Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 14 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a cloudy and warm Saturday morning 15 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union: Talofa lava Moana Pasifika, they went down fighting to the Queensland Reds 40-28 in the Pasifika team’s first ever game at home in Apia yesterday, while the Fijian Drua lost 28-43 to the Brumbies after successive TMO calls killed off the surging Fijian Drua momentum late in the game. More importantly, what both games showed is that – Moana Pasifika should be based in the Islands, playing all their home games between Apia, Nukualofa and even in Fiji. And Rugby New Zealand and the New Zealand government should fund this relocation and ongoing operations if they are really genuine about helping us Pasifika Islanders – in this case, especially Samoa and Tonga. The other important point from the Brumbies versus Fijian Drua game, is that World Rugby should restrict the kicking of penalties to touch from where some teams, like the Brumbies, specialize in boring lineout drives to score tries. Compare those tries by the Brumbies to the scintillating tries scored by the Fijian Drua and honestly answer, which were the more exciting to watch? No wonder rugby league is growing in Australia while rugby union is dying – which game is more exciting – the running and passing game or the mauling game? Also from last night’s game – World Rugby must very clearly demarcate the role and rules around the TMO so that they do not interfere with the game on-field unless asked for assistance by the Referee. Our world famous tips for other Super Rugby Pacific Round 8 games to be played; the Hurricanes to Casablanca the Chiefs and NSW Waratahs to Forrest Gump the Force. Fiji Water has come to the rescue of the Fiji Rugby Union, with a timely F$3.8Million sponsorship of the Flying Fijians for the Rugby World Cup in France in September. I just have to ask though – where were the FRU President and Chairman at the announcement yesterday? In rugby league: Storm Coach Craig Bellamy slammed the Storm’s performance in losing 8-18 to Manly last night and questioned what “planet” Tui Kamikamica and Justin Olam were on, after the good mates both hit Manly star, Daly Cherry-Evans late in the second half, and were both sent to the bin for 10 minutes, which ultimately killed off the Storm’s chances of winning. OK so we got the Storm 8-18 Manly game wrong, but the Sharks 22-12 Roosters. And our world famous tips for today; NZ Warriors to curry the Cowboys, the Panthers to kebab the Knights, and Gold Coast Titans to Bar-B-Q the Broncos – that could be another one we get wrong. In football: In a battle between the last two UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid put on an impressive display, while Chelsea showed why they are struggling in 11th place in the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti, who coached Chelsea between 2009-2011, relied on veteran midfielders Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to pull the strings for the 14-time winners and reigning Champions, who eased to a comfortable 2-0 win against Frank Lampard’s side, with Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scoring. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 13 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a beautiful Friday morning 14 April 2023.Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union: Tension is building as the Fiji Rugby Union counts down to its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 29 April between two emerging camps – the pro-Frank Bainimarama as FRU President camp on one side and the pro-Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka camp on the other side, led by the biggest provincial rugby union, Suva.In rugby league: The Dolphins took a 14-6 lead going into the break – but their joy ended there. The Rabbitohs scored three tries in the 10 minutes Kenny Bromwich was yellow-carded off the field at Suncorp Stadium last night, adding to their 30 unanswered second half points to secure a 36-14 win.Talk about a game of two halves.OK Souths fans so we got that first game wrong, but our world famous tips for Round 7 from tonight, the Sharks to roast the Roosters, the Storm to macaroni Manly, NZ Warriors to curry the Cowboys, the Panthers to kebab the Knights, and Gold Coast Titans to Bar-B-Q the Broncos – that could be another one we get wrong. In football: Fans who have bought the most expensive tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup starting in July in Australia and New Zealand, are angry after their tickets place them as high as the very back row at the very top of the main stadium in Sydney, Australia from where the players look like ants.In SportsBiz: Unlike the NBA — which allows players who will be at least 19 during the draft’s calendar year to enter — the WNBA requires players to be at least 22 or set to graduate from a four-year institution.Salaries for rookie WNBA players are predetermined by their draft