Or rather it’s all about different English words for smell. First of all the word ‘smell’. Smell is fairly neutral. You can use smell for good things and for bad things. So you might say ‘the smell of freshly baked bread’, or ‘the smell of freshly made coffee’. These are pleasant smells. We were driving in the car and he asked me the following question. ‘Mum, I’m puzzled by a word in the dictionary which is spelt S-E-W. How do you say that and what does it mean?’ So I explained to him – and when I explained it, he knew the word very well already - it was the spelling, the way the word is written that was confusing him. I’ve recently booked to go on Eurostar, the train service which runs through the channel tunnel, so I thought it might be interesting to do a podcast about Eurotunnel. If you’re in Europe and particularly if you are in the UK or France, you will no doubt have heard of Eurotunnel and you may also have travelled in it. If you’re elsewhere in the world, you may only have heard of it. If you look at a map of Europe and you imagine a line between the south east coast of England to the north west coast of France – that’s where the Eurotunnel is. It’s a tunnel under the sea.
