Don't forget to stop by HindiPod101.com for more great Hindi Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- सवंत्रता दिवस दो सौ वर्ष अंग्रेजों की गुलामी के बाद 15 अगस्त सन् उन्नीस सौ सैंतालीस को हमारा भारत स्वतंत्र हुआ| देश को आज़ाद कराने के लिए हज़ारों स्वतंत्रता-सैनानियों ने अपनी जान दे दी| इस गौरव के प्रतीक को हर साल प्रत्येक भारतीय नागरिक सवंत्रता दिवस के रूप में हर्ष और उल्लास के साथ मनाता है। ब्रिटीश राज से पहले भारत में कई विदेशी शासक आये, राज किया और भारत को अपनी मात्रभूमि बना लिया। उनके राज्य में देश पर कोई प्रतिकूल असर नहीं पड़ा। किन्तु अंग्रेजों के आने से यह सब बदल गया| अंग्रेज लोग हमेशा ही भारतीयों को हीन भावना से देखते थे। वे लोग भारत में आते, कुछ साल राज करते और फिर अपने वतन लौट जाते थे। उन्हें भारत के लोगों के सुख-दुःख और उनके कल्यान की परवाह नहीं थी। वे सिर्फ़ अपने देश के हित के लिए काम करते थे। उन्होंने भारत के लोगों पर राज करने के लिए उनकी एकता को भंग किया और उनके बीच धार्मिक फूट डाली| उन्होंने इंग्लेंड की मशीनों का बना कपड़ा भारत में कम कीमत पर बेचना शूरू किया| इससे भारतीय हस्त-उद्योग नष्ट हो गया और बहुत लोग बेरोज़गार हो गये। अंग्रेजों की कूटनीति से भारतवासी गरीब हो गये तथा अपना स्वाभिमान खो कर जीवन से निराश हो गये। तब लोगों ने देश की स्वाधीनता के लिए जंग शूरू की। सन् अठारा सौ सत्तावन में लक्ष्मी बाई ने तलवार उठाई। जलियांवाला बाग़ का भीषण हत्याकांड हुआ| कई वीर स्वातंत्र-सैनिकों ने इस संग्राम में हिस्सा लिया और अपनी जान की बली चढ़ाई| इस दौरान महात्मा गाँधी ने सत्याग्राह आंदोलन शूरू किया और भारत के साथ साथ सारे विश्व को अहिंसा और शांति का सन्देश दिया। सन् उन्नीस सौ बयालीस में महात्माजी ने 'भारत छोड़ो' जनांदोलन चलाया और देश को अंग्रेजों के राज से मुक्त कराया। आज़ादी पाकर भारत के हर घर में नई रोशनी आई। उन सभी वीर जवानों को श्रद्धांजली अर्पण करते हुए हर साल पंद्राह अगस्त को हम सवंत्रता दिवस मनाते हैं| उनके इस बलिदान से हमें यह प्रेरणा मिलती है कि हमें अपने देश की स्वतंत्रता को बनाए रखने के लिए तन मन धन से प्रयास करना चाहिए। आज की नयी पीढ़ी स्वतंत्रता की अनमोल देन को भूल गयी है| देश में खाद्य समस्या, भ्रष्टाचार और कुप्रथाएँ बढ़ने लगी हैं| इन सब से लड़ने के लिए हमें एक साथ प्रयत्न करना चाहिए | सामाजिक विषमताओं को नष्ट करना तथा देश में निरक्षरता और बेकारी को दूर करना हर एक का लक्ष होना चाहिए। इस आज़ादी के पौधे को सींचकर हरा भरा रखना हर भारतवासी का उत्तरदायित्व है। ----Formal English---- Independence Day After 200 years of slavery under British rule, India became independent on 15th August 1947. Thousands of brave warriors lost their lives during this freedom struggle. Independence Day is celebrated to pay tributes to these martyrs and honor the gift of freedom. Before the British, a lot of foreign rulers came to India; they ruled here for years and made this their motherland. However, they made no adverse changes in the social and economic conditions of the country. After the arrival of British to India there was a big change in the country. They started to treat the Indians badly and consider them inferior. They would live here for a few years and go back to their motherland. They were never concerned about the problems of Indian people. They only worked for the welfare and prosperity of their motherland. They started to created religious rifts amongst the Indian people. Their policy was to "divide and rule." They also started selling cloth made in England at a cheaper price in India. Due to this the small scale industries and hand-made textiles in India faced a setback and had to close. Many people lost their means of livelihood and were forced to starve. The policies of the British made Indian people poorer and dependent. It was at this time that the people started the freedom struggle. There were many fights like the revolt by Rani Laxmibai in 1857 and the Jaliawala Bagh massacre. During this time Mahatma Gandhi started the Satyagrah [...]