position - the top 4 picks receive in US$: $72,141 each in their first year. Picks 5-8 earn $69,224. The final four in the 12-pick first round earn $66,306.All other WNBA players selected in the draft earn between US$60,471 and 63,389.In Boxing: Former UFC Middleweight Champion Alex Pereira is moving up a division, but the 35-year-old Brazilian made it clear it’s not because he can’t make weight at 185 pounds as was suggested by UFC Prez Dana White following his UFC287 loss to Israel Adesanya on Saturday in Miami.Yeah how dare you Dana, Pereira is moving up to 205 pounds Light Heavyweight because it is more suited to his 6-foot-4 frame - get it???For TEIVOVOsports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vinaka and thank you. The governing body of the Bundesliga, reported revenues of US$4.9Billion for the 2021-22 season, up 11% from the previous season. While it’s the first revenue increase since the start of COVID, it still lags behind pre-pandemic numbers of US$5.2B revenue in the 2018-19 season. In SportsBiz: Mukesh Ambani, owner of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, is the world’s richest team owner, according to Forbes. Ambani, whose net worth is US$83.4Billion is Chairman of Reliance Industries, a conglomerate with interests in everything in India and around the world especially in energy, retail, telecommunications and more. Of the top 20 richest owners, eight own football teams. In Boxing: Talk about no mercy - Israel Adesanya has been slammed for taunting Alex Pereira’s son after his knockout win at UFC287 in Miami last Sunday. After the Kiwi-Nigerian reclaimed his UFC Middleweight title with a vicious second-round KO of the Brazilian, he mimed pulling three arrows out and firing them at Pereira – which is part of the former champion’s famous entrance. Adesanya then went searching for Pereira’s son in the crowd – who was crying following his dad’s KO loss, but Adesanya refused to show any mercy. He made a point of staring straight at Pereira’s son, before theatrically dropping to the floor. Adesanya later revealed he had done so because the boy had done a similar thing to him after their last fight which his Father Alex Pereira won by KO.Just beautiful, the sweet science of UFC. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 10 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a partly cloudy but sunny Tuesday morning 11 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union: Wales' Men and Women have been crowned World Deaf Rugby 7s World Cup champions in Argentina. Wales Men won the final 20-5 against Australia, which sealed their third consecutive trophy. This report from Wales Online contradicts a report on FBC in Fiji yesterday which claimed that “The Fiji Deaf Rugby 7s team bowed out of cup contention after losing to South Africa in the final of the World Deaf Rugby 7s World Cup.” Both reports say that Fiji lost to Wales 24-5 in their opening pool game. Wales Men beat Argentina 25-5 in the quarter-finals before seeing off last time's finalists England 14-5 in the semis. Maybe FBC got their sign language wrong? In rugby league: Maika Sivo scored twice and Mitch Moses showed why the Wests Tigers were so desperate to sign him after the Eels halfback set up four tries and nailed a clutch conversion to sink his former Club 28-22, piling more misery on the winless Tigers who were outstanding in the second half. After Round 6 of the NRL, Wayne Bennett is the greatest coach in rugby league history after the job he’s done with the Dolphins. Last Friday night against the Cowboys, the Dolphins were missing Jesse Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi and others, but it didn’t matter as The Hammer, Jamayne Isaako and other players stepped up and got the job done. In football: Barcelona can go 15 points clear at the top of La Liga if they beat Girona at home - Spotify Camp Nou Stadium this morning - Easter Monday night in Spain, after Madrid lost 2-3 at home to Villarreal on Saturday. Ahead of the Catalan derby, Manager Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will lead their attack, flanked by Ansu Fati and Raphinha. In Boxing: Donald Trump was at UFC287 in Miami on Sunday, flanked by guess who - Kid Rock and Mike Tyson. The former US President made the surprise appearance after he was formally indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels plus pleading not guilty to 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records The crowd chanted “USA” as Mr Trump waved and pumped his fist in the Kaseya Center in Miami. At The Masters at Augusta and in SportsBiz: Jon Rahm shot 276 to win The Masters and US$3,240,000. In doing so he became the fourth Spaniard to win at Augusta following in the footsteps of the legendary Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia. Phil Mickelson on 280 came from nowhere with eight birdies on the final day to grab a share of second place and pocket US$1,584,000 each with Brooks Koepka. At 52, Mickelson became the oldest player in Masters history to have a top-five finish, and his final-round 65 was the lowest Masters round ever for a player over 50. Jordan Spieth 281 closed with a 66 for US$744,000 each for fourth place with Patrick Reed and Russell Henley. Cousin Tony Finau 288 came in equal 26th with Kiwi star, Ryan Fox and Scott Stallings for US$138,600 each. Not bad for a long weekend Easter egg! Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 09 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a bright and sunny Monday morning 10 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union: New Zealand won gold on a dramatic final day in Singapore yesterday and officially become the first Men’s team to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. The All Blacks 7s defeated Argentina 17-19 to extend their lead at the top of the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series 2023 table. Earlier, Fiji recovered from 7-19 behind to beat Samoa and claim the bronze medal at the Singapore 7s. Remember Samoa had beaten Fiji 7-28 on day one and looked set to win a first Series bronze medal final since Port Elizabeth in December 2013, as Va’a Apelu Maliko helped inspired his side into a 12-point lead. However, tries from Iowane Teba and Joseva Talacolo levelled the scores before Tuna Tuitama received a late yellow card and Terio Veilawa scored his second try to confirm a lucky 24-19 win for Fiji. In rugby league: NRL Referee Peter Gough stunned fans by not sin-binning anyone following an all-out brawl between the Dragons and the Titans yesterday. Gold Coast skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui was at the centre of the first-half melee which ignited from a scrap between him and St George Illawarra young gun Tyrell Sloan. Dragons enforcer Jaydn Su’a came running in to take out Fa’asuamaleaui, before Titans forward Erin Clark appeared to throw a punch - but nobody was binned. And just in case you’re wondering who won - Gold Coast Titans 20-18. The Newcastle Knights are in the Top 8 after grinding out a gutsy 34-24 win over the New Zealand Warriors at home last night. English star, Dom Young showed incredible strength to carry two Warriors over the line and plant down the ball in the corner in the sixth minute for the opener. It marked Young’s 10th try in his past seven games at McDonald Jones Stadium. In football: Barcelona Coach Xavi Hernandez has defended his side after their 4-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid last Wednesday and says winning La Liga would be 'extraordinary' for the Catalan Club. Barca crashed out of the Copa del Rey in the semi-finals after they saw their 1-0 first-leg lead evaporate on a difficult night against Real at Camp Nou on Wednesday, but Barcelona are on course to win LaLiga for the first time since 2019. After Madrid lost 3-2 at home to Villarreal on Saturday, Barcelona can go 15 points clear at the top of the table by beating Girona at home today, Easter Monday. In Boxing: “They say revenge is sweet,” Israel Adesanya said, “and if you know me I’ve got a sweet tooth.” This after the Kiwi-Nigerian UFC superstar exorcised a demon, with a stunning second-round knockout win over Brazilian champion, Alex Pereira in the main event at UFC287 in Miami, Florida. So sweet because Pereira had beaten Adesanya three times already — twice in kickboxing, but today the Kiwi-Nigerian is UFC Middleweight Champion again. At The Masters at Augusta: The weather is finally set to clear today where a massive final day of the US Masters will decide who wears the green jacket. Brooks Koepka, the four-time major winner is on -11 and leads by four shots over 2021 US Open champion Jon Rahm. My cousin Tony Finau is on par at 26th after three rounds and Kiwi star, Ryan Fox is in 18th place. The other big news on Sunday morning was the withdrawal of Tiger Woods due to injury. In rugby league: The Raiders delivered a stunning upset to down the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium last night, ambushing the current competition leaders to win 20-14.Afterwards at the post-game media gig, Canberra Coach, Ricky Stuart confirmed the Dolphins were the Raiders’ biggest threat in keeping their marquee star, Jack Whitton. “Yeah, 100 per cent ... we have put an offer there, we have done everything we can and that is up to Jack and his management now,” Stuart said.Meanwhile, Dylan Edwards was the star of the show, picking up four tries as the Panthers fired off a warning to the rest of the NRL that they are still the team to beat in 2023, recording a resounding 44-12 win over a hopeless Manly. In Boxing: In a bizarre final outing before today’s blockbuster UFC287, Israel Adesanya sported a dog collar, Alex Pereira turned up in a purple suit and Dana White … well, the UFC Prez just seemed to scowl every time a journalist opened their mouth.