When Men Become Gods: Mormon Polygamist Warren Jeffs, His Cult of Fear, and the Women Who Fought Back | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3625

New York Times bestselling author Stephen Singular provides an inside look at the Mormon polygamist sect that made headlines in 2008 for coercing young girls into marriage, and the story of their ruthless leader, Warren Jeffs. As the self-proclaimed prophet of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints, Warren Jeffs held sway over thousands of followers for nearly a decade. His rule was utterly tyrannical. In addition to coercing young girls into marriages with older men, Jeffs reputedly took scores of wives, many of whom were his father's widows. But in 2007, after landing on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, Jeffs's reign was forcefully ended. He would be imprisoned for committing rape as an accomplice. In When Men Become Gods, Edgar Award–nominee Stephen Singular traces Jeffs's rise to power and the concerted effort that led to his downfall. Newly updated, it describes the controversial 2008 raid on Jeffs's Texas compound and the fate of the 439 children taken from the sect. It offers readers a rare glimpse into a tradition that's almost a century old, but has only now been exposed.

Shooting of Oscar Grant | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3663

Oscar Grant III was a 22-year-old African-American man who was killed in the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2009 by BART Police Officer Johannes Mehserle in Oakland, California. Responding to reports of a fight on a crowded Bay Area Rapid Transit train returning from San Francisco, BART Police officers detained Grant and several other passengers on the platform at the Fruitvale BART Station. BART officer Anthony Pirone kneed Grant in the head and forced Grant to lie face down on the platform. Mehserle drew his pistol and shot Grant. Grant was rushed to Highland Hospital in Oakland and pronounced dead later that day. The events were captured on multiple official and private digital video and privately owned cell phone cameras. Owners disseminated their footage to media outlets and to various websites where it went viral. Both peaceful and violent protests took place in the following days.

Monique El-Faizy All the President's Women: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3604

With groundbreaking interviews, behind-the-scenes reporting, and never-before-seen photos, All the President's Women records 43 new allegations of sexual misconduct against President Trump. During his 2016 presidential run, the revelation of the Access Hollywood tape and subsequent allegations of sexual misconduct lodged against Donald Trump looked like they might doom his candidacy. Trump survived, and the first two years of the real estate scion's presidency were marked not by controversy over his behavior around women but by the Mueller investigation. So far, Trump has dodged the #MeToo bullet that has taken down so many once-powerful men. But despite the decades of tabloid fascination with his personal life, the story of Trump's relationship with women has never been fully told. Considering his bully pulpit in the White House, the reckoning is overdue. All the President's Women offers the most detailed account yet of Trump's history with women, dating back to his childhood and high school days through his rise in real estate, reality TV, and politics. This book will show that Trump's behavior goes far beyond occasional "locker-room talk" and unwanted advances. Barry Levine and Monique El-Faizy detail more than a dozen new allegations against Trump, including a disturbing attack on a woman at Mar-a-Lago, an incident at a private Manhattan sex club involving a teenage girl, as well as Trump's behavior at fashion shows and beauty pageants--events that gave the future president a hunting ground to harass young women.

Tasha Adams Ex of Oathkeepers Founder Stewart Rhodes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3510

ThatGirlTasha.com https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-me-divorce-oath-keeper-leader-stewart-rhodes I have been legally separated and trying to complete the divorce process with my now infamous soon-to-be-ex-husband, Stewart Rhodes, for over four years now. My case has been sealed and I am currently not allowed to discuss it publicly., however, I can say that my former law firm dropped me (rightfully, I suppose) as a client since I could not keep currant with regular payments to them. I burned quickly through my initial $5,000 down payment/retainer and racked up an additional $12,000 (give or take with late fees and such) fairly quickly without ever coming close finalizing the divorce or reaching any sort of permanent financial or custodial agreement. I would first have to pay off my outstanding legal fees from my former law firm. I would then have to find a Montana licensed attorney willing to represent me. [Edit; I do now have a lawyer!} It's certainly not easy to find a lawyer willing to go head to head against a person who is not only a graduate of Yale Law but also commands their own private army, as well as having access to a team of equally infamous attorneys surrounding him; nonetheless, I am confident that somewhere out there is an advocate willing to be my huckleberry. I'm not looking for an overly expensive knock-down drag-out, just a simple and safe plan and a basic financial agreement (we have no assets to even argue about) and in all likelihood it will be settled out of court. I still have four school age children at home and the experience of switching over from a completely isolated lifestyle to becoming active thriving members of the community for my kids and I has run the gamut emotion wise. It has been at times; bumpy, scary, exhilarating, daunting, but all of it has taken a lot of work, diligence and a bit more tenacity than I thought I possessed. Some of the process of re-joining life (think applying for kids' social security numbers, birth certificates, school, joining sports programs) has been costly and time consuming and also been about three years worth of paperwork, but we've gotten through it. For obvious reasons I am very very hesitant to go public with this, but after a whole lot of thought, I feel I just can not move forward any other way. I am feeling a bit embolden by the spotlight now on the STBX, and without going into specifics I'm hoping that keeps anything too crazy from happening. Though I can't talk about the details of my marriage here, I can tell you that it was likely about exactly what you're picturing, but probably quite a bit weirder. It also seems like a lot of money to ask for, but judging alone from the cost of the first round, I think that is the cost I should expect. My funding goals: 1. Pay back what I owe to former law firm. 2. Retainer for a new super hero attorney. 3. Finalize the divorce. 4. I hope donors are all right with my using some donations for basic needs; getting caught up with utilities, basic living or car repairs - my truck, Ole' Bessie has 265,000 miles on her and needs a bit of help now and then. There are no words I can think of to fully describe how grateful I would be if my kids and I were able to leave the old world fully behind; to be legally divorced. I would be able to move forward without still feeling shackled. Any little bit would help. If only a fraction this amount were raised it would be a tremendous help. -Tasha

The Girl on the Stairs: My Search For A Missing Witness To The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3608

On November 22, 1963, a young Victoria Elizabeth Adams stood behind a fourth-floor window of the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas. She watched as John Kennedy was murdered in the streets below. Then, with a co-worker in tow, she ran down the back stairs of the building in order to get outside and determine what had happened. At that precise moment, her life changed forever. Her actions posed serious problems for the Warren Commission, already grappling with its agenda of naming Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone assassin. If Miss Adams was telling the truth, then she had descended those stairs at the same time Oswald would have been on them as he made his escape from the sixth floor sniper's nest. Yet Miss Adams saw no one. And even though the stairs were old, wooden, and creaky under any weight, she heard no one either. When Miss Adams was called to testify before a Commission attorney, she was quickly discredited, humiliated, and eventually branded a liar. Behind closed doors she pleaded with the government to conduct time tests of her actions if she was felt to have been inaccurate. She begged the government to question her co-workers, particularly the woman who had accompanied her down the stairs, if she was not believed. Instead, she was ignored. And so, knowing the truth of what she had done and now fearing for her life because of it, she went into hiding and became willing to die with that secret knowledge. Intrigued by what little was available about Miss Adams, the author went in search of her. It took him 35 years to eventually find this elusive witness. As his journey progressed, many questions arose about the assassination while others were put to rest. And in the end, the truth of what Miss Adams did was finally discovered. This is an important story, unique in this mess that continues to surround Kennedy's death. It is a story that has been buried for decades. It is an account the government did not want you to hear, and actually fabricated evidence in order to keep you from hearing it. Now, the truth can be told.
