Episode 45: How to Honor Your Pace and STOP "Should-ing" All Over Yourself | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:28:00

This episode is on a topic that’s very near and dear to my heart. I’m diving into how to “honor your pace” or simply put: How to stop obsessing over self-imposed timelines when it comes to your career and life. There’s a post on my Instagram account about my struggle with honoring my pace that really resonates with the people that read it. It seems like more than just a few people can relate to feeling like they need to accomplish this or that by the time they’re X years old. As a career coach, I speak to women from various walks of life in different spaces in their career and no matter how different each of their career stories are, the one constant is the fact that they all feel they aren’t progressing through their career as quickly as they feel they “should”. In this episode, I’m going to break down the pitfalls of living in your “shoulds” and give you practical ways you can work toward honoring the pace things are unfolding in your own life. P.S.  Episode 44: How to Know When It's Time to Leave a Workspace You've Outgrown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:40:48

As a HR leader and career strategist, I’ve spoken to thousands of women over the past decade at various stages in their career. While each woman’s experience is unique, I’ve been able to categorize the challenges women face in their professional journeys into a few main themes. One theme that comes up a lot in my work is overcoming the challenge of leaving a job/career/company that no longer serves you. In fact, of the 100 women who’ve applied to have a free career exploration call with me since February of this year, an overwhelming majority of applicants list some variation of this as a main career challenge they’re facing: “Exiting a work space I’ve outgrown”. With all the challenges women - especially Black women - face in their careers, it’s no surprise they’re having trouble making the leap to bigger and better opportunities at work. In this episode, I’m discussing 1) how to know you’ve outgrown your current work space, 2) why it’s hard for you to walk away from that space even when you know you should and 3) what steps you can take once you’re finally ready to move on to the next phase in your career. If you’re on the fence about staying or leaving your current work situation, this episode is just for you! P.S. If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate and review on iTunes.

Episode 41: How To Be A Bride In Your Love Life And In Your Career | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:01

Hey Career Girl Nation! This is an episode you don’t want to miss. I get to interview Charreah Jackson, author of the new book Boss Bride: The Powerful Woman’s Playbook for Love and Success. Charreah has spent more than 10 years researching healthy relationships and careers. She’s also a senior editor for Essence magazine, and her stories have been featured on CNN, NBC, Time Fortune, and more. Being a “boss bride” is all about a a state of mind. It starts with finding the parallels between your work and home life, and merging them into one. Over 50% of households have a female who is making all the money, or a “female breadwinner” so to speak. It’s the new normal, and yet hiring managers are still basing their decisions on your social status in life. Are you engaged? Planning a wedding? Married? There’s also a struggle with finding the right partner in your life, and it’s not a choice that should be taken lightly. You need to be strategic and intentional with your romantic life, in the same ways you approach your professional life. If you want to be a boss at your love life and your job, episode 40 is a must listen!

Episode 40: How To Prevent Burnout In Your Career | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:30

Hey Career Girl Nation! Today’s episode is all about burnout. It’s a real thing. I’ve experienced burnout myself for a few months. I was falling asleep constantly, in a constant state of stress, and I just didn’t have it in me anymore. Being burned out in your career is serious. I got an overwhelming response to this issue. It resonated with numerous people, especially women. Many of us are starting our own businesses in addition to our 9-5 job, and building that entrepreneur life for ourselves. It’s easy to think you can do it all, all the time. I’m going to discuss how to identify, reverse, and prevent burnout in your career. Now, this doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong. It doesn’t mean you are in a toxic environment. Burnout just happens, and we may not always realize it. If you think you are burned out and want to do something about it, take a listen to episode 40!  Episode 39: Why Being Underpaid is Costing You More Than Just Money | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:36

In this episode, I get to interview a very special guest! I’ve known Mr. Nemo Ashong for close to two years, who is the founder of Empjoyment. He talks about his mission to have a truly inclusive and empowered world, and how we can value ourselves and know our full self-worth. All of us are priceless, but we live in a world where things cost money and we need to afford that lifestyle. We should be pushing to get top dollar to where we are. But first, we need to be able to demonstrate our value, and own who we are. I’m talking to a lot of women who are working to get the salaries they deserve, but there are systems at play where they don’t get paid at the same levels as men. A woman only makes 80 cents for every dollar that a man makes. For a black woman, they make even less. We discuss how you can start creating a space where you can speak freely, and open more doors. If you know you are worth more and you want your salary to grow, episode 39 is a must listen! P.S. If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate and review on iTunes.