“Do you have a question about the fight and to these guys who are fighting? Or do you just want to start shit in here? What’s your question?”Welcome to Miami, baby.At The Masters at Augusta: Brooks Koepka goes into the third round on top of the leaderboard at 12-under; holding a two-shot lead over Jon Rahm. Amateur Sam Bennett is alone in third at 8-under.Fiji’s Vijay Singh missed the cut after the first round, cousin Tony Finau is in the middle of the pack while Kiwi star, Ryan Fox son of Grant who is his caddy, is in a very creditable 15th spot. The weather is worsening in Augusta as Round Three gets underway, expected to be played in pouring rain, strong winds and cold temperatures. In SportsBiz: The Masters perennially ranks as the most-watched golf tournament on any US network, and CBS’ final-round audiences dwarf that of the three other majors.Last year, the average TV viewers on CBS for The Masters was 10.2 million, which according to Sports Media Watch, is the most-watched golf telecast on any network since Tiger Woods’ final-round victory in 2019 of 10.8 million. In contrast, the final-round audiences for the PGA Championship and the US Open both 5.3 million and The Open Championship 4.7 million TV viewers. For TEIVOVOsports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vinaka and thank you. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 07 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a bright and sunny Saturday morning 08 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union: The Singapore 7s kicks off today at 01:30pm Fiji time with Argentina-Ireland, then South Africa-Australia at 2.14pm, NZ-Hong Kong 2.36pm, Samoa-Spain 3.42pm and Fiji-Canada 4.04pm then the big games - NZ-Australia 6.02pm, Fiji-Samoa 7.30pm, Australia-Hong Kong 9.06pm, NZ-South Africa 9.28pm, Samoa-Canada 11.05pm and the final game on Day One kicks off at 11:33pm with Fiji-Spain. Play begins tomorrow Easter Sunday at 2:50pm with the ninth place quarter-finals and the gold medal final scheduled for 11:28pm. In rugby league: It looked like it could have been the Dogs’ day when Jake Averillo sprinted 90M to score a try off their first touch of the ball in the third minute. But Latrell Mitchell wasn’t having any of that in his 150th NRL game celebration, bagging a hat-trick as the Rabbitohs smashed the Bulldogs 50-16 in their annual Good Friday clash at Accor Stadium. In Townsville, Jamayne Isaako scored a first-half hat-trick for the Dolphins who then held off a second-half surge from the Cowboys to win 32-22. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow also had an outstanding game – “The Hammer” crossed for a double, including the match-sealing try in the final minutes as he exacted revenge on his old Club. Tabuai-Fidow was the Cowboys’ star fullback until he lost his spot to Scott Drinkwater, and let go early to join the Dolphins. The 21-year-old finished the Good Friday game with two tries, a try assist, two linebreaks, two linebreak assists, nine tackle busts and 120 running metres in a statement performance. In Boxing: The wife of former world heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr. has posted a video on her social media accounts of her throwing his clothes and a diamond-encrusted art piece in the trash saying, “The joke is on both of us,” as Ruiz stands accused of cheating. They have five young children. In football: The appointment of former Arsenal boss, Unai Emery as the new Aston Villa Manager has proven to be a masterstroke. Since arriving in November 2022, the Spaniard has transformed Villa’s fortunes and taken them from 17th all the way up to 7th with stunning victories over the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Brighton. In The Masters at Augusta: His picture is still on the “Wall of Champions” in the press building at Augusta National, next to Phil Mickelson, but his chair at the Champion’s Dinner was empty. As the Masters unfolds this week, Angel Cabrera sits in an Argentine prison. Initially jailed for assaulting, threatening and harassing a former partner, he was then sentenced to an additional two years late last year for assaulting another former girlfriend. His glory days at Augusta in 2009 seems so far away. Meanwhile, the weather is taking a severe turn for the worse in Augusta in Round Two and it could force an early finish on Monday for the famous tournament. In SportsBiz: The winner of the 2023 Masters Tournament will pocket US$2.7Million. Tiger Woods was the first Green Jacket winner to crack the US$2M mark for winning his fifth Green Jacket in 2019. Woods was also the first to make over US$1M for winning the tournament in 2001 and when he won again in 2002. And to think that the first tournament winner in 1934 thought that he’d won a fortune with his US$1500 prize. For TEIVOVOsports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vinaka and thank you. