I went to find out about the fundraising (Skate @ Bell Center, you can now purchase tickets by calling (514) 931-8731 ext. 1205.) being done at Dawson and I ran into Nancy Wood and her Cameraman from CBC.ca at the Arena, There is one great story now on the cbc website. http://www.cbc.ca/clips/rm-hi/wood-dawsonshoot-070219.rm (if that doesn't work, just go to www.cbc.ca/sports) It seems the team is becoming very newsworthy, CTV.ca has been out to Dawson also. This news release is a part of the reason for all the Hype.... MONTREAL, Feb. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - An agreement signed today by Richard Filion, Director General of Dawson College. and Pierre Boivin, President of the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club, establishes the Montreal Canadiens Dawson Women's Hockey Fund to award scholarships to graduating students playing for the Dawson Blues women's hockey team who plan to continue their academic and hockey careers at university. "The inspiration for this award was the tragedy of September 13 and our will, shared by Dawson, to promote women's sports and academic performance," said Pierre Boivin. The Dawson Women's Hockey team was started in 1998 as a Club team playing exhibition games only and joined the league in 1999. The league has now expanded to 10 teams and Dawson is having an undefeated season to date in 2007. They have come a long way since their beginning when wins were very hard to come by. Each year the team takes a trip to play in a tournament during the holidays and has won in Michigan, San Jose, Connecticut, New York, and Calgary. If your a forward you can have the element of surprise if you go ahead and use your defense. Make sure you have a proper passing lane to the tape on the defenseman's stick, and make eye contact to be sure the defenseman is ready for your pass. Then keep the puck on the ice and give the defenseman a quick pass. The defenseman can often sneek in deeper into the zone and fire. If your a winger in your defensive zone, you want to get there before the puck does or before the shot get s fired. Enjoy the action at an Arena near You !!!
