Today’s Scripture: 23 One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. 24 But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” 25 Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 26 He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” 27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!” Pray Every Day is now an APP! Today’s Scripture: 18 Once when John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, some people came to Jesus and asked, “Why don’t your disciples fast like John’s disciples and the Pharisees do?” 19 Jesus replied, “Do wedding guests fast while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. They can’t fast while the groom is with them. 20 But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. 21 “Besides, who would patch old clothing with new cloth? For the new patch would shrink and rip away from the old cloth, leaving an even bigger tear than before. 22 “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins.” Pray Every Day is now an APP!  Mark 2:13-17 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:43

Today’s Scripture: 13 Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him. 15 Later, Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.) 16 But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees[a] saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such scum?[b]” 17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Pray Every Day is now an APP! Access Pray Every Day every single day on this new app!  Mark 2:1-12 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:55

Today’s Scripture: When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” 6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” 8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? 10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man[a] has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!” Pray Every Day is now an APP! Access Pray Every Day every single day on this new app!  Mark 1:40-45 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:27

Today’s Scripture: 40 A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said. 41 Moved with compassion,[a] Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” 42 Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed. 43 Then Jesus sent him on his way with a stern warning: 44 “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy.[b] This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.” 45 But the man went and spread the word, proclaiming to everyone what had happened. As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but people from everywhere kept coming to him.  Mark 1:35-39 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:30

Today’s Scripture: 35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. 36 Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37 When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 But Jesus replied, “We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too. That is why I came.” 39 So he traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and casting out demons. Pray Every Day is now an APP!  Mark 1:29-34 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:54

Today’s Scripture: 29 After Jesus left the synagogue with James and John, they went to Simon and Andrew’s home. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away. 31 So he went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for them. 32 That evening after sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. 33 The whole town gathered at the door to watch. 34 So Jesus healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and he cast out many demons. But because the demons knew who he was, he did not allow them to speak. Pray Every Day is now an APP! Access Pray Every Day every single day on this new app!  Mark 1:21-28 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:55

Today’s Scripture: 21 Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike the teachers of religious law. 23 Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil[a] spirit cried out, 24 “Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. 26 At that, the evil spirit screamed, threw the man into a convulsion, and then came out of him. 27 Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. “What sort of new teaching is this?” they asked excitedly. “It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!” 28 The news about Jesus spread quickly throughout the entire region of Galilee. Pray Every Day is now an APP!  Isaiah 61:1-11 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:02

Today’s Scripture: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,     for the Lord has anointed me     to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted     and to proclaim that captives will be released     and prisoners will be freed.[a] 2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn     that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,[b]     and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. 3 To all who mourn in Israel,[c]     he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning,     festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks     that the Lord has planted for his own glory. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins,     repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them,     though they have been deserted for many generations. 5 Foreigners will be your servants.     They will feed your flocks and plow your fields     and tend your vineyards. 6 You will be called priests of the Lord,     ministers of our God. You will feed on the treasures of the nations     and boast in their riches. 7 Instead of shame and dishonor,     you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land,     and everlasting joy will be yours. 8 “For I, the Lord, love justice.     I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering     and make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their descendants will be recognized     and honored among the nations. Everyone will realize that they are a people     the Lord has blessed.” 10 I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!     For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation     and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding     or a bride with her jewels. 11 The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world.     Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring,     with plants springing up everywhere. Pray Every Day is now an APP! Access Pray Every Day every single day on this new app!  Mark 1:16-20 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:34

Today’s Scripture: 16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon[a] and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 19 A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. 20 He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.  Mark 1:9-15 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:37

Today’s Scripture: 9 One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. 10 As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him[a] like a dove. 11 And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” 12 The Spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness, 13 where he was tempted by Satan for forty days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him. 14 Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God’s Good News.[b] 15 “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” Pray Every Day is now an APP! Access Pray Every Day every single day on this new app!  Mark 1:1-8 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:11

Today’s Scripture: This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.[a] It began 2 just as the prophet Isaiah had written: “Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,     and he will prepare your way.[b] 3 He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!     Clear the road for him!’[c]” 4 This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. 5 All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. 6 His clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 John announced: “Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals. 8 I baptize you with[d] water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!” Pray Every Day is now an APP!  Psalm 84 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:49

Today’s Scripture: For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument.[a] 1 How lovely is your dwelling place,     O Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 2 I long, yes, I faint with longing     to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul,     I will shout joyfully to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home,     and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar,     O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God! 4 What joy for those who can live in your house,     always singing your praises. Interlude 5 What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord,     who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. 6 When they walk through the Valley of Weeping,[b]     it will become a place of refreshing springs.     The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. 7 They will continue to grow stronger,     and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.[c] 8 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer.     Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude 9 O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield!     Show favor to the one you have anointed. 10 A single day in your courts     is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God     than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. 11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.     He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing     from those who do what is right. 12 O Lord of Heaven’s Armies,     what joy for those who trust in you. Pray Every Day is now an APP!  Psalm 34:1-22 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:19

Today’s Scripture: I will praise the Lord at all times.     I will constantly speak his praises. 2 I will boast only in the Lord;     let all who are helpless take heart. 3 Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness;     let us exalt his name together. 4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.     He freed me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;     no shadow of shame will darken their faces. 6 In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened;     he saved me from all my troubles. 7 For the angel of the Lord is a guard;     he surrounds and defends all who fear him. 8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.     Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! 9 Fear the Lord, you his godly people,     for those who fear him will have all they need. 10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,     but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. 11 Come, my children, and listen to me,     and I will teach you to fear the Lord. 12 Does anyone want to live a life     that is long and prosperous? 13 Then keep your tongue from speaking evil     and your lips from telling lies! 14 Turn away from evil and do good.     Search for peace, and work to maintain it. 15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right;     his ears are open to their cries for help. 16 But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil;     he will erase their memory from the earth. 17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.     He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;     he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles,     but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. 20 For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous;     not one of them is broken! 21 Calamity will surely destroy the wicked,     and those who hate the righteous will be punished. 22 But the Lord will redeem those who serve him.     No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Collect all four for a year’s worth of reflection! Subscribe: Join the Movement: Support Pray Every Day in a tangible way! Click here to become a patron of the show. If you support the show at $10 or more per month, you’ll receive free original artwork AND your name on Pray Every Day’s brick wall (below). The wall is posted on every single show post DAILY. Woohoo! Here are our current $10 or more sponsors who believe in bringing Pray Every Day to the nations! A Request: Please rate the podcast and write a quick 1-2 sentence review here. Why?