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 06 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a partly cloudy but bright Good Friday morning 07 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby union and rugby league: After five years, three trials, nine months in prison, an appeal and for the second time, found guilty over the same incident - sexually assaulting a woman in 2018, Jarryd Hayne headed home to spend Easter with his family after he was let out on bail by Judge Graham Turnbull SC in a Sydney Court yesterday. Hayne will face court again on 08 May for sentencing. Meanwhile, the Storm cruised to a 28-8 win over the Roosters last night, on the back of a Cameron Munster master class and three tries from Xavier Coates at AAMI Park. With their third straight win, the Storm moved into the top four, while the chooks, who scored first, faded again. In Boxing: “I will give you every drop of sweat. Every drop of blood, every ounce of energy I have … you are going to get the absolute best of The Rock,” some 20 years later those words spoken by Dwayne Johnson at Wrestlemania, are inspiring Kiwi-Nigerian star, Israel Adesanya for his upcoming battle with Brazilian warrior, Alex Pereira in UFC287 on Sunday. In football: The biggest rivalry in Dutch football, between the two biggest cities in the Netherlands, with Feyenoord from Rotterdam hosting Ajax from Amsterdam, in a clash known as De Klassieker, delivered another ugly low as Feyenoord fans attacked Ajax player - former EPL star, Davy Klaassen who scored in the second half to make it 2-1 to the visitors. But when he celebrated near the corner flag, he was struck on the head by an object thrown from the crowd, causing his head to bleed and the crowd to go nuts, forcing the Referee to rush both teams off the field for nearly half an hour before play resumed after a Feyenoord Coach addressed his fans over the PA system, calling for calm. Meanwhile in the relative calm of the EPL, Marcus Rashford sent Manchester United back into the English Premier League Top Four with the winner, as the Red Devils beat Brentford 1-0, while Newcastle won 5-1 at West Ham to stay third above Man U on goal difference. And only in America: Attorneys representing two former college athletes filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA seeking retro-active educational payments for college athletes from 2018-2020.  They argued that in light of “the Alston ruling” — which allowed college athletes to profit off their name, image, and likeness — at least 5,000 and as many as 20,000 athletes are now owed back pay for the 2018 to 2020 seasons.   These same Attorneys, who won the Alston case in 2021, are claiming damages of at least US$200Million, and as much as US$1Billion for the affected college athletes. You just gotta ask – is this really for the benefit of the athletes, or er the lawyers In The Masters at Augusta, the Honourary Starters getting the 87th tournament officially underway early this morning, featured three-times winner from South Africa, Gary Player and six-time winning legend Jack Nicklaus, plus Tom Watson. Closer to home, Kiwi star, Ryan Fox who has played and won at the world famous Vatuwaqa Golf Course in Suva, Fiji is teeing off with his not so famous golfing Father as his caddy – former All Black, Grant Fox. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby league: Wests Tigers have announced they will be redesigning their 2023 ANZAC Round commemorative jersey, after eagle-eyed fans spotted an unforgiveable blunder, pointing out that the soldiers were in fact American based on their uniforms and weaponry, and NOT Australian or Kiwi troops. This after the Tigers claimed to have consulted the Australian Army about the jersey, to which the Army later responded that it was all one big fat lie, and in fact no such consultation ever took place. So have had to ditch 500 jerseys at a cost of A$75,000. Oh boy you just can’t make this up! In other news, after his outstanding start to the 2023 NRL season, the Dolphins have boosted their forward depth by locking up former Centre, Connelly Lemuelu with a contract extension which will see him stay with the Dolphins until the end of 2025. After the 12-round slugfest both fighters left the battlefield - the Eatons Hill Hotel on Brisbane’s north side, in separate ambulances for the nearest hospital. Ronaldo leads the Saudi league with 11 goals while Al Nassr sits second on the table, with Al Hilal seven points back in third. Geez that’s over a million US$ per day! Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 04 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this beautiful blue sky Wednesday morning 05 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! And we start with rugby – both union and league: Former Fiji Bati, Fiji 7s rep and NRL star, Jarryd Hayne has said he “did not lie or cover up evidence” after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at her Newcastle home almost five years ago. Following an 11 day trial in Sydney plus more than six days of deliberating, the jury of six men and six women found the two-time Dally M winner and ex-NFL convert guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. Hayne had pleaded not guilty and denied sexually assaulting the woman. His first trial in Newcastle in 2020 ended in a hung jury, while he was convicted at a second trial in March 2021 and sent to prison for nine months until he successfully appealed the decision.   