Walker John Wilsey is a Georgia native whose research interests lie in the historical interaction between nationalism and Christian theology. He is also interested in the history of ideas in the Christian west, especially with regard to the church’s engagement with politics, Enlightenment thought, religious freedom, and diplomacy. Wilsey served as the 2017-18 William E. Simon Visiting Fellow in Religion and Public Life with the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, where he conducted research for a religious biography of John Foster Dulles, secretary of state in the Eisenhower Administration. The Dulles work will appear soon alongside other works in the Library of Religious Biography series published by Eerdmans. He is the author of One Nation Under God: An Evangelical Critique of Christian America (Pickwick, 2011), American Exceptionalism and Civil Religion: Reassessing the History of an Idea (IVP Academic, 2015), and editor of an abridged edition of Alexis de Tocqueville’s classic work, Democracy in America (1835-40) titled Democracy in America: A New Abridgment for Students (Lexham, 2016). Matthew J. Franck is the Director of the William E. and Carol G. Simon Center on Religion and the Constitution. He is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Radford University, where he taught constitutional law, American politics, and political philosophy from 1989-2010. He is also a Visiting Lecturer in Politics at Princeton University. As director of the center, he helps maintain the Witherspoon Institute’s relationships with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, the Alliance Defending Freedom, the American Religious Freedom Program at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, and the Religious Freedom Project of Georgetown University. Franck earned his B.A. in political science (magna cum laude) from Virginia Wesleyan College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Northern Illinois University.  He was a Henry J. Salvatori Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, 1993-95, J. William Fulbright Professor of American Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, 1998, and a Visiting Fellow in the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, 2008-09. Her area of specialization is 18th century British literature where she focuses on philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics. Christopher graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 2005, Wheaton College Graduate School in 2007 with a Master of Arts in Biblical Exegesis and received his doctorate of ministry in 2014 from Bethel Seminary.
