Mai Tamimi is from Palestine and is now a New Zealand citizen. She has worked supporting women in both countries and is passionate about encouraging refugee women to find and use their voices help themselves and their families as they adapt to their new culture and surroundings. We talked with Hannah Higgison about her studies in Sociology and Te Reo Māori at Victoria University including her learning about the links between colonisation and capitalism, the history we're taught in school, and the importance of learning outside of university and from wider sources and experiences. We also went into the importance of good teachers and the power and influence that teachers have in our lives.