He is facing a maximum possible sentence of 14 years in jail.   In Boxing: Tim Tszyu has told FOX Sports Australia that his blockbuster World title unification fight against Jermell Charlo has been delayed again as the American champ endures a longer-than-expected recovery from his broken left hand.   The undefeated Australian champ is frustrated by yet another delay – “how long can you keep postponing a fight, he says?”   But Tszyu refuses to stay idle, revealing that he will once again gamble on his unified world title shot with another fight in June before finally taking on the Super Welterweight King.   In SportsBiz: The National Women’s Soccer League is expanding into Northern California.   Global investment firm, Sixth Street is partnering with four former U.S. Women’s National Team players to bring a team to the Bay Area.   The expansion fee was US$53Million, a source with knowledge of the deal said — more than 10 times the fee paid for the Kansas City Current just last season.   Sixth Street has made more than US$1Billion in sports-related investments over the last two years.   In Football: Peru has been stripped of hosting the FIFA Under-17 Men's World Cup scheduled from 10 November, after the governing body said the South American nation failed to fulfill infrastructure commitments.   Last month Indonesia was stripped of hosting the FIFA Under-20 World Cup after the governor of Bali said that they would not host the team from Israel.   The FIFA Council will designate two new hosts.   For TEIVOVOsports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vinaka and thank you. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 03 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this beautiful overcast Tuesday morning 04 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! We start with rugby league: Despite another ripping NRL round with golden point field goal winner, somehow Wests Tigers CEO, Justin Pascoe managed to grab the headlines. Who is this guy? Justin Pascoe has been CEO at Wests Tigers since 2015; the Tigers finishing no better than 9th in 2016 and 16th with the wooden spoon in 2022. The legendary Jack Gibson said once that “Winning starts in the front office” and “Winning starts on Monday morning”. Last year when the Tigers were 0-5 their CEO thought it was a good idea to go on holidays to the Northern Territory for 10 days. Maybe we should all just relax? Meanwhile, Latrell Mitchell says it’s up to the NRL to decide how they’ll deal with the teenager who allegedly racially abused the South Sydney superstar last month at BlueBet Stadium. The incident received widespread condemnation, with calls for a lifetime ban from attending games. It was reported yesterday that the NRL wants Mitchell to meet the teenager so he can educate him on the consequences of racism, but the Rabbitohs star is against the idea, “I just want to focus on footy. It’s not my problem. I’ve just got to focus on my role here and not focus my energy on that. “It does hurt, but it is what it is.  In rugby union: Emoni Narawa has been quite brilliant for the Chiefs in Super Rugby Pacific so far this season. And the Fullback come Wing stamped his mark against the Blues last Saturday, scoring a double in another outstanding performance. With Sevu Reece out for the year, Narawa is an early “Johhny on the spot” ABs bolter. In Boxing: WWE has been sold and will now form a combat-sports beast with the UFC under its parent company, Endeavor Group. The deal, which was confirmed late last night, sees WWE and UFC join together in a new publicly traded combat sports and entertainment company, with WWE valued at US$9.3Billion after its stock finished trading on Friday at US$91.26 per share, while the UFC is valued at US$12.1B. In SportsBiz: Every US College Basketball Women’s Final Four takes place in an NBA and/or WNBA arena. This year’s location, the home of the Dallas Mavericks, hosts around 22,000 fans. The Men’s Final Four has been in a football stadium every year since 1997. Stadium hosting over 72,000 fans. Based on the hype and demand, the NCAA could fill a football stadium for a Women’s Final Four if it wanted to. The sellout semifinal crowd paid get-in prices of more than US$400. The Women’s Championship game will be the most expensive on record with prices starting at more than US$500 each. In Football: First it was Leicester City, who are now in danger of relegation after picking up just one point in six games. Then just hours later, came the sacking of Chelsea Manager, Graham Potter after just six months in charge as they slipped into the bottom half of the ladder. Remember, Potter went absolutely nuts in January, splashing out US$400Million in a record-breaking transfer window spending spree. Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 02 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this beautiful blue sky sunny and bright Monday morning 03 April 2023. Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! And we start with rugby union: Fijiana were robbed of the bronze medal by biased refereeing in their game against Great Britain in the Hong Kong 7s last night. Ahead 19-17 after the fulltime siren, the referee blew five consecutive penalties against Fijiana until Great Britain won. At least three of them were plainly wrong. Team Fijiana were robbed by biased refereeing. New Zealand cruised to victory in both the Women’s and Men’s finals of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong 7s to increase their leads at the top of the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series 2023 standings. New Zealand women beat Australia 17-26 and the All Blacks 7s beat Fiji 17-24 to win their first Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong 7s title since 2014. France beat Great Britain 17-19 for the bronze medal. Team Fijiana came 4th after losing to Great Britain and Samoa came 8th after losing to Ireland 19-17 at the Hong Kong 7s yesterday. In Rugby League: Canterbury Bulldogs star, Josh Addo-Carr scored in the 80th minute, but Matt Burton’s sideline conversion to win the game hit the post. The duo then combined in the 85th minute when Addo-Carr made a break downfield to put Burton in position to kick the winning field goal in golden point from way out wide to seal an incredible 15-14 comeback win over the Cowboys last night. New Zealand Warrior Shaun Johnson slotted the match-winning penalty in a mammoth comeback win against the Sharks yesterday. The Kiwi star had only beaten Cronulla once in 10 attempts, but Johnson led from the front, before sealing victory with only 30 seconds remaining. In Boxing: Anthony Joshua won a boring fight by unanimous decision against American Jermaine Franklin in London yesterday. In fact the punches AJ and the American threw in the scuffle after Round 12, which spilled out ringside, roused the loudest cheers of the night. In Football: With just 10 games left in the English season, Leicester City has sacked their Manager, Brendan Rogers to try and save their Premier League status, following a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace that saw them drop into the bottom three relegation zone for the first time since October 2022. Liverpool went in front through Mohamed Salah’s 23rd goal of the season but Man City was simply too good and thrashed Liverpool 1-4 on Saturday, but remain eight points adrift of Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League after Gabriel Jesus scored twice in the Gunners 4-1 win over Leeds. City was a class apart, imagine the score if Erling Haaland had played? In other sports news: There was total chaos at the Australian Grand Prix yesterday which saw three red flags and a dramatic conclusion, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen eventually claiming victory - his first ever win in Melbourne and Red Bull’s first there since Sebastian Vettel won there in 2011. Verstappen won from Sir Lewis Hamilton in second and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso third. When will we see a big Fijian, Samoan or Tongan in the front row of F1 – er on the grid I mean! Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! And we start with rugby union: Cathay HSBC Hong Kong 7s 2023 Day One in the Women’s competition: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and France ended day one with perfect win records, so the USA and Australia qualify for the Olympic Games rugby 7s in Paris 2024, joining New Zealand and hosts France. Pasifika Day one scores saw Fijiana 17-7 Ireland, Australia 43-5 Brazil, NZ 50-0 Hong Kong China, Fijiana 35-7 Brazil, Australia 19-12 Ireland and NZ 43-0 Great Britain. In Boxing: Anthony Joshua has laughed off Jermaine Franklin’s threat of a knockout in their fight in London on Sunday, with the former World Heavyweight Champion insisting the American has picked the “worst time” to face him. In fact, Joshua has promised to retire if he loses to Franklin. In SportsBiz: the NFL could join every other major US sports league – like Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the NBA, Major League Soccer and others in allowing institutional investors such as private equity firms and sovereign wealth funds to purchase stakes in their teams, according to Bloomberg. With team values rising, the number of potential buyers and minority owners has dwindled. No major US sports league allows private firms to own a majority share in a team, but many have found it to be a useful path to liquidate part of a team’s value. In Football: Manchester United turned a US$7.8Million net profit for the quarter ending December 2022 — a great turnaround from a US$1.7M loss for the same period in 2021, thanks to a 22% year-over-year increase in commercial revenue to US$97.5M. The profit was also put down due to lower wages after one Mr. Ronaldo departed, plus strong ticket sales of 2.3 million sold in the 2022-23 season, helped by Man U winning the Carabao Cup in February, making the FA Cup semi-finals in April, and currently sitting third in the Premier League.
