Ghostly show

Ghostly

Summary: The truth is often hard to find. This can be especially true when talking about ghost stories and paranormal events. Ghostly Podcast takes a deeper look into these stories in a bi-weekly podcast. Each episode, we tell a ghost story – one that some believe is true. Talk about the history and then, we will debate the facts of that story. From the most popular ones - to ones that are more obscure, each story will be explored from/using whatever evidence can be found. Expect arguments, jokes, and, sometimes, maybe, an agreement.

 005 Paranormal Illumination Society | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:43

The life of a paranormal investigator is fascinating. Holly gives all the details on what it’s like to be a ghost hunter, traveling around to haunted houses and places, helping those that are troubled by spirits. She explains the best techniques for communicating with ghosts and how to make sure they don’t come home with you. There’s a lot more to the job of a Paranormal Investigator than you might think!   Holly also goes through all the different equipment they use and how it works. It’s a good thing, too, because the stories Ghostly has coming up in the new year definitely might involve some of this equipment! And, it’s great to have the perspective of a Paranormal Investigator from time to time. Also included in this episode are poll results from our previous episode on Christmas Ghost Stories (check it out here if you haven’t had a chance to listen yet). Be sure to vote on this episode’s poll and let us know what you thought of the interview! Done listening to the episode? Please subscribe to Ghostly and give us a rating on iTunes.  004 In the Spirit of Christmas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:18

In Ghostly’s fourth episode, Pat and Rebecca revive an old English tradition lost over the years, Christmas ghost stories. They, along with Pat’s friend Mondo, share three Christmas ghost tales guaranteed to make the listener want to curl up in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate while being transported to the Christmas spirit realm. Telling these stories was tradition for many years not just around Halloween, but also around the holidays. As far back as Shakespeare, the English told ghost stories to celebrate the Christmas season (it’s not a coincidence that A Christmas Carol, a ghost story, is one of the most famous holiday stories). The American Puritans stopped this tradition, but now Ghostly is bring it back. Read this Smithsonian article to learn more about the tradition. Highwayman and Doctor Syntax Mondo tells the first story, “The Highwayman of Kent.” Learn the history of highwaymen before hearing the terrifying tale of a father, his daughter, and their encounter late one Christmas Eve with a highwayman up to no good.  View of Bramshill from George Prosser Select Illustrations of Hampshire (1834-39) Rare Books Cope quarto 91.5 The Mistletoe Bride Rebecca tells our second legend, set in Victorian England. “The Mistletoe Bride” is a special Christmas story of a wedding gone very, very wrong. Learn about one of the most haunted homes in Britain and about old English wedding traditions before hearing about the fate of the mistletoe bride! Photo of the Rouse Simmons/Captain Santa  Christmas Tree Schooner by Charles Vickery. (Courtesy of the Clipper Ship Gallery, LaGrange, IL)   In our third and final tale, Pat brings us back to Chicago and the story of “Captain Santa and the Christmas Ship.” Hear the fascinating history of Captain Herman E. Schuenemann and his Christmas tree business in downtown Chicago. Then listen to the tragic story of what happened to the captain and his ship one fateful trip on Lake Michigan.  Also included in this episode are poll results from our previous episode on Bachelor’s Grove (check it out here if you haven’t had a chance to listen yet).  003 Bachelor’s Grove | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:45