Episode 38: Real Life Linkedin Strategies for Black Women in Corporate America | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:37

In this episode, I sit down with a very exciting guest! Meet Aithyni, owner of The Career Design Lab, and working during the day as a diversity and inclusion manager. She talks with us about her journey, and how LinkedIn helped transition her to a new and amazing career. LinkedIn is a place with no judgment, a space for starting open genuine discussions with like-minded people. Even if you aren’t job searching right now, it’s still important to find those connections. There are also many unique challenges women face in the workplace, no matter what your skin type. Many of us face unconscious bias, myself included. We dig deeper into how LinkedIn can help you leverage, and battle that bias. If you want to own your career and find the right people that will navigate the way to your goals and dreams, episode 38 is a must listen! P.S.  Episode 37: Navigating a Career Change When You're Over 40 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:30:49

Today’s episode is a little different from the topics I normally discuss, specifically focusing on one demographic within corporate America. I want to laser my focus on this and talk about women who are over 40 or approaching 40, and navigating a career change. I’m getting a lot of women reaching out and asking questions about this. As you get older in the workplace, things can become more difficult. Being over 40 in corporate America isn’t easy. People start to make incorrect assumptions. They think about all the stereotypes and stigmas that come with you being older. How can you navigate through that and move forward? I’m going to break this down for you even more, and go through some strategies and tips you can use if you are in this age range trying to level up in your career. Even if you aren’t 40, or you know you will be in this demographic at some point, then episode 37 is just for you!

Episode 36 - How to Budget Your Current Coins as You Work Toward Increasing Your Income | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:11

Hey Career Girl Nation! In this episode I sit down with Jamila Souffrant, a money coach and creator of the blog Journey To Launch and we discuss some ideas of how you can expand your earning potential and keep as many coins as possible. Many of us don’t realize the importance of budgeting. We don’t track what we spend, or how much we spend on items like groceries or transportation. You can be making a lot of money and still be broke, living paycheck to paycheck. But there are ways to use the tools and the money you have to make even more! Each of us has a customized journey when it comes to money and finances. It’s really important to start thinking about what your goals are, and making sure your actions are lining up with those goals. If you want to reach your financial goals and learn valuable tips on budgeting, episode 36 is a must listen!

Episode 35: 4 Steps You MUST Take To Get Recruiters Beating Down Your Door | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:26:38

Today’s episode is all about tapping into that hidden job market so recruiters will come knocking at your door. On a weekly basis, I have several recruiters from top notch companies reaching out to me. In three weeks one of my clients already had three competing job offers. You want recruiters beating down your doors begging for an interview, not the other way around. I use the same strategies in my business. I’m going to break down these strategies even more for you, starting with the power of LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the most impactful tool you can use for your networking, job search, and connecting with other recruiters and peers. If you want to get noticed and have all the opportunities come to you, take a listen to episode 35!

Episode 34: 5 Salary Limiting Mistakes Top Performers Make On Their Resume | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:24:12

I’ve been getting a ton of questions about resumes coming in recently. I did a Facebook live video about this topic over in my Career Success Circle group, and it was so well received that I wanted to reformat it to share with you guys. I want to spend some time breaking down my top tips to make sure that your resume reflects just how amazing you are.   I’ve talked to a lot of women who are top performers, but aren’t getting the job offers and interviews they want because there’s a disconnect with their resumes. The resumes don’t reflect how much value they bring to the table If you’re on the job hunt and not hearing back even though you know you are qualified, or if you’re about to start job searching, episode 34 is a must listen!

Episode 32: How to Play the Game at Work: Navigating Office Politics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:59

Hey Career Girl Nation! I want to talk to you about "playing the game" at work. This topic came up after a member of my Career Success Circle community asked about navigating office politics. I hear from a lot of women in corporate America that they're not interested in playing the game, and I think that's because they believe it to be negative. When most people hear the term "playing the game", they think of it with a negative connotation. They think it means you have to be cutthroat and shady. But that's not the case! In today's episode, I'm breaking down exactly what it means to play the game, and the five strategies you need to successfully navigate it. If you don't know how to play the game, or don't know where to start, episode 32 is for you!

Episode 33: #SquadGoals: The Importance of Networking Across in Your Career | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:24:42

Hey Career Girl Nation!  Today I’m coming at you with another episode about networking. I want to talk about the importance of networking across. This is something that is often overlooked when it comes to networking. People are quick to network up--looking to people who are above them in their careers. But I want to talk about why you should be networking across. This episode is inspired by an interview that Issa Rae did. In this interview, she talked about networking with people on the same level as her. People who were ‘in the trenches’ at the same time, and how that helped elevate her career. This is networking across! In today’s episode, I’m talking about how you can strategically place yourself around people who are on the same level as you, and how to make this an important part of your networking plan. If you’re ready to get serious about networking, then you don’t want to miss episode 33!
