Standing Post

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist truck bombing on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, on April 19, 1995. The bombing happened at 9:02 a.m. and killed at least 168 people, injured more than 680 others, and destroyed one-third of the building. Among those who were killed, the Secret Service lost that day: Special Agent Cynthia Brown, Special Agent Donald Leonard, Special Agent Mickey Maroney, Office Manager Linda McKinney, Investigative Assistant Kathy Seidl, and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alan Whicher. The host of Standing Post, Cody Starken, had the honor of interviewing 4 surviving family members of individuals who perished on that day. Ep. #019 - This month we speak to Senior Special Agent William “Willie” Wind about his liaison work with Native American law enforcement and tribal gaming entities in Oklahoma and his Financial and Electronic Crimes Task Force work. He began his Secret Service career in 1997 as a Special Agent in the Tulsa (OK) Resident Agency. He worked there until 2001 when he was reassigned to the Forensic Services Division as a polygraph examiner in the Houston (TX) Field Office. Since 2010, Wind was selected for the collateral duty as the Special Emphasis Program Manager for American Indians/Alaska Natives in the Secret Service. He has served in this role since 2010 where he is responsible for identifying agency policies, procedures, and practices that adversely impact American Indians/Alaska Natives within the USSS. As of 2020, SSA Wind works out of the Oklahoma City Field Office where he is currently the back-up supervisor for the United States Secret Service Oklahoma Financial and Electronic Crimes Task Force. SSA Wind was also responsible for the coordination of initiatives mandated by the Department of Homeland Security and the White House which led to him co-developing the US Secret Service’s Wounded Warrior and Military Spouse Mentorship Program (a pilot program) and being requested by the White House to be a speaker at President Obama’s White House Tribal Youth Summit. Episode #018 - Back in May 2017, the Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Miami Dade Police Department were notified by Target Special Investigators regarding several suspects impersonating Target headquarters’ employees who called stores around the U.S. to get employees to load money on Target gift cards to purchase and sell items at a later date. Our guest this month work for more than a year and a half on the case, which resulted in Operations Benefactor and Dejavu to bring in these fraudsters into custody. Episode #013 - Please welcome Medal of Honor Recipient Special Agent Ronald J Shurer II. SA Shurer is a current member of the Secret Service Counter Assault Team (CAT) and is a former United States Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant and Medic. As a senior medical sergeant during the Battle of Shok Valley in April 2008, he and his team were attacked by an enemy force of more than 200 fighters. Shurer fought more than an hour to reach parts of his unit. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions. On October 1, 2018, he was upgraded and awarded the Medal of Honor from President Donald Trump at a ceremony in the White House for his courageous and brave efforts helping to save the lives of his team. Episode #011 - Please welcome Investigative Analyst Ryan Heethius of the Paris Field Office. IA Heethius is under the Investigative Support Division (ISD) for the Office of Investigations. Ryan has worked in many different cases to include, counterfeit operations, money laundering, homicide, and cybercrime. The role of an Investigative Analysts are multi-faceted, consisting of broad-based criminological research, link analysis, intelligence data gathering, performing complex statistical analysis and trend forecasting for criminal and protective intelligence, develops curricula for and provides high-quality training for investigators, researchers, and support staff. IAs also travel frequently to support field offices and task forces, often assisting with search warrants and asset forfeiture. The work of IAs involve extensive knowledge of criminological theories, research methodologies, and the development and use of investigative and intelligence systems and analysis of investigative cases such as; financial crimes, access device fraud, telecom fraud, high-tech crimes, counterfeit U.S. currency and obligations, and protective intelligence.
