The third in the Batman film franchise saw Joel Schumacher take over for Tim Burton and even saw a new Batman actor with Val Kilmer. A box office success the film received abysmal reviews, but perhaps critics at the time were too harsh. The film combined the campiness of the 60s TV show and and silver age comics with the dark gritty tone of the previous two entries and writers like Frank Miller's darker takes on the character. Taking it's title from Chaucer's "The Knight's Tale," this 2001 film tells the tale of a young man who sets out to change his destiny and become a knight. Told in an anachronistic style with modern music, this film was directed by Brian Helgeland and stars a young; Heath Ledger, Shannyn Sossaom, Alan Tyduk, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, with Paul Bettany as Geoffrey Chaucer and James Purefoy as Prince Edward the Black Knight.