In Ghostly’s third episode, Pat and Rebecca explore one of the most famous and potentially haunted cemeteries in America, or possibly even in the world: Bachelor’s Grove in Cook County, Illinois. Bachelor’s Grove is both a cemetery and a part of the Rubio Woods Forest Preserve. Listen to this episode to learn about this mysterious place. A warning before listening – this show has a high creepiness factor! Questions explored in this episode: What are some of the most famous ghost stories told about Bachelor’s Grove? What can we learn from the history of the land?  How did the area get its name? What compelling evidence have people shared to prove Bachelor’s Grove is haunted? What eerie experiences did Pat and Rebecca have themselves while visiting Bachelor’s Grove? And the big one: Is Bachelor’s Grove a haunted place? Infant Daughter Grave To help you decide whether or not Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery is haunted, there are also several special interviews. In one, Holly from the Paranormal Illumination Society gives advice on how to have a good experience when visiting a place rumored to be haunted. In another, Karl and Wendy from thepathtobachelorsgrove.com share their personal experience and knowledge about Bachelor’s Grove.   In his interview, Karl mentions a famous picture of the Lady in White, or the Madonna of Bachelor’s Grove. Rebecca and Pat also discuss the picture. The paranormal photo was taken by Judy Huff of the Paranormal Research Society in 1991.  Photo taken on Pat and Rebecca’s visit Paranormal Research Society Photo Rebecca needs your help in examining three photos she took while in the woods. In the first two, you’ll notice a red object in the upper right-hand corner, but in the third, it’s missing. What is this object? Is it a real thing? An orb? If it’s real, who put it there, so high up? Why is it missing in the third photo? Why is it red? What could cause this to happen? Photo 1 Taken by Rebecca at Bachelor’s Grove Photo 2 Taken by Rebecca at Bachelor’s Grove Photo 3 Taken by Rebecca at Bachelor’s Grove Also included in this episode are, as always, poll results from our previous episode on The Italian Bride (check it out here if you haven’t had a chance to listen yet) and a brand new segment: The Closing Arguments, where both Pat and Rebecca will have one uninterrupted minute each to sum up their arguments and convince you of their side.  Be sure to vote on whether or not Bachelor’s Grove is haunted. Click here to vote if you don’t see the poll: https://ghostlypodcast.com/polls/ Done listening to the episode? Julia Buccola Letta – The Italian Bride In Ghostly’s second episode, Pat and Rebecca explore the story of the Italian Bride.  Julia Buccola Petta’s tragic story extends beyond her death during childbirth at the age of 29.  After her original burial in Mount Caramel Cemetery, her mother, Filomena, claims to have been visited by Julia’s ghost in her dreams, telling her mother to disinter her body.  What happened after her mother dug up her daughter’s body?  001 Resurrection Mary | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:35

In Ghostly’s debut episode, Pat and Rebecca explore the legend of Resurrection Mary.  The stories regarding Mary and her many hauntings stretch back to the 1930’s (or maybe even further back…)  Join us as we tell her story and debate what is fact and what is fiction.  Who was she?  Does she really haunt Archer Avenue?  How does her tale fit not only with Chicago’s history but also the “Vanishing Hitchhiker” legend?  Find out our answers to these questions and more on this first full episode of Ghostly podcast! Archer Avenue is known as being one of the most haunted roads in all of the world. Mary is one of its many stories. But, can the story of Resurrection Mary really stand up to debate? This is what Pat and Rebecca set out to find out in Ghostly’s first episode ever. We look into all the possible Mary’s throughout Resurrection Cemetery. She may not be who you think she is. This legend might somehow even pre-date the famous Mary’s that we mention. Mary, might not even be the name of this ghost. This is what is talked about in this episode, as well as so much more. Who is this Mary of Resurrection Cemetery? Does she still haunt Archer Avenue? Are there stories about other hitchhikers that may haunt the world? How old was Mary? Did she die on her Birthday? What about the man that went to her parent’s house only to find out that she had died many years before? Chet’s Melody Lounge Resurrection Mary is one of the Ghost Stories all Chicagoland area kids learn about. She has been the subject of many books, tv shows, and even movies. There are many different versions of Mary’s story. Did she get into an accident after having a fight with her boyfriend at the now burned down Willowbrook Ballroom? Or, was she buried in Resurrection Cemetery? The different Mary’s have very different stories.  Preview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:16

While Rebecca is away, Patrick decided to upload a sneak peek preview into all that is Ghostly. Since Episode One will not be out until Halloween, I thought I’d give you a little taste of what we are doing with this preview episode. Not every episode will be done the same way. We are able to do interviews for this episode because they are close to where we are located. Special thanks to the people that allowed us to interview them for this preview episode: Stephen Dakota, Lynn Martin, and Mallory Carroll tell us if they believe in ghosts and why. At a Coffee House near the location of the famed Willbrook Ball Room. (We don’t want to promote this business as the Barista was not very nice to us.) We really enjoyed our interview with Carli Rodack and Buddy. This is just a preview of what you will find in our first episode. Austin Rivers for all the help setting everything up and coming along with us for the interviews. And, for shooting video (more on this in a later post). Last, but not least by any means the amazing Michael Rivers for finding and performing our beautiful but creepy Intro and Outro music. He is so talented. Ghostly would not sound as good without him.
