग़लक़) ने 1325 से 1351 ईस्वी तक शासन किया| वे उन तुर्की सम्राटों और राजाओं की श्रृंखला में से एक थे जिन्होंने उत्तरी भारत पर शासन किया| एक योद्धा और दार्शनिक सम्राट, तुगलक अपने साम्राज्य के लिए एक विस्तारवादी नीति के पक्षधर थे, उन्हें दक्कन तथा गुजरात के विजय अभियानों के लिए जाना जाता है| 1351 ईस्वी के मार्च महीने में उनका निधन हो गया; यह उनका दुर्भाग्य ही था कि उन्होंने अपनी आँखों से अपने साम्राज्य को लड़खड़ाते और उजड़ते हुए देखा| उनके बाद उनके पुत्र फ़िरोज़　शाह तुग़लक़ ने गद्दी संभाली| जौना खान, उलूग खान और राजकुमार फख्र मलिक के रूप में भी जाने जानेवाले तुगलक एक सुविख्यात विद्वान और सुलेखक थे| उन्होंने चिकित्सा, खगोल विज्ञान, गणित, दर्शनशास्त्र, तर्कशास्त्र, भौतिक विज्ञान और द्वंद्ववाद का अध्ययन किया था| वे नए प्रयोग करने से कभी हिचकिचाए नहीं और उन्होंने टोकन प्रणाली पर आधारित एक नयी सिक्का प्रणाली की शुरुआत की| तांबे और पीतल के टोकन बनाए गए थे और सल्तनत के खजाने में उनका मूल्य सोने और चांदी द्वारा समर्थित था| नागरिकों को टोकन के बदले अपने सोने और चांदी के सिक्कों का आदान-प्रदान करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया; उन्होंने ऐसा नहीं किया और मुद्रा का यह प्रयोग अंततः समाप्त कर दिया गया| तुगलक अपनी राजधानी को दिल्ली से देवगिरी ले गए, इस कदम को सुविधाजनक बनाने के लिए विशेष रूप से एक नए राजमार्ग का निर्माण किया गया| दुर्भाग्य से देवगिरी में एक राजधानी शहर के लिए समर्थक बुनियादी ढांचों का अभाव था, अपर्याप्त जल आपूर्ति के कारण अनेक लोगों की मृत्यु हो जाने के बाद राजधानी को अंततः दिल्ली वापस ले आया गया| तुगलक के शासनकाल के दौरान मोरक्को के प्रसिद्ध यात्री और लेखक इब्न बतूता ने उनके दरबार का दौरा किया| हालांकि तुगलक ने स्वयं अपने सिक्कों पर धार्मिक आकृतियां अंकित की थीं लेकिन वे एक सहिष्णु शासक थे जिन्होंने हिंदुओं और जैनियों को दिल्ली में रहने और बसने की अनुमति दी थी| उनके पूर्वजों में उनके समान खुले-दिमाग की भावना अनिवार्य रूप से मौजूद नहीं थी; उनके भतीजे ने उस आदेश को पलट दिया और हिंदुओं तथा जैनियों को दिल्ली से बाहर खदेड़ दिया| थट्टा में सिंधी सूमरो जनजाति के सदस्यों के बीच एक विवाद को दबाने के लिए सिंध की यात्रा के मार्ग में तुगलक की मौत हो गयी| ----Formal English---- MUHAMMAD BIN TUGHLAQ A king of the Delhi Sultanate, Tughlaq (or Tughluq) ruled from 1325 to 1351 CE. He was one in a line of Turkic emperors and kings that ruled northern India. A warrior and philosopher-king, Tughlaq favored an expansionist policy for his empire and is known for his conquest of the Deccan and Gujarat. He passed away in March of 1351 CE and lived to see his empire falter and begin to crumble. He was succeeded by his son Firuz Shah Tughluq. Also known as Jauna Khan, Ulugh Khan, and Prince Fakhr Mailk, Tughlaq was a well-versed scholar and calligrapher. He studied medicine, astronomy, mathematic, philosophy, logic, the physical sciences, and dialectics. He was open to experimentation and took to initiating a new coinage system that was based on a token system. Copper and brass tokens were minted and their values were supported by gold and silver in the Sultanate treasury. Citizens were encouraged to exchange their gold and silver coins for the tokens; they didn't and the currency experiment was eventually scrapped. Tughlaq also moved his capital from Delhi to Devagiri, with a new highway constructed specifically to facilitate the move. Devagiri unfortunately lacked the infrastructure to support a capital city, and after numerous people died from insufficient water supplies, the capital was eventually moved back to Delhi. During Tughlaq's reign, the famous Moroccan traveler and writer Ibn Batutta visited his court.
