Director Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys, The U, Broke, and Dawg Fight) stopped by the Collider offices to talk to Marc Fernandez and John Rocha about his new documentary Screwball. The film recounts the unbelievable insanity surrounding the high-profile doping scandal led by Tony Bosch that ended up engulfing Major League Baseball, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Ryan Braun and countless other players. Billy reveals how he came up with his unique concept of using child actors to play the myriad of adult characters involved in this story. He taks about how close he came to making an Alex Rodriguez documentary during the height of his arbitration with MLB over his steroid use. He also retells the winding and incredible journey he went on that led to the creation of this documentary. The documentary has been compared to the best of Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen except that this is a true story and not one made up to sell books! Corben is an energetic, engaging and incredibly funny director which made for a great interview here. Also, if you’re an MLB fan this one is gonna blow your mind. The film opens up in select cities on March 29th and will be available on VOD on April 5th.
