Advanced Audio Blog S2 #23 - A Russian Author Joins the Third Wave | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:19

Learn Russian with RussianPod101! Don't forget to stop by RussianPod101.com for more great Russian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Sergei Donatovich Dovlatov is a Russian writer and journalist. He was born in 1941 in Ufa. From 1944, he lived in St. Petersburg where he finished school and the first three years of the university, from which he was expelled for poor performance. Having served in the army, Dovlatov spent some time working at the Leningrad newspaper and later moved to Estonia and worked in Tallinn editions. In 1978, he immigrated to Austria and then moved to the USA for permanent residence. Dovlatov started writing novels while he was still in Leningrad but the typesetting of his first book was destroyed by the KGB, and the following attempts to get published were suppressed by the Soviet government. In America Dovlatov became chief editor of the Russian language immigrant newspaper called "New American," and his articles were published in the "New-Yorker" magazine. The main works of Dovlatov are the following: "The Zone," "The Invisible Book," "Solo on Underwood," "The Compromise," "The Reserve," "Ours," "The March of the Single People," "Craft," "Suitcase," "A foreign Woman," and "Not only Brodsky." The basis of Sergei Dovlatov's works is the events of his own life, although his books are not documentaries. The author uses autobiographic facts to describe life and mentality of the generation of the 60s, the absurdity and mercilessness of the Soviet reali [...]
