How to Spot a Fake Funko Pop! * Where / Who Are you purchasing from: * Is the Seller in China on eBay? – If so RUN! * Does the person have reputable feedbacks in the groups / site you are buying from? – Always use reviews, feedback, customer reviews, the Better Business Bureau, and friends experiences to verify an individual or business. * Look at the Images: * Avoid Stock Photos * If not listed, request images of all sides of the box. This not only validates condition but helps with authenticity. * Verify item number on the bottom of the box * Ensure the Pop matches the artwork on the box. * Look at the fonts on the box, fakes often have different fonts on the UPC codes, and other wording on the bottom of the box * Ask for images of the figures feet and look for: * An item number stamped on them * Funko LLC and Made in X (This is not always the case but most have these markings) * Newer models will match the number on the bottom of the box * Unfinished paint could indicate a fake but remember older Pop! didn’t have the greatest paint jobs * Always remember when In doubt phone a friend. * Use Facebook groups, attach images and ask a crowd. In most cases, someone will own the Pop! you are inquiring about and assist. * If you know a friend who as the pop ask them to send you photos * Use Reddit or the Funko Funatic boards. Tons of collectors are always willing to assist.

Collection Use Small Groups to Build a Better Community Smaller groups are great especially if you have active Admin. You should really think about joining the PCA group if you haven’t already! (Hint) (Hint) Leverage Larger Groups to Obtain Harder to Find Pop! There is just more to choose from sometimes in larger groups especially if they are spread across a larger area. Use these groups to find deals and trusted people to get some harder to find items. Validate a Group’s Reputation Make sure any group you decide to join has at a minimum these qualities: * Active Admin * Pinned Posts for Rules * A Rating / Review System for Buyers and Sellers * A Group of Collectors that aren’t just Trolling Everyone or Making a Toxic Environment * Collectors Helping Collectors Local Pickup vs Shipment If at all possible try and find as many items local as possible. I know SDCC is about 2 months away but with all the talks and hints of SDCC pops…. It seems like the perfect time to have this discussion. Most people think, If I don’t get tickets to SDCC or Fundays what is there really left for me to get. Well I’m here to tell you there are tons of Pop Related things to do outside of the convention hall!!! First let’s talk about the Funko Lottery at SDCC * If you were lucky enough to get passes into SDCC CONGRATS now the wait is….. well not over…… because you will be waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting to get hopefully win the lottery with a time. * Funko has line that is marked just outside of Hall H at SDCC and yes people were waiting 24 hours almost every day to get in there. * This does not! I repeat does not get you a spot in the Funko Booth Line only the opportunity to be entered in the Funko Lottery. * A ton of people stop at this point and say wait….. We have to wait in a line to see if we can wait in a line that also poses the risk of not getting super exclusive items especially if they are sold out. Sadly the answer is yes. * Funko set’s up a live lottery at SDCC this forces you to wait in line as they call people up to enter and see if they were selected for that specific day. * If not selected they tell you to move on…… * If selected HOORAY you get assigned a time to get Pop! * Once in the line depending on what time of the day your assignment is you fill out the form they provide you for the times you want, approach the booth and hand it over to the sales person and they give you everything you asked for. * NOTE: Check for damage there just like you would anywhere else, if there is damage tell them you would like to exchange the pop. * Beware of resellers, flippers and collectors willing to benefit off of others in line that may not be purchasing everything to get extra items to sell.
