Those Weekend Golf Guys show

Those Weekend Golf Guys

Summary: Take the #1 golf instructor in the state of Indiana (Jeff Smith (http://jeffsmithgolfinstruction.com) ) and pair him with an outstanding radio personality and you have the formula for one helluva Golf Talk Radio Show. John Ashton (the show host) has enjoyed success as a morning personality on radio stations from Bangor, Maine to Dallas, Texas. He’s also embarrassed himself on many golf courses in the same locations. John is a hacker, struggling to break 80 (OK, 90) but has a passion and enjoyment of the game, a skewed sense of humor and an outlook that makes this the most entertaining Golf Show around. Jeff Smith, PGA  enjoys the innate ability to create word pictures so, even on the radio, his tips and techniques to improve your game are clear, easy to follow and help listeners cut strokes on their very next round.

Our guests this week are phenomenal. An embarrassment of riches. First, Elisa Gaudet, the brains (and the beauty) behind Women's Golf Day which is this coming June 4th. And then we introduce you to Cam Rogers, host of the BLeave In Tiger Woods podcast. So we talk about Tiger, about how to get more women playing golf and Jeff even hypothesizes that the Kentucky Derby DQ decision was done by the rules officials from the USGA. Another fun, funny and entertaining hour of golf talk radio.

S1 Ep16: Misconceptions That Are Ruining Your Game | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2879

How many times have you been told to "keep your head down"? Too many! Because it's bad advice and just plain wrong. Keep your left arm straight? Same deal. Maybe you're playing badly because you are following erroneous advice! We fix that this week. Or, maybe you're playing badly because you are playing the wrong ball. How to pick the golf ball that is perfect for you. Listen this week and you will know.

S1 Ep15: How To Keep Your Favorite Course Thriving | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2940

It costs a lot to keep a golf course operating. Too many of us complain about high greens fees and insist on deals that will eventually cause our favorite courses to close. Here are some things we should all be doing to keep our favorite courses open.

 S1 Ep14: Its Masters Weekend | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2759

A couple of great interviews for Masters Weekend. First, Bobby Jones IV: the grandson of THE Bobby Jones talks to us about Augusta National, his grandfather's legacy and Colver whiskey and it all makes sense when you listen. We also talk to Fiamma Felitch, a female golf champion in high school and college and a former LPGA Tour member talks about women's' golf, living out of a suitcase, and PXG golf clubs.

 S1 Ep13: Golf Stories | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2939

Golf Stories funny and true! How can you lose a ball before the round starts? Here's a suggestion: throw the clubs in the trunk, fill up the tank, drive till you hit empty then find the nearest golf course and play. You can find great golf venues everywhere in this country. The USGA has turned the fairway into a hazard. Sandbagging and other things to avoid. On-course encounters with wildlife.

 S1 Ep12: Peripheral Items | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2877

We know it takes a lot of balls to play golf the way most of us do. But it also takes many more acoutraments like tees. bags, green repair tools and gloves. We talk about those and talk to the man who can get you the bast golf glove you've ever worn, cheap!

 S1 Ep11: Knocking The Rust Off | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2818

Its been a while since we've actually been out on a golf course. But now that Spring has sprung, many of us actually have a chance to play for real. OK, temper your expectations and realize you may have to relearn some of the things you mastered last season. Jeff and John explain some early season techniques like when to over club, why it's important to hit a bucket before EVERY round and some other things you may never have thought of on your own. Hey, that's what we're here for!

 S1 Ep10: Its The Simple Things | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2940

It goes without saying. But we're gonna say it anyway! Jeff exlplains how the simple things, the things we tend to take for granted, are often the things that are complicating our ability to play this game well. For instance, something as simple as the grip can dictate the length and direction of any shot. If your grip is off, the shot will not go where you're intending. On the other hand, subtle changes to your grip can help in shot shaping and playing like you really know what you're doing!

 S1 Ep9: Practice Hacks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2879

Or, how this rope can improve your golf game for mere pennies! Jeff lays out a series of ideas that will allow you to perfect certain aspects of your game using cheap items you can usually find around your house already.  This rope, for example, can improve your swing speed. A simple yardstick can help you finally figure out how to align your putter head properly. And there are a lot more idea like that this week. Listen close!

 S1 Ep8: Practice With Purpose | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2757

Didn't mean to sound all serious and stuff (c'mon, you know us better than that) but Jeff does make some great points on this week's show about practicing. You know how you get to the driving range and you work on a few things you're having a bit a trouble with and you think you've got it all figured out then you hit the course and everything just goes to hell in a handbasket? Yeah, that happens to us all the time. Well here's what Jeff thinks can help us all through those frustrating times. Practice on the course. You don't always have to play for score just because you paid the greens fees, right? If you're having problems with your wedges, hit a few different balls when you get up around the green. If it's long irons giving you trouble, hit more than one. If you want to work on getting out of the trees after your drive (now how many strokes would it save me if I could learn how to do that correctly???) put a few balls down inside the tree line and work on the right shots to get out. All you need to do is keep up with the group ahead. Don't hold up anyone and no one will even realize what you're doing. Well, your friends will realize what you've done the next time they play with you and your typical troublesome shots are hit crisp and clean!

 S1 Ep7: Practice Indoors And Don't Break A Lamp | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2819

Jeff shares some fool-proof techniques on indoor practice so you don't have to start from scratch when the golf season finally arrives. Hint: buy some ping pong balls. These work like golf balls but don't break anything! Also, Bill VanArsdale has invented a game called Tin Cup. It's fun for the whole family, can be played indoors, and helps hone your pitching and chipping skills.

 S1 Ep6: Ledbetter Revisited | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3110

One of the best of shows from 2015\. David Ledbetter joins us to talk about the swing he teaches amateurs. Also, Dr. Gary Sales, a sports psychologist from Indiana University joins us with some great advice and funny stories about golfers. This is just another reason why you should never miss an episode.  S1 Ep5: Another Stooopid Rule To Ignore | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3058

A rule so stupid we need to spell it with 3 o's. The trials of owning a golf course, or why your favorite course may be closing. Some fun ideas on how to get ready for the coming golf season while staying indoors and confortable!

The PGA Show is over for another year. Jeff reviews some of the best new products. Jeff finally has found the new driver you need to have and the best putter ever made. Plus a lot of other stuff you're going to want to have before hitting the course this season.
