In this episode, I cover the period when Alexander expanded the Greek kingdom to its largest extent, from Europe to North Africa, and as far east as parts of India. And then, quite unexpectedly and at the young age of 32, he died. And without a clear heir. The formerly great kingdom was plunged into civil war. In this episode, I cover the defeat of the Persians by the Macedonians, led by Alexander the Great. At the time, Persia was ruled by Darius the 3rd. The Persians and the Greeks would fight several great battles. I cover several of these, including the Battle at Gaza, which would give the Greeks control of Egypt. Alexander would journey to the African nation, initiate the building of Alexandria, the return to defeat Darius and take control of the whole Persian Empire. In this episode, I continue to work my way through the period when Egypt was ruled by the Persians, then were briefly independent, only to be subjugated by the Persians again. This period included many conflicts with the Persians, and two different native Pharaohs who would flee their own country. One escaping to his sworn enemy, the Persians, and the other to Nubia. In this episode, I continue to work my way through the period when Egypt was ruled by the Persians. Beginning at the end of Artaxerxes’s reign with his successor Xerxes the 2nd, through a progression of short-lived rulers. Egypt would gain independence under Pharaoh Amyrtaeus, the only ruler of the 28th Dynasty. He was succeeded by Nepherites of the 29th Dynasty who would continue to battle the Persians for Egyptian independence. I continue through the reign of Pharaoh Nectanebo. In this episode, I work my way through the period when Egypt was ruled by the Persians. Beginning at the end of Darius’s reign, through Xerxes, including a summary of the war with Greece, the assassination of Xerxes, and through the end of Artaxerxes rule. I also cover what is known about the satrap’s who governed Egypt and the internal rebellions in that ancient kingdom. In this episode, I finish the history of the 26th Dynasty, the last native rulers for a bit. I then start on the reign of the Persians, which are considered the 27th Dynasty. In this episode, I wrap up the 25th and make significant progress through the 26th Dynasties of the 3rd Intermediate Period. And, in the transition from the 25th to 26th, I have to backtrack, so the episode covers ancient Egypt between 664 to 589 BC. During this period, power shifted back from Nubia to the Delta region. Interactions with the Assyrians, Judeans, and Babylonians were frequent, and one of the Pharaohs, Necho the 2nd, merited several mentions in the Old Testament.  3.45 The 3rd Intermediate Period Part 3: The 23rd, 24th, and 25th Dynasties | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, I make my way through the 23rd, 24th, and partially through the 25th Dynasties of the 3rd Intermediate Period. Essentially ancient Egypt from 837 to 664 BC. During this period, power shifted from the northern region to Nubia, but not before a few competing rulers would try to seize the whole land. The Assyrians were the rising power in the northeast, and Egypt’s clashes with the Assyrians were recorded not only in Egypt, but also in the books of 2nd Kings and Isaiah, as well as Greek records.  Listen to learn how all of this unfolded. In this episode, I cover the 22nd Dynasty’s reign during the 3rd Intermediate Period. This is the period from about 945 to 720 BC. There were sporadic interactions with the Hebrews in Canaan during this period, some of which merited brief mentions in the Old Testament. But, towards the end of the dynasty, the rulers of Lower Egypt would fall to the former vassal state of Kush, aka Nubia. Listen to learn how all of this unfolded. In this episode, I wrap up the New Kingdom, covering Ramses 10 and 11. And when 11 died, so did the New Kingdom, plunging the declining country into the 3rd Intermediate Period. This period begins with the 21st Dynasty, and I manage to make it through these leaders and into the 22nd. Two of these rulers, one from the 21st and the other from the 22nd, are potentially mentioned in the Old Testament. Listen to find out the roles they played. In this episode, I continue working my way through the ancient Egyptian New Kingdom, beginning in the 20th Dynasty. And, I make it from Pharaoh Setnakhte then Ramses the 3rd through Ramses the 9th. So, the period of 1189 to 1111 BC. I also cover the apparently self-made Egyptian governor of Canaan, a man known as Irsu. Next week, I’ll finish the 20th Dynasty and begin the 21st. In this episode, I continue working my way through the ancient Egyptian New Kingdom, the remaining Pharaohs of the 19th Dynasty: Merneptah, Seti II, Amenmesse, Siptah, and Queen Twosret. So, the period of 1213 to 1189 BC. These rulers, while none reigned for any great period, did have a lasting impression of the history of Egypt. I also dive into a foreign leader who would rise to great power in Egypt, only to have a rapid fall leading to his execution. In this episode, I continue working my way through the ancient Egyptian New Kingdom, covering the domestic policy and accomplishments of Ramesses the 2nd. Ramesses the Great ruled between 1279 and 1213 BC. He built many temples, palaces, and other structures, but unfortunately, few have stood the test of time. While covering the entire reign of Seti, time permits me to only cover the foreign exploits of Rameses. And this included many legendary military campaigns in Canaan.
