EP: 053 – One year of The Modern Recordist (Part 2) – Overcome your challenges, coming up as a songwriter, and life as a modern recordist with Paul Sikes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Friends and Modern Recordists! This completes one full and killer year of The Modern Recordist podcast. I, your humble host Jon Stinson, am so incredibly grateful to all of you who joined me in this first year of my journey into podcasting, became dedicated listeners, shared the message of The Modern Recordist around, and encouraged me all along the way. It's been an incredibly empowering journey, and as I type this, I have a great sense of personal accomplishment, and pride in this tribe. This podcast has become a very important and meaningful project to me on many levels, and you play a big part in that. Throughout the first year of The Modern Recordist, I received emails and Facebook messages, and some of you even stopped me on the street to tell me that you've been enjoying the show, and getting a lot out of it. I can't express how encouraging and rewarding that is to me. It's been a crazy journey of learning in public, overcoming my own Impostor Syndrome, and pushing through challenges when I didn't think I'd be able to get the show out without missing a week (and I almost did here at the end a couple times, haha!). Thank you for allowing me the platform to share my passions with you, learn with you, and for caring about all of this. Wow, it's been fun! And we're not gonna let up! I'm looking forward to an even bigger second year of the show. Let's keep on recording! Here's to more :-) The last three weeks have been back-to-back episodes of the Producer's Notes - the solo episodes where there's no guest. This week is kind of a hybrid episode, where I spend the first few minutes hangin solo, and then we bring on a guest. And this particular guest has special significance to The Modern Recordist, and special significance to our little "one year of podcasting" celebration. We brought back on songwriter, artist, and producer Paul Sikes, who was our inagural guest that helped us launch The Modern Recordist. On this episode, I spend the first few minutes reflecting more on what I've learned in the first year of podcasting, and share some thoughts on overcoming challenges. One of the key ways to overcome any challenge is to keep your resistance at bay-that part of your mind that seeks to self-sabotage. "The Resistance" is something Steven Pressfield talks about in his book "The War Of Art" which happened to be the most recommended book in the first year of this podcast. I don't have anything to do with "The War Of Art" and I don't know Steven Pressfield (hopefully one day I'll have him on the show). I'm just a big fan of this book, and the breakthrough I experienced in mindset by reading it. If you have not yet read "The War Of Art" go ahead and grab it right now. I would be so grateful if you would use my Amazon affiliate link to purchase the book, as that would directly support this podcast, while also equipping you with a powerful and inexpensive songwriting and creativity tool. Win. Win. Win. Click or tap here to purchase "The War Of Art" on Amazon (affiliate link) In the second part of the show, I bring on guest Paul Sikes, and we talk about life as a modern recordist, coming up as a songwriter, reflecting on our individual growth over the last year, what it's taken to realize our successes, and so much more. Click or tap play and listen now! Also, make sure you follow up and connect with Paul Sikes around the internet: http://paulsikes.com Paul Sikes on iTunes Paul Sikes on Facebook Instagram: @paul_sikes Twitter: @paulsikes We're going to be taking just a little time off ...

EP: 048 – Answering some mix questions – The Producer’s Notes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Wondering where The Modern Recordist has been this week? Whelp, host Jon Stinson had the flu... But! Although we bring you this new episode of The Modern Recordist waaay later than usual, we are STILL committed to releasing a new episode every week throughout the first year of the podcast. This week, Jon answers some recent questions he's gotten about mixing - specifically, how to properly use pan, and managing the low end in your mixes. Also, for the next couple weeks, we're going to be moving to a Thursday release schedule. We had been playing around with the idea of putting out episodes on a different day, and with the massive delay this week, we figured now is as good as time as any. +--+--+--+--+--+ The Modern Recordist is the podcast devoted to the exploration and continual discussion around designing and living your life as an artistic visionary.
