NALC was founded in 1889 for the mutual benefit of letter carriers, and one of those mutual benefits is the insurance and savings plans offered by the U.S. Letter Carriers Mutual Benefit Association (MBA).

The leaders of NALC and USPS formally opened negotiations for a new collective-bargaining agreement on Feb. 19.
